Egans Bar Parkbridge

A hidden gem in Wicklow! A bar / pub with food located just off the Wicklow Way (20 minutes walk), Egans Bar, snug and grocery shop sits in a picturesque area in the South East of Wicklow, Ireland. The Egan name was added to the premises in 1912, the bar having been formerly owned by the Doyle family who held it in operation since well before the 1800’s, making it a contender for one of the oldest family run country pubs in the country.

We visited Egan's bar over the August bank holiday weekend. Larry and Mary were extremely welcoming and we had a great chat with them. They provided us with some in depth knowledge of the Wicklow area which really helped us with our touring and site seeing. We stayed there for a few hours and enjoyed some of the best Guinness I've ever had. The locals and regulars who call in to the pub were also very friendly and all were up for a chat which only added to the charm of the establishment. We noticed a lot of people were eating pizza and found out that they have a small pizza oven in the bar. They looked so nice that my girlfriend and I ordered one each and they really hit the spot. In a time where rural pubs are becoming scarce in Ireland it is tremendous to see Egan's Bar still provides a service that Irish pubs are famous for around the world. If you are anywhere nearby I would make it my business to drop by and have a pint, a pizza and a chat with Mary and Larry.
