Things to do in Franschhoek, Western Cape: The Best Cultural Tours

October 9, 2021 Weston Hennigan

The village of Franschhoek (French Corner), tucked into the Cape Winelands of South Africa, is known as the country's food and wine capital. Galleries and antique shops fill the tree-lined streets, and vineyards established more than 300 years ago cascade over the hills just outside town. Local activities range from wine-tasting tours to trout fishing and hiking. The Huguenot Memorial Museum honors the town's early settlers, who fled religious persecution in France.

Cape Town Trike Tours for the most exciting and novel way to see the beautiful Cape Peninsula (in my opinion). From collection to drop off( 9am to 5pm) we had the most memorable experience. Willem is a very knowledgeable guide and safe driver. We discovered a few firsts, which we had never explored before. Along the Atlantic Seaboard we could take a longer look at the exquisite seafront properties which are built on the steep slopes of Table Mountain. The curving Chapmans Peak drive (with 114 curves, Willem did admit he had not 'yet' counted them) by trike is just something one has to experience as is the long downward ride into Hout Bay. We enjoyed the smells of the ocean, the tree lined roads and the fynbos. If you are looking for something different, safe and exhilarating to do we can only recommend Cape Town Trike Tours. We previously booked the full day Hermanus and Whale Route tour as with this tour we were left with wonderful long lasting memories. Thank you Willem

Angelo took me and my husband on a private Cape Town day tour. It was such an amazing trip and we fell in love with South Africa instantly. Angelo was very professional and was just so pleasant and chill throughout our tour. He was very knowledgeable and we were so grateful to have him as our guide. Even though we were on a time constraint (we only had one full day in Cape Town), Angelo was still able to show us a bit of everything, fully utilizing his expertise of the area. This tour is so worth it, and we will definitely be heading back and asking for Angelo again!

We were a group of family of 6 and enjoyed every second. The driver was very informative. Our first stop was LilyPatrick, which is a new brewery and it was unforgettable. In our group was a few anti beer and brqndy drinkers, but they partook every time and it was hilarious.

Given the current COVID-19 concerns, a private tour was just what my partner and I needed. We had an absolutely amazing time with our tour guide Armando! He was incredibly knowledgable about the sites we visited on our tour as well as entertaining, making for an all around great day touring the cape. Our pick up was timely as well. Armando also allowed for reasonable breaks in between tour sites so we can really enjoy the spots we visited. Anyone interested in a comfortable and fun tour should certainly book with these guys they are great!

This Garden Route tour for 16 of us in two minibuses was just excellent. Our drivers/tour managers were the very knowledgeable Kevin and Wayne where nothing was too much trouble and the driving very good. The itinerary for each of the days was super and although the Days 1 and 4 were long driving they were broken up with stops. The hotels were fine with the Blackwaters River Lodge the stand out, brilliant setting, rooms, services and food, we even saw a snake (rare apparently) slither across the car park. At the Botlierskop Safari Lodge an amazing breakfast followed by a safari drive in a large 4x4 (necessary) to seat us all over some of the roughest and steepest terrain ever. What a day only the lions didn't come out to play but never mind. Would I go again - in an instant I would.

Amazing tour!! Lele and the Langa tour guide were awesome! Very informative, helpful, insightful, and willing to go over and beyond to ensure their clients experience the ultimate tour. We were very fortunate and blessed to travel to Robben Island and get a once in a lifetime experience, and get the opportunity first hand to listen to inspiring and informative insights from the tour guides on the conditions and unfortunate circumstances political prisoners endured while incarcerated there. It is a most tour if you are in Cape Town, but understand the weather conditions dictate whether or not the boat leaves the docking area in order to travel to Robben Island, and not fault of the travel company. Even though it is understanding the customers may feel disappointed in not being able to visit Robben Island. Nevertheless, it blessing to be able to experience the Robben Island and Township tour and learned about apartheid history and the effects it had on the people in South Africa, and the continue social, psychological, and financial economic problems they continue to deal with this very moment. True story of South Africa from the people who live there, but still seeing the inspiring stories of fighting for freedom and social equality and economic prosperity.

My boyfriend and I did all our tours with Nic from Africa Moja Tours & Transfers-Cradle of Human Kind, Lesedi, Soweto, and Pretoria. We were very nervous booking tours as it was all last minute and we did not have a lot of time to research. However, our first day went so great with Nic that we booked another day. He is a very safe driver, incredibly knowledgeable and smart, and a great person to hang out with while touring the area. Nic and the tours were truly one of the highlights of our three week trip in South Africa and I would highly recommend using this company and Nic for your tours. I am so grateful we had an incredible experience on our first time visiting.

10. Winelands tour

Down South Safaris

South Africas Winelands are actually the worlds longest continuous wine growing region. Let our professional and passionate guides really make it effortless to pair our wines to the your viticultural desires on the day. With over 3000 wineries its challenging to select a handful to go tasting, but as a starter in we recommend stopping at Meerlust, Glen Carlou, Haute Cabrier, Fairview Babylonstoren, Mullineaux et Leeu, Backsberg, Muratie, Glenwood Waterford DMZ & Vergelegen. This is not practical. So please discuss in advance. Ultimately I offer an in-depth experience, tailored to your tastes A Kosher tour is also available. Wineries may change subject to their hours and your desires and we can cater for children too. Lastly we have an exclusive opportunity to take a tour inside Nelson Mandela prison house at Victor Verstaadt prison. This is still an active prison unlike Robben Island and is a great substitute for when the ferry is cancelled. There is a donation to the Guard

Inclusions: All Fees and Taxes, Bottled water, WiFi on board

Exclusions: Lunch stop at one of several gorgeous restaurant booked in advance. Bable, Delaire Graaf, Haute Cabriere, Terroir, Overture, Camphors La petite Ferme, Foilage La Petite Culombe all A m a z i n g!, I have excluded the cost of the wine tastings visited because this is tailored to your tastes and ideals. There are a few hidden gems that I would normally pop into however this is customised
