Reviewed By 487jaymAfrica Roots is hidden in an grove of evergreens reachable only by driving up the wide beach from Lompoul. They have 22 rooms in about 10 thatched houses connected by paths. The team is actively expanding, having just finished an inviting swimming pool. Landscaping is continuing and a new generator for hot water in the rooms is coming. The team is very welcoming. They offer reasonably priced tours into the desert, which is reachable by 4X4 driving further up the beach and veering suddenly into the forest. There are also camps in the desert ut we liked the combination of beach and desert.

Noisy , lively
Reviewed By patriciaryan29We visited as a family for the Thursday Senegalese night . Food poor . Entertainment enthusiastic , loud drumming mainly . Energetic dancers . Could not wait to leave for some quiet . I do applaud their enthusiasm however.

Reviewed By 4753frnLa plage juste à côté, l'endroit n'est pas romantique. Mais l'accueil fait beaucoup, et nous y avons passé un bon moment, d'autant que nous étions plusieurs . Bien sûr, il faut relativiser, pour l'endroit, la prestation est vraiment bonne, même si ce ne sont pas les standards de grandes villes modernes ! Merci à toute l'équipe pour votre gentillesse !

The longest hottest night of our lives
Reviewed By victoriahS874LFThe property is much over-rated and pricey for what it offers. The bungalows are small but clean: there is no air conditioning, the fan hardly makes a difference and the one night we spent there was infernal and we left very tired and grumpy in the end. There is no real beach either - the hotel is next to a port. Breakfast is really tiny. In overall felt like the owners wanted money without investing in the property and services. We do not recommend it.

Reviewed By Shimnik(+) Babao camp is especially good for those, who are travelling by car around Senegal. However, if you go by public transport, it is also good. 100-200 CFA for a shared taxi and in 15 minutes max you are in Mbour. The hotel has a nice patio and a pool. Roam was spacious, with big bed and mosquito net. Do not forget to bring a mosquito repellent. If you stay in the Babao camp, visit the Liqueur de Warang shop and La Pirogue restaurant! (-) The location of the Babao Camp is not correctly placed on the booking.com. If you go from Mbour to Warang, the Babao Camp is on the right side of the road, maybe 300-500 meters before Warang starts. It is close to the Liqueur de Warang shop but on the opposite side of the road. Friendly dog will be barking if you know the door. The French lady, who owns the place does not speak English but if you know a few phrases in French, you will find how to communicate. There is no hot water but during a day you will not need it because the temperature goes to 30 degrees and fresh shower is just excellent!

Reviewed By Polyglot2This is one of the best hotels in Joal, unfortunately that's because there's no choice. The staff are friendly enough, but the rooms aren't up to the usual standards. Again the staff are very honest and extremely trustworthy. However nobody is keen to remove the stray dogs, ask to eat on the rooftop terrace and make sure you get a good mosquito net.

A protected nature reserve with a 360 ° panoramic view of the savanna, the Baobabs forests and the Guereo hills ...
Not sure we'll be back
Reviewed By Rios-LittleWe have mix feelings about our stay at the Lodge. On one hand the grounds, suite Horus (where we stayed), and the restaurant / outside pool area are very beautiful and the staff was nice. On the other hand, the heat this time of the year (October) was unbearable. The generator was not working properly and so with not enough electricity for fans we had a terrible night. We paid for two nights and didn't stay for the second night due to the heat. In terms of customer service the owner and staff were apologetic about the generator but didn't make much of an effort to offer something to make us feel better about such bad night. The only thing Celine (the owner or manager) suggested was for us to come back when the weather was cooler and they will give us a special offer, which was not clear what would be. In terms of Suite Horus, there is ample room but there is no stove, no fridge, not utensils, no soap. You need to come prepare even if you plan to be there for a short stay.
