Hungry? Good. Curious? Even better! Croatian cuisine is made of simple, but honest food. People here still try to eat seasonally, and the greatest 'showroom' of such philosophy is - Zagreb Farmer's Market (Dolac). During a 5-hours walking food tour you'll mingle through the market, sample tasty bites, and of course, pair it with local wines. Besides the market, you'll visit 5-6 food points in total, along the way doing sightseeing of Zagreb landmarks. You're part of a very small group (up to 8 people), this way you get undiluted attention from your guide (food expert).

Inclusions: English-speaking, food expert guide, Tour includes visits to the Dolac farmer's market and 5-6 additional food points (depends on the season), Boutique winery visit, Zagreb landmarks sightseeing, Lunch, Coffee and/or Tea

Exclusions: Gratuities, Hotel pickup, Hotel drop-off

My husband and I visited Zagreb for the Christmas market and decided to book a food tour with Karmela to make sure we didn't miss anything special. It was a great decision because her Advent Food Tour was the highlight of our visit. We walked around the different markets in Zagreb, trying food from different regions of Croatia. Not only did we find the best food (and mulled wine!) stalls the Christmas market had to offer, but we also got a great insight into Croatian culture and their Christmas traditions. Karmela was great company and passionate about good food. She made some great suggestions for us to visit for the rest of our time in Zagreb. If you visit Zagreb for the Christmas market, I'd strongly recommend getting the most out of your visit by booking a tour with Karmela. Tip - arrive hungry to this tour because you will leave very full! :)

A simple warm meal between breakfast and lunch is called - 'Gablec' in continental Croatia or 'Marenda' in costal Croatia, in rest of the world it's - Brunch. 'Gablec' and 'Marenda' culture is still there! So, let's taste traditional dalmatian and continental Croatian brunch together, but before that, we should mingle around and see all fresh seasonal ingredients and products at the Zagreb farmer's market (Dolac). After the brunch, we're moving forward to the boutique winery for Croatian wines sampling. So, it's all-in-one: Farmer's market visit - Tasty brunches - Boutique winery visit (wine-tasting & snacks).

Inclusions: English-speaking, food expert guide, Tour includes visit to the 'Dolac' farmer's market, 2 typical brunch dishes, Boutique winery visit / wine expert / wine-tasting & snacks, Snacks, Alcoholic Beverages

Exclusions: Gratuities, Hotel pickup, Hotel drop-off

Karmela’s tour was above and beyond just a typical food tour. She constructed the tour as if it was a menu with each stop being a new course (i.e. bakery to taste bread, meat and cheese in the market, coffee break, strukli..etc). In between each food stop there is ample time and walking to enjoy seeing major sights and historical areas of Zagreb. The breaks in between each stop also give you enough time to digest the previous food so you're hungry by the next stop! If you only have 1 day in Zagreb this is the perfect way to spend a full day tasting local cuisine and learning about the history of the city. We opted for the bonus location meeting in the bakery which started at 8 am and all in the tour lasted about 6 hours. We tasted many of the famous continental Croatian foods and wines and had great conversations with many of the local vendors we met along the way. A highlight for us was the strukli and the wine visit to Bornstein. All around it was a great day and I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in learning about the culture of Croatia and Zagreb through food.

My fiancé and I had such a good time with Jakov!! His knowledge of Croatian history and the surrounding countries was unbelievable, and he weaved in interesting stories and little facts as we strolled along in Samobor or drove through the beautiful vineyards. There was never a moment that wasn’t fun! He has such a great sense of humor and his passion for leading tour guides is wonderful. It’s clear he has so much experience as a tour guide and really is so great at what he does. We felt like we could’ve been old friends with him by the end of the day, and we’re so glad we had this opportunity. It was definitely the highlight of our stay in Zagreb!!
