The best available hotels & places to stay near Regensburg

August 7, 2022 Alice Mieles

Founded by the Romans in 179 AD as Casta Regina (meaning Fortress by the River Regen), Regensburg is one of Germany's oldest towns. It was relatively spared from Allied bombings during World War II. Today, many flock to see the wonderfully intact old city and its many medieval structures. The 12th-century Stone Bridge was used by Crusaders en route to the Holy Land. The Regensburg Cathedral (or Dom St. Peter) is one of southern Germany's finest examples of Gothic architecture.

Sorat Insel-Hotel Regensburg

Extraordinary hotel with nobly interior, that style is reminiscent of art déco. Located on a small island in the middle of the river Donau. With picture-postcard view of the river, the famous Steinerne Brücke stone bridge, the old town and the cathedral. Top city location, peaceful and central.

A lovely stay, despite some issues

Reviewed By 135rogerd

The location of the hotel is lovely - we had paid for a river view room and were pleased with the view we had. The initial welcome from reception was nice - we were early so we went into town while our room was sorted. It was an easy walk to town and the Christmas markets at the Spital on the otherside of the river as well. Parking was ok - €16 per night now, but it was secure. Most of the street parking around the area is residents only or with some restrictions, so we opted for this so we didn't have to move the car. The big issue we have with the hotel was noise - we were in room 203 which is just off the large atrium where the bar is. The noise travels up through this and into the rooms surrounding it so you can hear the noise and voices from the bar. There is no door between the atrium and the corridor that the rooms come off. We noticed this immediately and asked if we could move further away from the atrium as we are sensitive to noise. My wife, not feeling well, wanted some rest before we went out for the evening. Furthermore, there is piped "lift music" through speakers in every corridor throughout the hotel most of the day. Reception acted as if they had never had this issue before. They allowed us to see another room (the only one left they said) and this was significantly inferior to the one we already had, but was indeed quieter. We had a quick chat and decided to stick with the one we had and I went back to reception to inform them within 5 mins or so. What happened then was bizarre ; despite ME apologising to THEM for the inconvenience (such is my nature!) the receptionist reacted badly, threw the keys on the desk, sarcastically said "Have a nice day" and turned away from me. Another member of staff nearby was also a bit taken aback by this. All very strange. Anyway, the room we had was nice, if a bit dated, and we actually slept well in the end, but we do carry ear plugs for this kind of scenario. There was a large bathtub, which my wife approved of, however the shower was handheld and there was nowhere to attach it at head height over the bath. Given we were in an upscale room - I found this a bit odd and old fashioned. There actually would be room for a separate shower cubicle in the bathroom it was so large. But alas no. There is noise if you listen for it when it is quiet, but you might not notice it all the time. I would recommend the hotel ditches the piped music in the corridors though - this is easily heard through the room doors and some people do need to rest during the day as well as the night (when it is turned off). The bar man in the evening made up for the unpleasantness earlier in the day - he was cheerful and recommended a range of drinks. We enjoyed the view from the bar and the drinks we had there. The room wasn't serviced properly between the two nights and I had to go back to reception and ask for more tea and coffee - again they acted as if this had never happened before, but were helpful in locating me some more. When we checked out, I approached the reception with caution, but the reception staff were different and were very nice and friendly so we left on a positive note. Its a hard one to rate, because in the end we had a nice stay, but there were just some things that made it less than ideal and I would only recommend to certain types of people.

Nice Boutique Hotel in Central Location

Reviewed By shineakashine

A short business stay in this hotel, but how I wished I could spend more night. The receptionist was extremely friendly and helpful (calling the transport company when the careless me left the handphone inside the van, only for me to find out during the check-in). Room is spacious and each room has slightly different design and decoration is classic. The location is right in the central and everything is within walking distance since Regensburg is a nice little quaint town. The breakfast was served with the typical 3-tier platters, which I found special. The only drawback is the gym facility is a little run down and simple with just cardio machines and that's all.

Centrally Located Hotel in Historic Building

Reviewed By SusanneMunich

Located centrally in the old town of Regensburg many attractions and restaurants can be reached by walking. Being a historic building, almost all of the rooms are different with a nice flair. Unfortunately, ours didn't have a mini bar. The reception staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast however is mediocre at best and leaves much to be desired (including good coffee).

Very nice stay!

I had booked a suite on line and was very pleased with our suite in the 'new' wing of the hotel - spacious, well appointed and quiet. The new wing is located right next to the cathedral and we found a way inside the cathedral literally just outside of the entrance of the accommodation - excellent! We had lunch at the hotel restaurant which serves traditional Bavarian fare of very good quality. Breakfast was also good and the service levels of all the team members we encountered were excellent - very friendly team members. The only issue: better signage to find the hotel in the old town of Regensburg...the car park is rather difficult to find.

Very friendly and helpful reception, very varied breakfast - everything fresh and made with love - at the breakfast very helpful lady. Rooms smaller, but nothing was missing, for me a better view of the courtyard, where are the rooms quiet. The appearance of today's difficult time of Covid , all at the highest level. Everything is constantly disinfected, non-contact disinfectant gels everywhere. Beautiful Christmas decorations ???and especially the atmosphere, thank you very much ?❤️‍??

Appealing hotel - perhaps a bit too quirky

Reviewed By Roadboy

Made a good choice for a one-night stay, arriving by car, as outside the central restricted zone (yet only 10 minutes from the stunning heart of the city, over a canal lock then the Danube). Relatively expensive (€145 with breakfast for two), but we did get an immense room - very sparsely furnished, with idiosyncratic fittings, in places style over substance. An excellent buffet breakfast, and easy parking underneath.

Location, staff, rooms all great. Definitely recommend this hotel

All staff we met were friendly and helpful. The hotel is right on the doorstep of the cathedral which felt very atmospheric. It was clean and spacious both in the rooms and around the public areas. The only negative that comes to mind is that the double bed was actually two single beds pushed together - this didn't spoil our stay though, and we actually stayed another night than we originally planned as we liked it so much
