A real Tuscan Haven, stunning setting and exceptional accommodation

Reviewed By Claire W

We absolutely loved our family break here. Staying at the Case de Lago was brilliant - the accommodation is fantastic, rustic chic at its finest and perfectly designed, including the overall freshness, cute Jack and Jill bathroom and that feeling of really living somewhere. Being able to rustle up your own meals (after a trip to the cobbled streets of Volterra for authentic and delicious supplies of course…) is really nice when you’re travelling as a family and not wanting the restrictions of set meal times every day. The private pool, garden area and electric buggy for roaming the estate were all delightful additions that were not on the website! You cannot fault the scenery or general ambience. The outdoor bar and wine tasting were particular highlights for us. The setting of the Al Fresco restaurant is cracking, whereas the main restaurant takes its menus more seriously. There is room for minor improvements in the speed of service, replenishment of breakfast buffet etc but who cares when you are having such an enjoyable stay amongst staff who are genuinely trying to provide the best service. We rarely go back to fabulous holiday destinations but we might just make an exception for Borgo Pignano…..

This was our second time at Il Tigliolo. We love everything about the place. It was perfect for our big family, we loved the pool, the hammock between the trees, the nature. All of it! It has true Tuscan atmosphere, we felt like in a movie :-) Paolo is a great host, he even brought us some local wine to enhance the Italian experience. The rooms were clean and tidy, the wifi was working really well, the bathrooms and the kitchen were equipped with everything we needed. We hope to come back soon!

This is a lovely small farm hotel north of Florence that had quite nice food. We stayed in the annex part below the main hotel which was new and quite well done. If you have mobility issues, this may not be the place for you as it is up on a hill, but otherwise, it was a nice stay.

Great stay as part of our trip through Tuscany. Beautiful location in between the sunflower fields. Spacious apartment with all the perks you'll need. Lovely restaurant on site. My toddler son loved the playground and the pool as well as having a peak at the tractors in the barn next door. Nearby beautiful Tuscany blue flag beaches. We will definitely be back and perhaps with extended family.

If your reading reviews about Terre Di Baccio then you must be thinking about staying here. Well think no more and book a few nights here, you won’t be disappointed. Such a peaceful tranquil place to spend nights after touring around Chianti. Staff are really nice and have all the time in the world to spend time talking to the guests, whether it’s recommending local restaurants, talking about the house or just general chitchat. The walks around the grounds are fantastic with all the animals to see. The pool, hot tub, and sauna and everything are well maintained and spotless clean. Breakfast is plentiful, fresh and well laid out. Coffee is as good as it gets. Although we didn’t have an evening meal here I can only imagine how good it would be. All in all it’s truly a fantastic agriturismo and one we hope to visit again.

Very unique and picturesque

Reviewed By CheekyLondon

You should be aware that there is a long narrow upward twisty wooded (mostly) single track road to get to this place but once you do it's a beautiful setting. What a sunset and 360 degree view! The welcome was efficient. The one bedroom apartment with an sofa bed in the lounge would have been fine for 2 adults and 2 kids but we were 4 adults so it was a little tricky to share a bathroom accessed by the bedroom. Perhaps other accommodations on site are not configured like this? Very relaxing with accommodation in ancient buildings scattered over the hill. A nice big (bit cold!) pool at the top of the hill. A good breakfast with variety. As it is so remote we decided to eat at the restaurant both nights of our stay (didn't fancy negotiating the hill in the dark!). The food was very nice on both occasions and pleasantly served by the two ladies. Good idea to bring provisions with you when you come, as the accommodation has a kitchen area (and bring loo roll too). We were disappointed that the Roman Bath wasn't open - this was advertised at the time of booking and was something that attracted us - but apparently it was too hot. If you want peace an serenity and to get away from it all - this is definitely the place for you.

Casa Montecucco

Located halfway between Castiglione della Pescaia and Massa Marittima, Casa Montecucco is a beautiful farmhouse in Maremma built on a restored farmhouse in Tuscan style. Set in one of the most beautiful locations in the Tuscan Maremma, Casa Montecucco is the ideal place for a relaxing holiday in contact with nature, discovering the most beautiful places this area has to offer, from the wild Maremma Park to the beaches of Cala Violina, Castiglione della Pescaia and Argentario, to the Colline Metallifere, passing through ancient villages rich in history and traditions such as Massa Marittima and Suvereto. This is the territory of the ancient Etruscans, and here you will find some of the most important archaeological sites in the Maremma and the towns of Populonia, Vetulonia and Roselle. The property offers its guests 7 cosy and comfortable rooms, furnished with authentic Tuscan period furniture. Each unit is equipped with television, kettle, air conditioning, telephone, internet connection and private bathroom. The large garden features a swimming pool with panoramic view and a Jacuzzi, making Casa Montecucco one of the most popular holiday farms with swimming pool in Maremma. Our property also has a restaurant that offers the typical cuisine of the Tuscan Maremma, with authentic and genuine dishes. All the ingredients are organic, coming from the vegetable garden or from nearby farms in the area. The dishes are typical of the Maremma tradition: bruschetta with extra virgin olive oil, crostini with tomatoes, grilled vegetables, chicken livers, local cheeses and cold cuts. Fresh pasta, tortelli, soups, fish and game-based main courses. For those who would like to try their hand at preparing Tuscan dishes, we also offer daily cookery courses and holiday packages.

You are in the middle of the Tuscany hills, on a peaceful farm surrounded by a very friendly family and hosts. Jessica and Filippo will make you feel better than with those relatives you never liked and the food is made only with local produce. I also strongly recommend the house red wine, which comes in a proper bottle from nearby grapes. I really hope to come back one day. Una splendida serata tra le colline del grossetano. What a wonderful location to spend a special celebration with family and friends. Each apartment offered just the accommodation we needed for our party of 13. Matteo eased the booking issues by being flexible and helpful with all our questions. Despite the age range of our party and individual requirements this was a great holiday. The pool and the courtyard were good for meeting up and then there was the wine tasting. Great. In all such a good time was had by all and months later we are still talking about the great atmosphere and the chances to tour this part of Tuscany.
