Arlington Arts Centre

Reviewed By SUSANH182 - Nassau, Caribbean

Our first visit to Arlington, it was fantastic. Booked online and picked up tickets on the night at the box office. An intimate venue, about 300 seats, so be sure to book early. Performers were both excellent as was the supporting act, a privilege to see such talent in this venue. Also took advantage of the delicious discounted meal at the Fox and Hounds just down the road (see separate review).

Wokingham Theatre

Wokingham Theatre is a thriving amateur repertory group presenting 8 major productions a year alongside Youth Theatre productions, short runs of less well known plays, evenings of new writing, and a wide range of theatrical skills training. We also make our auditorium available to others for work as varied as hair-dressing training and Brass Band performance. The group was founded in 1947, is a registered charity and our purpose has always been to promote the enjoyment of theatre in Wokingham. The theatre is staffed entirely by volunteers who give their time and skills to support all aspects of our operation. The theatre is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors elected from the membership by democratic vote each year.

The Mill at Sonning Theatre

Set on the banks of the River Thames, The Mill at Sonning Theatre promises a unique experience where your visit includes a two-course meal and a show in a beautiful converted water mill. Start your visit with a drink (or two...) in the Waterwheel Bar, or, if you visit us in the summer, take a sunny seat on The Mill Stream Terrace. From the bar make your way upstairs to our restaurant with views out over the river, where you will find your tickets and complimentary programme waiting on your table. The main course is served buffet style but our friendly staff will be on hand to take your drinks and desserts orders. After enjoying a two-course meal, prepared daily in our kitchen using only the best locally sourced ingredients, you will make your way into the main event of your visit - the theatre! The theatre itself is an intimate venue, seating just over 200 people, air conditioned with spacious and comfy seats that won't leave you longing for legroom or calling for a cushion. During the year we produce a wide variety of plays in the theatre, including a musical over the Christmas season, and regular music and comedy nights that will have you dancing and rolling in the aisles. Whatever your tastes, in both theatre and food, you will be sure to find something to whet your appetite here at The Mill. Our Waterwheel Bar is also open for artisan coffee and homemade cakes during the day. Pop in and see us from 11am-5pm every Tuesday-Sunday.

This place is excellent, very friendly place, great location, been a few times now and I like the buffet style restaurant and the performances and live bands have been really good.

Lucky enough to get a ticket to see "The Dark Side of the Wall" at Norden Farm. What a great evening with talented musicians, powerful sound in a relatively intimate setting. The venue has an excellent bar with some great Rebellion beer and very friendly and patient staff. Look forward to seeing another gig there soon. Thanks.

The Watermill Theatre

Just saw a mesmeric production of Jane Eyre, with only 3 x actors playing several parts. Wre-asha Walton (Bertha), Rebecca Tebbett (Jane) and Alex Wilson (Mr Rochester) manage to hold the audience to the very last word. Wre-Asha Walton deserves particular mention for her ability to transform into each character. Highly recommended.

South Street Arts Centre

Reviewed By cakebakes2000 - London, United Kingdom

This is for me the most accessible gig venue in Reading - you can park outside on South St (no specific blue badge parking but fine as you're allowed to park for free in the metered bays, which is the same anywhere in Reading). Slope up to door and automatic doors with wheelchair level button for them to open. Extremely friendly staff who will take out a seat for your wheelchair or leave it in - whichever you like. Slope & flat to both theatre and bar. Not used toilets so can't comment. Newly refurbished bar that do beers on tap and also tea/coffee which you can take into the theatre. Bar opens 1hr before shows start so great place to meet friends first. We find the quality of comedy really good, and indeed prefer this venue to the Hexagon which is far more of a faff to park for (and much further to push the chair!). Concert Hall is ok if you can park outside in blue badge bays but if not you have long walk from behind Forbury Gardens blue badge bays (and if they're full you're stuck!). The only accessible issue which is quite substantial is on the pavement itself when you leave the venue and wheel towards Sidmouth St - you need to cross the staff car park ramp but there are no drops kerbs. It's a right pig and I cannot get up and down them myself; even my burly friends struggle to move me over this bit. This is not the venue's fault but it's worth bearing in mind so you park in the right place to avoid it if you can. But as for South St itself we absolutely love it! Thank you to all the staff who are so lovely!
