Great home away from home

On our way to Paris we stopped halfway in Brussels at Thon Hotel City Centre. We stayed there for 2 nights. I do not have a credit card, so we had to checkin before 16.00 hr. Because of heavy traffic we were a bit delayed. We called the hotel and they were very nice, "don't rush, take your time, we will hold on your reservation". Location is great! next to the busstop and metro. Manneke Pis within walking distance. Rooms were clean, (1 suite and 1 double room) clean towels every day. We really enjoyed our stay and when we stay in Brussels again we will book a room in Thon Hotel City Centre! Thanks again!

Bruxelles - nhow - VERY CREATIVE

Reviewed By thesojourn3r

Summary: - Location: Circa 10mins walk to/from Station and also main shopping centre. - Atmosphere: Creative! - Staff: Best asset the hotel has. - Hygiene: 9/10 - Restaurants: Separate breakfast and dinner restaurants; but also bar onsite. I wasn’t sure what to expect but the hotel definitely got me thinking and made me want to explore it all. I arrived at reception clearly having been caught out in the rain following a 20min walk. Erol on reception was brilliant and empathetic as he tried to hurriedly but very professionally check me in. As I turned to head up to my room, I noticed more of the art work. The elevators/ifts were definitely ‘different’, as unlike most elevators/lifts these days there was no glass or mirrors just ‘papered walls’. The walk to my room was amusing; as with room numbers on the non-carpeted floor it didn’t feel like I was in a hotel hallway. My room was creative. It definitely looked like an artist had thrown a wobbly and decided to splatter paint across the room even one side of the curtain. That I liked. The floor was bare - which I’m not a fan off as I could see some marks on it. HOWEVER bearing in mind guests had the opportunity to ask for canvas, paint and brushes to create their own art work it made perfect sense. (Easier to clean bare floors, than carpet if paint got splattered about). The mood lighting in the bathroom was interesting but my favourite thing in there was the great walk in power shower which looked pretty brand new. Dinner was lovely, but better than that were the staff especially Elo who was simply the epitome of customer service. The chefs and kitchen staff were also pretty good - as the ‘creations’ I saw the different guests delve into looked ace. Breakfast was way better than I expected and again with Christian on duty at the door it was a great experience.

Very beautiful building, lovely staff, free cookies, big rooms, A+ shower, and the breakfast was great! On weekdays, the breakfast is until 9:30 - definitely try to get there as early as possible because everything dwindles by 8:40. Prior to that time, it's fantastic!

Mixed Feelings

I stayed at the hotel Indigo for a business trip. It has been a mixed experience which started badly as a result of being essentially ripped off by an external booking agency that impersonating the hotel with a totally misleading webpage charged an onerous fee for the booking. I only realized a posteriori, so be careful. It is an American site called Guest reservations and their scams are documented in the internet. Pay attention that you book via the hotel, the guys have a web address of the type www.indigohotelbrusselsguestreservations … With actual photos from the hotel etc and the real price. The scam comes with the service fees. I informed the hotel upon arrival and got an answer the next day. It would be really good if serious hotels would refuse booking from this dubious agents whose job is to cheat people in a hurry. I gave my permit to the manager to send my letter to the IHG, the parent company. Apart from that, I list my personal PROS and CONS in order not to make the report super long. Pros: - very friendly and helpful personnel at the front desk. - extremely convenient location for attending EU meeting. Literally, next door. - very convenient location to reach public transport to main train stations, the tube entrance is just outside the hotel. Cons - Ultracompact room. mine was a double and it was just about for 1 person. I am quite small altogether so be aware. - unfriendly and poorly informed personnel at breakfast. I stoped after day 2. Nobody had any idea where things were, poor English and the lady in charge send me to the WC when I asked where the butter was (“batter” - phonetic = vater ???) does anyone ask for the vater in a hotel??) The same lady made me lose almost 10 minutes making all sort of checks and writing up because breakfast was not included and I simply wanted to add it day by day, if at all. - the area around is, what should I say, uninspiring. If going on holidays, look for something else. - there is a coffee machine in the room. Nothing else. I personally do not like to have an espresso in my room so it was useless . A kettle and the chance of having a warm cup of tea at night would have been much more welcome. In summary, convenient for business in nearby institutions, I would have to think carefully whether I repeat or look for a more confortable option if the stay exceeds 2 days.

