Sigtuna is a picturesque lakeside town steeped in Swedish history. Founded in the late 10th century, it’s the oldest town in Sweden and still retains much of its medieval charm. During the Christmas season it becomes an even more magical place, as holiday markets pop up all over the city, selling local handicrafts and fragrant goodies. Paddle along Lake Mälaren, marvel at church ruins and runic stones or just explore the shops of the charming main street.

Visit the pretty 17th-century chateau of Wenngarn, it hosts one of the best preserved Baroque interiors in Northern Europe. It was home to Magnus Gabriel De La Gardie as his summer castle, one of 16th C welthiest men. Have lunch in the old vaults. Visit the village of Viby, uniquely preserved. One of few showing how Sweden's villages looked in the 18th-century. Its cultural value is now protected.

Skokloster Castle is Swedens´ most important monument from the Swedish Age of Greatness when Sweden was one of the most powerful countries in Europe. It was built between 1654-1676 for the noble Swedish statesman and military commander Carl Gustaf Wrangel. It is a world class attraction from the Baroque era with some 50 000 objects in the collections. Sigtuna is often mentioned as the oldest city in Sweden with a city plan that goes back at least 1 000 years. You will feel the historic atmosphere when we walk along the main street (Stora Gatan). We will among other things see the old Town Hall on the Town Square, medieval church ruins, Saint Mary´s Church from 1247 and some genuine rune stones. We will walk on the waterfront promenade along lake Mälaren and there will be some time to eat lunch and to do some individual shopping and strolling in the old city center.

Linnaeus studied the different kinds of plants, and what it is used for. He also named each plant so others will know how to take care and use the plant for what it's purpose is for being there. It is walking distance to my Uncles house.

Inaugurated in 1435, Gothic re-styled in the 19th century, it is a must see/do in Uppsala.Gamla (Old) Uppsala, just north of the city, boasts impressive 6th century burial mounds and in its museum you can learn about the legend of the Svea kings and gory human sacrifices.
