Located in beautiful Herefordshire countryside the Small Breeds Farm is a perfect place to spend the day. Brilliant for adults and families, there is a great selection of wonderful animals. The centre has a fantastic owl collection which is well laid out with informative signs. The rest of the animals are spread out throughout the farm, there are sheep, goats, llamas, pygmy goats, various other birds, donkeys, pigs, rabbits, chipmunks and a lovely water area with some giant tortoises nearby. It's a lovely relaxing place to enjoy the day particularly if the weather is good. You can feed some of the animals and get up close and personal. Many are free to roam around and are happy to interact with you. There is a cafe on site and a picnic area, so you can bring your own food or buy some home-made delights instead. Brilliant Covid measures are in place and there is a one way system through the park. Staff are really welcoming and helpful. Great value for money and lots of fun too.

Brook House Woods

Reviewed By SophieRowe524 - Elland, United Kingdom

We’ve (begrudgingly) just returned home from the most wonderful break at Brook House Woods, and to say we enjoyed it is a huge understatement. My boyfriend and I stayed in the Yurt for three nights, and the feeling of solitude you get from the surroundings, and accommodation itself, made it feel like much more. The accommodation was beautiful, with an incredibly comfy bed and the most gorgeous bedding - it was the best nights sleep we’ve had in ages! The outdoor woodland kitchen is truly beautiful, and the food we ordered ahead (a cake, breakfast, pizza dough and some local beers) was fantastic! We cooked the pizzas in the outdoor pizza oven and the little gas stove was perfect for everything else. The bathroom was quite a surprise! Totally private right next door to the yurt, beautifully clean and much larger than expected. The Yurt also has a private decked area with fire pit which we spent most early mornings and evenings sat out on. If you’re looking for a ‘get away from it all’ weekend, I truly can’t recommend this place enough. We didn’t venture far as the local area was so lovely, and spent our days walking to the local pub, drinking craft cider at the on site cidery ‘Little Pomona’, watching a film in the private outdoor cinema, and taking park in a wood work workshop (also handily on site). We can’t wait to come back!

The Weir Garden

With the sun shining this is a place well worth visiting. With two main paths through the gardens the upper path is through woods and passes the toilets and tea tent before dropping down to the River Wye and a natural play area (so good for kids). The lower path comes back down the side of the river, often with canoes passing by. There are many places to just sit quietly and enjoy the view of the river. There is also good signage explaining the varieties of trees. Outside the entrance and across some grassland, with picnic tables, is the walled garden which has been fully restored since 2009.

The gardens will reopen for weekends only from 7 March 2020, then daily from 28 March to 1 November 2020, from 11.30 to 5p.m. Plant sales, gift shop and tea room.

Having read about the gardens in this months RHS magazine we decided to visit with our dogs. The gardens have been lovingly planted with autumn colour in mind with the most amazing collection of trees including Maples, Connifers, Beech, Cornus and hydrangeas - just lovely. Seats thoughtfully placed in sheltered viewpoints to sit and relax in the sunshine. Dog friendly. Very clean toilet facilities and well stocked plant shop - we shall return in the spring.

Biblins Youth Campsite

The Biblins Campsite provides a unique opportunity for children, young people and community groups to camp and engage with nature, with many schools using the site as a stopover site on Duke of Edinburgh expeditions and other groups staying on site whilst engaging in hiking, canoeing and environmental education. It can also be used by larger groups – with 13 pitches holding between 25 and 70 campers per pitch, along with up to 19 under cover in the Burrow – and facilities are being developed to allow groups who don’t have their own equipment to camp.

This campsite is in an idyllic setting beside the Wye. We have often walked past the site on the footpath which runs through it but only this year have we been able to camp as the site normally takes groups and not families. The pandemic has changed that this year and the staff have taken carfe to ensuire that campers are safe. Tents were pitched a good 50m from each other and each pitch had its own dedicated shower and toilet which other campers were not supposed to use. The shower block was clean and the showers were hot. Would not hesitate to stay here again should the opportunity arise. Falling asleep to the sound of the Wye and buzzards is not to be missed!

Bodenham Lake Nature Reserve

Reviewed By itschris0 - Ludlow, United Kingdom

We have been meaning to take a walk here for ages, and this morning we did and it was a peaceful place to spend and hour or two walking the two paths (you can only walk part way around the lake on both sides) The paths are partly hard surfaces and grass, obviously at this time of year it’s a little muddy, so wellingtons or walking boots are advisable Only a few other people were there so it was very quiet There is plenty of free parking, and it’s worth noting there are know toilets on site
