Saunton Golf Club

Golf club offering two classic, championship links courses, the West and East, both of which are Par 71 and set in undulating dunes.

Reviewed By Hastoegraham - Tring, United Kingdom

Both of the courses are a real challenge. The East is the harder of the two but the West is really interesting with a great variety of holes. The greens are very good and there can be some wicked pin positions. We played the West on a damp day but the course drains well and there was little wind. The East was played on a bright windy day. It eas great to be out but the combination of wind and course design made it a least 6 shots harder. But both were a delight to play. The Clubhouse is very comfortable and the staff friendly. A wonderful pro shop. By the way the course guides on the website are very good with sound advice, but I would suggest buying a course planner for each course as there are some nuances that are not immediately obvious, particularly if a pin is placed in a tight corner of a green. Altogether great.

Royal Birkdale Golf Club

Reviewed By miffjames - Avalon Beach, Australia

There is always great discussion about which is the best of the three Royal courses on the English golf coast around Liverpool. For me it's a toss up between Birkdale and Hoylake. As an Aussie travelling to the UK late in 2019, I had the opportunity to play all three. Birkdale is a stand out from the unique clubhouse architecture through to the magnificent links course that you don't have to be Tiger Woods to enjoy and score well. Every hole is a gem. Couple this with some wonderful history and memorabilia scattered throughout the club house and a pro shop and house staff that treat you like a member, it is one of the great golfing bucket list experiences.

Woburn Golf Club is secluded but only 10 minutes from Junction 13 of the M1. It is the only 54 hole venue to have all 3 courses featured in Golf Monthly's Top 100 Courses in the UK & Ireland. Woburn recently hosted its 60th Professional Tournament, when the AIG Women's British Open, won by Hikano Shibuno, was played on the Marquess course. Woburn is ideal for corporate & society golf days and also offers mid week green fee packages for individual golfers & parties of all sizes.

As a new golf player (just over 1 year playing) I was already terrified playing at such a big course. But seeing the courses in all their glory was stunning. The golf club itself is exquisite and the food we were provided (corporate day) was some of the best I have tasted. We played the marquess course, one of three courses available. After playing on courses around the Yorkshire area and getting used to them, this was a different world. A real challenge for golfers and a must for anyone who has a passion for the sport. Despite flashes of rain it did not hinder the experience and it lived up to the hype. I would recommend visiting the club website where you can see every hole and get tips on what to do/not to do which will definitely help!

The whole team at Camberley Heath worked well to ensure the evening went smoothly. The room was lovely and festive, the food was delicious and everyone received their meals at the same time. The gluten free and vegan options were much appreciated! The waiting staff were unobtrusive and nothing was too much bother. We danced the night away and went home with sore feet....a sign of a good evening!

As always, the service was friendly and efficient. The Fish and Chips were great and the wine went well with the supper. Another very pleasant experience. It's a pity that there were too few members and friends there to enjoy a very pleasant occasion Frank Farmer
