Fabulous One-Night Stay, Too Short

Reviewed By Aslanschild2

Due to scheduling conflicts, we checked in very late, between 10 and 11 p.m., and were greeted by the nicest front desk person, a lovely young lady whose name I unfortunately can't recall now. (I'm still trying.) She had all kinds of great advice for things to do the next day, and we followed it to a "T." She was exactly right, and her advice added to our trip immensely. Of note, she recommended Castlewellan Park and Tollymore Forest Park, both of which turned out to be real gems on our mostly unplanned itinerary. She also assigned us a spectacular room with an ocean view, which was not expected, and we were likewise delighted by the delicious included breakfast buffet the next day. This was our first night ever in Ireland, up from Dublin airport. Far from having any service issues, everyone on staff whom we met was friendly, courteous, and went out of their way to be helpful. But I wish I remembered our check-in girl's name. Her husband belongs to the golf club there. If anyone there who may read this can figure out who she is, please give her our warmest greetings and deepest thanks. She may remember us. We were there on a C. S. Lewis "pilgrimage" of sorts, and I shared with her that I wrote the only published index to his writings.

Afternoon tea treat

I visited the slieve Donatd hotel for afternoon tea today. What a fantastic experience. The staff were friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived. We had a beautiful selection of infused teas to choose from as well as the normal . Loved the butternut squash soup and beetroot and goats cheese tart to start. The sandwiches were fresh and a good range, the scones delicious and light and the pastries were a real treat . Truly loved every minute . It was a pleasure to taste food obviously made fresh in your kitchen and not bought in. Thank you . We will be back.

Harbour House Inn

Family run small hotel, 8 en suite rooms, terrance dining with panoramic views of Dundrum Bay. extensive menu including locally sourced fish & shellfish. Fully licenced bar & lounge including Our newly added South Prom coffee shop & brew bar. Our property is on the South Promenade at Newcastle Harbour: The harbour is among the most richly historic areas of Newcastle. Home to many longstanding families, the area around the pier has a long association with the sea. The origins of the current harbour date back to the 1820's, when a new pier was created by Lord Annesley to replace the old one. One of the chief functions of the pier was to act as a loading point for Mourne granite, which was quarried in the hills above the harbour. If you stand on the shorter arm of the pier and look up towards the mountain you can see a path cut through the trees leading to the now defunct quarry on Millstone Mountain. In the last century, stone was quarried here and dispatched down this track to the harbour by railtrucks. It was loaded on to ships (known as Stone Boats) and used to build docks in Belfast and Liverpool and the courthouse gaol in nearby Downpatrick

Intimidating atmosphere

Reviewed By S9692QHdanielr

Upon arriving everything was fine until what is now a PTSD event for a few people, the smell of petrol fumes and the sound of a quad bike now triggers a few. Dessie Patterson on behalf of the "Director " completely ruined what was otherwise a lovely trip to a beautiful part of the country. With aggressive and intimidating actions towards a group of essential workers and NHS staff trying to enjoy some time away from the frontline. I hope the Director will address these issues for the sake of all the national investment in Meelmore lodge.

Got badly burnt in the shower, wedding guests in rooms banging our door scared life out of us!

Reviewed By Michelle B

This is a room, not a guest house. Stayed with friend and collected keys next door in the bar. Room was clean, damp patches on the ceiling. The rest of the House was fully booked for a wedding the previous day. We were in bed sleeping around 11pm. Got wakened at 3AM when a man screaming and shouting to get in was banging on the door for at least 20minutes. It was a terrifying experience. There was no reception or security! We went to get showered the next morning. I was badly burnt, as boiling hot water was coming from the shower. I ended up in A and E, later that day. I reported this to the manager. She apologised and stated she had given us a full refund. We are still waiting. I am horrified to read someone else has been burned by this shower. It’s a Health Hazard!

I was traveling alone for work and my company booked it for me and it was a wonderful surprise. The Front Room is really cozy, has a separate walk in closet - perfect for keeping all the clothes / personal belongings in order. The bed was comfortable and I adored the “lounge area” inside the room where you can sit and relax or work on the computer. Outside the room there is a common area with a glazed balcony facing the most beautiful view on the garden and the mountains. The hosts are adorable and made myself feel at home. Patricia cooked for me the breakfast of dreams and I enjoyed it from the dining room which oversees the same beautiful view as the balcony. I will be back as soon as possible for a vacation.

The Stables is a three bedroom self-catering stunner located just to the rear of the main house. Sleeping six across three ensuite bedrooms with a beautiful open-plan living space, it is the perfect place for a self-catering break in the Mournes. When we lived in London, we often holiday-ed back in the Mournes and we were met with varying standards of accommodation. We knew what we needed to have a great holiday and we wanted to provide that to visitors when we opened. We wanted thoughtful accommodation. Somewhere with plenty of space with all the mod cons. We wanted somewhere that was purpose built to relax and chill out. We wanted something that was warm and cosy but also stylish and fun. We wanted somewhere that was close to beautiful places. Bonus points for a view. The Stables does all of these things and we are super proud to be able to welcome guests. What it offers: Newly converted to the highest standards Entrance hall/bootroom – with washing machine and tumble drier 3 bedrooms, all en-suite, sleeping up to 6 guests (1 downstairs bedroom, 2 upstairs) Bright and airy open plan kitchen/dining/living space (upstairs) Kitchen – hob, electric oven, dishwasher, fridge freezer Living room – Freeview TV Private parking for up to 3 cars Outdoor space and use of mature gardens Oil fired central heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi included. Gorgeous Bryansford Cottage

Reviewed By Emma G

I spent a weekend with friends at Jay and Mary’s wonderful house, in the B&B accommodation in the main house. It is a beautiful old house, lovingly restored. It was spotlessly clean, the breakfast was fab, and Mary and Jay are really lovely, and could not have been more welcoming. And the location is truly sublime, surrounded by an abundance of natural beauty, and of course, the stunning Mournes. I definitely hope to return, and could not recommend it highly enough.
