Theatre Royal Hotel

The Theatre Royal has been lovingly restored and now features six themed rooms with adjoining en-suites. Five rooms are upstairs whilst one accessible room is located downstairs. Each room is unique, featuring a blend of Victorian decor and antique furnishings, while featuring all the modern amenities you would expect from a great hotel. The hotel includes a great restaurant and cafe, with your favorite West Coast brewed beers as well as a fine selection of wines and spirits.

A credit to the owners - the hotel has been restored to its former glory.

The accommodation - Miner's cottages are excellent and well-priced. We decided upon the Seddon Suite and to be frank it was a mistake. Whilst impeccably- decorated in period fashion it was a little dark and gloomy. They also lack a couple of basics - a microwave and heated towel rail. In hindsight we would have booked a miner's cottage.

This place is truly a gem - not only does it have all the home comforts at a reasonable price, it has a magical feel - peaceful and pretty, fruit trees (the apples were delicious) and gardens, a treasure of a place and very relaxed. We also got a warm friendly welcome! I'd highly recommend staying here.

Comfortable and convenient for bike trail

Stayed here as on the West Coast cycle trail. Three adults in one unit (I think there are just two units total which are joined together). They don’t quite look like the photos now though interiors are similar. It was clean and comfortable and a nice outdoor area for seating was good. The units are behind the store so convenient if you want to buy food or a drink. Friendly owner. Only comment would be it is quite expensive at $200 a night with 3 adults in one room, however I think this is quite typical of the West Coast at the moment. Wifi was not particularly stable and just two TV channels.

Quaint, cozy, awesome.

Reviewed By CanuckPeter

My friend and I stayed here for one evening on our way to Mount Cook. Firstly, the price is excellent! The cottage was very quaint and comfortable, with all the amenities one needs. The kitchen was well equipped and the rest was very comfortable. The bathroom was well kept and the beds were comfy. The staff was very helpful and friendly. As other reviews say, there is a musky smell in the rooms, but that's to be expected with an old house. Just open the windows when you get there and you won't even notice it. One issue is the single bathroom. We ended up with 5 guests, and there were a couple of times we had to wait for the bathroom. However, the staff at the Royal Theatre were more than helpful and allowed us to use the bathroom in their facility. I really enjoyed my stay here and would recommend it for anyone.
