We went on a weekday morning and it was not very crowded, I could see that it would be popular in a sunny summer weekend though. We explored the paths and descended to East Beach and climbed the rocks at low tide. The kids learned about lighthouses and liked exploring the beach. By the time we left mid-afternoon the parking lot was jammed, so plan ahead!

This can be a wonderful place to watch the sunset or just enjoy the ships that pass by. The actual lighthouse is a bit of a hike down from the point observation area. Great views of Lions Gate Bridge. There is a nice gift shop and coffee shop here.

This lighthouse on Point Atkinson is a great point of sail and of reference for power boaters and sailors. it is a prominent landmark in the area. beautiful.

The short and squat lighthouse having a height of barely 20 feet is strategically located at the south western tip of the coastal town of Ucluelet on Vancouver Island. The building is painted white and the light tower is bright red giving it a very charming look. It gives an impression of a loyal and lonely sentinel guarding the rugged coastline against the savage onslaught of the merciless Waves of the mighty Pacific. It is appropriately named ‘Amphitrite’, a Greek mythological character who was a sea Goddess and wife of Poseidon, and who could keep the sea calm and provide safe passage through the storms. We walked to the lighthouse by following the Wild Pacific Trail, Ucluelet Lighthouse Loop, which is a beautiful forest trail hugging the coastline at the south end of Ucluelet. It is a 2.6 km circular walking trail with spectacular scenery, and the lighthouse is located at the midpoint of the trail, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. To the left we could see the small wooded islands of the Broken Group in the Barkley Sound, and to the right is the open ocean. One can also take a short direct walk from the parking lot if one is short of time, but then you would miss the spectacular views along the trail. There are many informative sign boards and a number of benches on the trail to relax and enjoy the breath taking views. One cannot enter inside the lighthouse which is still in operation, though now it is fully automated. Earlier it used to be manned by the Canadian Coast Guard.

If you’ve seen the City and all it offers take time out for a day for a treat. Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse are waiting for you. From the Main Gate to Officers Quarters WWII Gun emplacements and all the history that comes with it. You really will feel as though the Sgt Major is nearby. Then the stunning lighthouse. There’s breakfast waiting for you and work on the light too. Take the family for a real adventure. It appeals to all ages and the views, well, you’ll just have to “Sea” for yourselves.

We love to walk the area of the wharf. There is always a little something going on. Street entertainers, beautiful view of the boats and the parliament area, the Empress hotel and the quietness of the water even if we are in the downtown area.

We were riding bikes along the seawall and this was the perfect stop to see the ships in the harbour. You can go under the lighthouse but it is not open to go in.
