The castle that watches over the Brkini Hills and the Reka Valley was built in the 12th century. A compact two-story grat hall has a Romanesque nucleus and a smaller yard protected by a wall and a round tower. The inner yard was decorated with Renaissance arcades. A walking trail and a couple of bike trails lead past this exceptional site.

Claustra Alpium Iuliarum is a Late Roman barrier system, which guarded the crossings to Italy between the 3rd and 5th centuries. Ajdovski zid (“Ajdovski wall”) above Vrhnika is the longest known section of the Late Roman claustra Alpium Iuliarum barrier system. It measures over 6,700 m in length and has at least 35 barrier towers. The ancient Vrhnika (Nauportus) was enclosed underneath it.

Very nice path through the woods with impressing remains of the Late Roman defence system Claustra Alpium Iuliarum. Interesting information boards, special attractions in form of wooden sculptures of Roman soldiers and an astonishing view through the "archaeostereoscope" (binocular where you see the 3D reconstruction of the barrier wall)!
