Nahoon Beach

A delightful and picturesque place to visit and in sight of Nahoon Estuary Nature Reserve. We enjoyed a swim in the Mermaids Pool (which can only be seen at low tide since the water covers the rocks, marking the outline of the pool, a tight tide) and making the acquaintance of lots of small and colourful fish. There is plenty of free parking and also toilets nearby, at the Best Beach Cafe which is closed on Mondays!

The Venom Pit Snake Park

The Venom Pit is one of Africa's largest snake parks situated 10km's from East London. Home to Africa's most deadly snakes as well as the worlds rarest. Our facility boasts a clean, fresh approach to the husbandry and care of our animals. Our friendly & efficient staff are there to educate and entertain our visitors about these amazing, fear inciting animals through interactive snake demonstrations

Wow... that was most incredible! Maybe we were a little bit lucky to be the only visitors at the time, but the very friendly lady from the pay window spontaneously decided to show us around. She had lots of interesting information on the snakes and other animals, but the best was yet to come: during our round through the snake park she and her very nice collegue, the snake keeper, gave us the opportunity to touch, pet and hold many of the animals. So we had more the close encounters with a Boa Constrictor, Burmese Python, turtles, baby crocodiles, bull frog and more! We and our kids loved it! This will be a long lasting memory and we can only highly recommend this little jem!

East London Aquarium

East London aquarium may be underwhelming if you compare it with big city aquariums like Cape Town or Durban. But, I think that the team do a great job with minimal funds, and there's always something interesting to see in the indoor exhibits, which are well-kept and cared for. I have particularly enjoyed watching the baby turtles grow from the size of a palm to nearly a foot in width. My 18-month-old daughter, Maia, loves the aquarium and is completely enchanted every time we go. The highlight for both of us is the outdoor section with the fur seal and African penguin displays; and Dylan, who has to be one of the most enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and friendly staff members I have ever met, in any zoo or aquarium around the world. He always pays special attention to my daughter, even letting her pet a penguin whose name also happens to be Maia. His love for his job is evident, and infectious – people like Dylan are what this world needs if attitudes towards marine conservation are going to change. He is a real credit to East London Aquarium, and the reason we will keep coming back time and time again.