Awful experience

Reviewed By N5613TIbarbarad

The walls in this hotel are paper thin. I can hear everything that’s going on in the other 2/3 rooms around mine. Even their conversations, and much much more. There is absolutely no privacy. And doesn’t help if other guests are up all night making a noise. There is no kettle or anything in the room, only a mini fridge with nothing inside. Downstairs there’s a vending machine that only takes coins. Honestly disappointing experience and you can honestly go for something a tiny bit higher priced in Brussels to get a real hotel experience. This is a hostel. It might as well be a dorm if you can hear others’ conversations and the intimate details of their night. Not at all a savory experience.

The hotel is very conveniently located - 10 minutes walk to attractions. There are good hotels in the neighboring buildings. Parking is also right next to the hotel, and there is a public transport stop in front of the building itself. Reception 24/7, very nice lobby. The room has a bathtub or a shower and a beautiful view from the window. I liked everything, I recommend! Very good breakfast with variety of food. Clean and comfortable rooms with nice view of a square. Location was amazing, very close to the Botanique, and 10 minute walk from Grand Place (city centre). Ideal location, close to Rue Neuve. Room in a tower with a magnificent 270° panoramic view. Staff very welcoming and friendly. The common areas with the neighboring hotel, Progress, are absolutely beautiful.

Great location

Reviewed By EmGoingPlaces

Overall it was a decent stay at the Progress Hotel, really good location next to one of the metro stations. It was about a 15 minute walk to the Grand Place, which was where a lot of the action was in the evenings. The hotel room itself felt like it could do with a bit of TLC but for the price we paid we didn't mind. However, there was definitely some sort of drainage problem in the bathroom, and whenever you flushed the toilet this horrible smell would fill the room and we'd have to shut the bathroom door to stop it filling the room.

Art Deco style & great value for money and a clean and very pleasant vintage hotel

Reviewed By Gregg S

I stayed 3 nights in May 2022 .The room I stayed in was number 105, it was elegant and spacious, and decorated in an Art Deco style with a geometric pattern carpet and elegant simple lean lines, the bathroom was also in this style but using brand new fittings to give it a fresh clean feel, it's good and has had a very good refurb ,the room had a very functional coffee/tea maker which worked well, and very good open wardrobe space , with a good flatscreen tv. The dining room was elegant , well maintained nicely spaced out, with a very good selection of breakfast things for the price, [perhaps some bananas might be good] , otherwise it was great, the staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly on the desk with my requests and the overall mood of the hotel was peaceful and relaxing, having a joint entrance made the hotel feel spacious and connected and modern not so great were very slight, the shower fitting tray over the bath is in the wrong place,so hard to use once the screen is unfolded [almost no gap between the bath edge] also the hard clear plastic chair in the bedroom. the life entrance should be sign posted on the double doors so it can clearly be seen, when the doors are closed. The lighting in the corridors could be brighter, the Spanish Hacienda design in the historic entrance hall should be restored to its original elegance,as it's gaudy like the set of a strange play.as it could look stunning, with some expert input and be a welcoming usable space

A bad life-time experience

Reviewed By Zac M

My father used to say "it takes a life-time to gain a customer and a moment to loose him". In the specific hotel I stayed plenty of times and was satisfied by service provided and personnel. I 'd dare to claim that it was a "value-for-money" case. Since my last staying there in the end of January. In the very first night, I was bitten by bedbugs. I arrived at 23.00 and went directly to bed. It took me 3 hours to "realise" that there was not any mosquito in the room. I killed at least 10 bugs but my nightmare could not be stopped. In 2020, in the centrum of Europe. At 02.30, the receptionist gave me another room but the damage was done. The insect bites in both hands, my neck and the sole of my right foot caused an allergy which lasted almost 2 weeks. Even now, when I feel any skin irritation I 'm thinking that I have possibly cared to my home these bedbugs.
