The 750 square Kilometers Kinabalu Park was converted into a National Park in 1964 for its geographical importance and the abundance of flora and fauna. In December 2006, UNESCO awarded Kinabalu Park as Malaysia's first World Heritage Site for its "outstanding universal values" and its role as one of the most important biological sites in the world. Located 1,585 metres above sea level, Kinabalu Park showcases a complete and interesting ecological system unrivaled anywhere else in the world. It also carries lowland, mountain and alpine vegetation that are not seen anywhere else between the Himalayas and the New Guinea. Kinabalu Park also plays host to the annual Mount Kinabalu International Climbathon event, proclaimed as the "World's Toughest Mountain Race" and attracts top mountain racers from around the world.
I just bought an expensive Skechers shoes for travelling and also as my birthday gift to myself. It's like a self-reward to me after my hard work. I landed in KK and drove to KK right away on the same day and checked in to Hill Lodge during the evening when the rain starts pouring. It was a very tiring journey. I have many luggage as I am travelling with a baby. When I am picking up the luggage into the room, I forgot to bring my shoes together into the room because as a Malay, we rarely bring shoes inside our house. I left it at the verandah exactly near the door for a while. After some minutes, I take my shoes in but it was torn into pieces. My newly bought Skechers was torn into pieces! I was just about to begin my holiday but it was already spoiled. And then at 11 PM, some dogs (5-6 dogs) brawled and keep barking at each other just beside my room. My baby was awakened by the barking and starts wailing. We were also awakened by the noises and struggled to contact the counter as they are closed after 10 pm. To contact the manager, we need to search her number through their website. After 20minutes, a security guard comes and shoos the dogs away. It was a terrible experience and no one comes comforting us or saying sorry about it. It was a really awful experience. I am okay with the old furniture, poor facilities etc, but not this. I never expected SSL to be this terrible because it has many chains of businesses. But it is. I really don't recommend you guys to stay here. The only good thing is, the food is quite nice. That's all. To SSL, please install a fence at the verandah so that the dogs will not loiter around the verandah.

Rustic chalets and dormitory rooms set in Kampung Bilit Kinabatangan, be ready to watch abundance of wildlife from the comfort of boat rides. Transfers to and fro Nature Lodge Kinabatangan and meals are included in the tour prices.
The rooms are nice and clean. The staff was more than friendly. They just restarted after the covid period so some things were not available( wifi). The food was very good and more than plenty. Some things need to be updated, after covid, but nevertheless we had a wonderfull stay

Stayed at River Lodge, that was the only unit available at that time to accommodate our family. Lodge is really near to the river and surrounded with trees, shade and damp environment. 2 BR both with huge bathroom and balconies. There is no aircond in the living room and no pantry. Master bedroom direct view to the river downhill. 2nd br view is the road. No wifi during our stay due to line problem according to the staff. There's always room for some maintenance or renovation and a small pantry corner would be nice too ? . staff were nice and service was excellent. extra bed for rm70 each. next time we will book the bigger units, palm villa. price not that much different. oh yes 1 more thing, you need to do something with the aircond inside the master bedroom, the wall was vibrating and remote not functioning at all.

Check in is perfunctory, quite disinterested and doesn't have the welcoming experience. Rooms are showing some age, still somewhat clean. Mattress not as firm for a good night's sleep. To get the laundry list and bag seemed a real chore. It was not replenished when the room was cleaned when it should. Even after requesting in person at reception, had to call them again. Breakfast buffet is below par, basic Asian and some cereals. Their is no egss station. Once served poached eggs were practically uncooked, and the replacement took over half an hour. Under staffing. I must give credit to the three waitresses working non stop, clearing and cleaning the tables in between serving the

Newly built Mabul water longhouse. Clean, smart and comfortable, it is located in a quiet and beautiful part of Mabul Island.
Spent the happiest time of the year with Mabul Backpackers. Staffs are always cheerful, friendly, food are delicious, cleanliness is ok (for shared dorm), dive masters are friendly and experienced best value for money. The atmosphere and vibes were the best! will definitely stay with them again next time.

Staff friendliness : 3/5 (No smile) Room cleanliness : 2.5/5 (There's hair on the bed, nose dropping near the pillow) Privacy : 1/5 (Can hear the next room talking on the phone, doors closing, people walking with the sound of slippers flapping on the floor) Wifi : Free wifi, but not all rooms has wifi coverage, as the router is placed at the far end of the hall. Pro : - pricing is good. - walking distance to shops around the jetty. Cons : - noisy squicky bed. - thin wall. - unique toilet (two shower heads: hot & cold water, need to juggle the hot and cold water during showering)

This was an amazing experience to stay at Howard’s place for tree nights! Our best stay in Borneo for sure. You don’t come here for luxury. We came for the amazing environment and live in the jungle. So beautiful place. And the owner Howard welcomed us so well and make us feel like home immediately! You can’t miss this place if you visit top of Borneo !!

At RM48 for a dorm bed for a night, this lodge is a bit expensive. However, the beds are wide and the bunks high so the sleeping space isn't cramped at all. My dorm had only two bunk beds, so that also felt 'roomy'. There is a large (easily big enough for a backpack) locker per person as well. The room had three plug sockets. There are two showers and two toilets per floor which might not be many if there was a big group. Breakfast was tea/coffee/toast/cereal. It was very clean and well maintained. The market outside was audible but the lodge itself was very quiet. The lounge is big enough for a dozen people to sit at tables if you needed to teach a class, give a briefing or had a big group of students.

I had the opportunity to meet Rose and live one of the most wonderful, authentic and rewarding experiences of my life. I visited Sandakan for a couple of days and decided to stay at Roses house. If you really want to live the REAL LOCAL EXPERIENCE, this is the place for you. I stayed at Roses personal house, It is a guesthouse but she lives there!!! She is such and incredible, open and interesting person. I spent hours talking to her, tasting her food and just sharing life experiences. Rose is the perfect host, She will take you around town to see and eat in the most popular places. food markets, swimming pool, etc. which is very convenient because public transportation and options are VERY limited in Sandakan town. The rooms at her house are comfortable and you have AC or Fan option. the neighbourhood is very safe and she can also schedule other trips for you ( Kinabatangan River, Sepilok, etc etc.) My visit to Borneo was INCREDIBLE but other than the things I saw, food I tried, places I vissited and explored... I have to say that having the FULL experience living with Rose and her Family made this trip unforgettable!! THANKS ROSE!!!
