The Mission Belle is a family run motel in Mount Maunganui (Mauao). The Belle's hosts are Cathy and Ray who came over from England in 2008 and fell in love with the place as soon as they saw it. One of their favourite countries in the world is Spain and because it reminded them so much of the spanish buildings they were used on the coast it seemed to be the perfect scenario - a little piece of Spain in New Zealand - what more could they want??!! Unfortunately it wasn't available for them to own at that time but as soon as it came on the market, they snapped it up! They've been in the motel since December 2011 and have so far loved every minute of it. There is a sizable barbeque area and various seating areas dotted around the property, with or without shade and they have improved on the landscaping. The rooms were originally decorated with a "spanish' feel about them (hence the name) and now Cathy and Ray feel that updating the rooms is high on the agenda of plans that they have for the place. It is ideally located, close to all amenities that the Mount has to offer - fantastic cafes, amazing restaurants, and the beautiful stores that are all very appealing. With only a couple of minutes walk to the quiet Pilot Bay beach and a five minute walk to the main beach, there really is no need of a pool! Having said that, the Hot Pools are at the base of Mauao and are easily accessible with a ten to fifteen minute walk from the Belle. A beautiful walk around Mauao where you can take in some fantastic sights, or a more energetic or if preferred, a slow climb up to the summit will be an effort well rewarded with the magnificent views over the town and the sights of Tauranga.

Reviewed By mike385The property is close to the main beach and also Pilot Bay beach. Its in the main shopping area so very handy and great for shopping and restaurants. The room we had was spotless and well laid out. The reception is remote. Email and text instructions. OK for us. Probably a bit “ clinical” with it’s white paint but goes with the overall theme. Happy to recommend. Thought the price was high but in keeping with other accommodation in the locality.

The accommodation consists of 9 ground floor units, which are 5 one bedroom suites, 2 large studios, and 2 corporate studios. Parking is free and directly outside each unit. Selection of super king, queen and single beds. All units have dining areas, shower bathrooms, flat screen TVs with SMART TV's and Netflix, also free ultrafast unlimited WiFi in every room. Walking distance to beach supermarket, RSA, and shops, restaurants.

They were helpful, friendly and professional. Large grass ares for children to play, close to New World and beach, clean adequate room.

She tried to overcharge me on the phone as she stated "website prices were incorrect" which should have been the redflag for me not to book and when I asked her to honour the price she said "I have to call the owner" So I booked online instead and got the better rate. When we arrived I prepaid and went into the room which was a huge mistake! We then noticed all the cobwebs on the ceiling,fan and Aircon. We then we put our food on the bench and had a snooze and woke up to ants ?? all over our food. We went to the manager and she came over with ant spray and didn't even apologize. I did ask for a discount as and then she treated us like we were a burden and she needed to "contact the owner" No response so I emailed the info line and this was the reply from the manager "I told you that I would contact you if your bank account was needed for a refunded discount. I haven’t called you because it was not necessary as the business owner is not discounting your stay" Worst customer service ever..get a new job manager and make sure the rooms and pests are cleaned properly or do you need to contact the owner? Did the owner even get the call and email? What manager do you know can not make those types of decisions?

A short walk takes you to some excellent shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. The proprietors are very friendly and the allocated car park was adjacent to the room.

Reviewed By hanniepexThe place is very accesible from state hiway and few blocks away from Bayfair mall. We did not expect that a motel could have been that complete. The check in was very smooth. The guy accompanied us to our room. The unit has 2 floors. Ground floor has 1 single bed, small receiving area and mini kitchen. Mini kitchen has cuttleries, kitchen utensils, pans and mini fridge. The toilet hAs bath tub and complete with toiletries. Queen size bed is uptairs. I must commend this has the most generous plug/ socket that we have ever stayed in! I think the entire unit has 5 x 2 plugs. Yehey!! Thats 10 gadgets or appliance at the same time. Lol. There is a heater panel as well but electric fan is provided too. We are delighted that we were able to use their heated pool After a tiring day from walking around. The check out was fast and easy too! Will recommend this motel to everyone who does not expect something grand and not fussy. We are happy to stay here again and again in the future

Very pleased with the cleanliness and all amenities available. Car parking off road basically right outside your room is so good when travelling for work. Local shops are so convenient and the whole area is very safe.

Reviewed By Neil BFabulous location, beachside at Pilot Bay. Classic Kiwi motel that I suspect looks much like it did in the 1970s. Clean, tidy, spacious and functional. It’s not 5 star luxury with all mod cons, but nor does it sell itself as such. It had everything we needed for a great weekend away from home. The welcome at check in as as friendly as you’ll find anywhere. Off street parking. Free Wi-Fi. Easy walking distance to shops, cafes, beaches and The Mount. We’ve stayed at The Westhaven before and we’ll be back again.

Reviewed By allano405Motel is a little dated, but the unit we stayed in was clean and comfortable. July is mid winter, so it was a little chilly to start with, but once the heaters were turned on things quickly warmed up. The extension leads though that were provided could not handle a heater plus another appliance at the same time-they would always trip. This was a small issue as there were very few power points in the room, which meant you couldn’t watch TV and have the heater on at the same time. This of course would not be an issue in the summer. Owner was very friendly and helpful and rooms clean. Good proximity to beach, and 5 minutes drive to Mount Manganui. Uber in town as well, so no issue getting around if you want to have a drink in town with your meal and don’t want to drive. Uber cost was $13 each way(or you could walk in which would take you 40 minutes).

Tired and Disappointing
Reviewed By robertmB4089BUA fantastic location across the road from one of the best beach areas in NZ, The parking is very tight and the room (room 4) was horrible. The only benefit was that I only needed a single night but at $185 this was not worth the stay. The room is small with a large double bed and kitchen area right outside the bathroom. The room was tired and needed a total I did not enjoy staying here and II would not recommend this motel at all.
