I had the pleasure of attending Steve's spoon carving workshop a couple of weekends ago, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It is something I wanted to do for a while and am glad I did it through Axe and Paddle. He is knowledgeable and wants to share this with you, making sure throughout that you are comfortable with the tools and that your spoon carving is going well!. Always on hand for any questions and shares his passion for his craft with passion. It was joy to attend and carve my very own spoon, I am now looking at carving a paddle on his two day workshop! Kirsty was very helpful via email and answered any queries I had. All in all a great day -Great workshop, location and hospitality :) If you've been thinking of carving a shop or anything else with Axe and Paddle, go book it, you wont' regret it :)

Mosaic Workshops

MOSAIC WORKSHOPS I cater for complete beginners through to people who want help with their own ideas or projects. It is a practical hands-on day and you will complete a small mosaic, either a 6inch trivet for the table, a mirror or a house number or name plaque I will cover basic cutting and fixing techniques, and you will use mosaic tiles, and broken china cut or broken into various sizes and tiles of different cuts and sizes. It is concentrated but highly enjoyable work and does require a certain amount of manual dexterity as some of the pieces are1cm sq approx. We sit together around a large table and benefit from watching and learning from each other. Although the atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly you will achieve a lot and I will aim for you to finish and grout the piece to take home. Tea / coffee / juice and biscuits / snacks are available throughout the day and a delicious organic soup with bread and salad for lunch is provided.

We attended gill’s very special workshop as a small group and it was truly a highlight of my year. We learned and achieved more than we could have hoped for in an environment where the space itself, the people running it and the activities were all equally joyful. I felt at once relaxed and motivated and totally supported to explore different ideas and techniques, all with a steady stream of fresh tea and good things to dunk in it. (Vital for any creative adventure). I am already thinking about what I can do next time as this was such a great experience, I’d love to go back and do more.

I got the silver ring workshop for my mother and I for an early Mother’s Day treat on a weekend away in Brighton. We loved every second! It was so interesting to see all the steps that go into making a ring, through traditional silver-smithing and with the silver clay. 3+ hours well spent to make two pieces of jewellery that will be so much and are FAR more high quality than we ever expected. Jenny was wonderful, such a close eye for detail and really helped us with ideas at the start of the session. Amazing value for money too, considering the time you spend and the beautiful piece you come away with. Couldn’t recommend it enough!
