Konkamoya Lodge

Konkamoya in the Nianja language means "Follow the wind". And from the wind scoured bush and Andrea's passion, in 2010, the lake side lodge was born on the banks of the Iteshi Teshi lake, in the heart of Zambia. Four luxurious tents furnished in a colonial style able to accommodate up to 8 guests only. A purposely small number of explorers with a passion for nature who are eager to explore the animal Kingdom who will be lead on a voyage of discovery of the secrets of the African Bush: Learn to follow marks, foot prints or broken twigs, the remains of banquets of mighty predators and observe the extraordinary life of insects and small mammals which are usually difficult to spot during a normal safari in a vehicle. Arriving at a few meters distance from a heard of elephants is always an awe-inspiring jaw dropping encounter. Who follows the Konkamoya wind knows that they can find a huge sensation behind every small bush, as well as finding a lake that promises new horizons for bird watching aficionados. Land and water mix into one as the call of the African water provides the soundtrack for the day accompanied by fishermen, and over the ant hill it is possible that a few hippo and lions will poke their head to say hello.

an amazing visit to Konkamoya

Konkamoya deserves a litany of superlatives - the location on the lakeside is stunning, Andrea and Caterina were the perfect hosts, all the staff were so attentive and helpful, the food was the best Italian cuisine could provide and the tents were spacious, the beds comfortable, and the showers always hot. Aaron and his assistant Daniel gave us such well informed game drives - they knew all the animals, birds and plants and tried to find everything we wanted to see. Such a lovely experience. Wilderness Safaris Shumba Camp

Seasonal camp running 01 June - 01 November. Shumba means ‘lion’ – an appropriate name for a camp located in the midst of several lion pride territories. Indeed, the felines are known for their tree-climbing abilities, and prey on the plethora of herbivores that frequent the Busanga Plains on which Shumba is situated. From the raised decks, the view is panoramic and often filled with grazing puku and lechwe; floodplain grasses stretch to the horizon, interrupted only by isolated protrusions of fig and palm trees. Finally, there is no better vantage point from which to absorb the Plains’ vast remoteness than from a hot air balloon. • 6 tents (1 family) • game drives • seasonal boating • hot air ballooning

Isaac, Po. Motale, Nick, Charles....the list goes on. the hospitality of the staff from the teams that keep the vehicles running and cleaned, to the chef's and bartender's wonderful creations, warm, welcomes and friendly, helpful staff see to your EVERY need (including toast made over a hot fire before your morning game drive and a nice pre-dinner-after-game drive cocktail)...it goes on! A one-of-a-kind-like-no-where-else-on -earth setting on the Busanga plains and every room (high up on stilts to offer a better vantage) has an incredible, panoramic view of the plains with hippos, elephants, lechwes, puku, birds, zebras....the list goes on. And Yes, the STAFF of this camp is what makes it so special.. Helpful, thoughtful, polite, and willing to teach us about their traditions ...you have only to ask "how do I say...." and they will teach you how to speak their language (which may be one of many different languages spoken in Zambia). We asked what they normally ate, so one dinner they made us the foods THEY LOVE AND WHAT THEY EAT. Delicious! We enjoyed tehri company, their hospitality, their generosity, and their hard work to make us all fell welcome as guests in their country. If I am able to go back to Africa....Shumba is where I would go. Lions,. buffalo. wild dogs, elephant, puku, porcupines, road, sable, zebra. wart hog, hartebeest, impala, birds...and birds galore.

The best vacation we have ever had.

Reviewed By 429yasminan

My partner and I spent 2 days at Hippo Lodge from October 6 to October 8, 2021. Two days were not nearly enough. The staff was amazing. So attentive. So caring. We stayed in the Honeymoon House. Right on the water. The view could never be matched. We relaxed. We fished (my first time). We did a night drive. (Saw some cute hippos looking for food.) I can't wait to go back.

Brilliant Afternoon Safari

Reviewed By Peter W

We were visiting Zambia as Christian Aid supporters, visiting some of the supported projects. Our free afternoon we booked on a Bongwe Safari, and hit the jackpot. Our driver / guide Malambo was friendly, skilled and extremely knowledgeable about all the wildlife we saw on the safari. We were picked up promptly and drove to the Musotunya National Park, Livingstone. Malambo seemed to know were we should go to see the wildlife, and encouraged us to spot animals ourselves - which he then gave us a wealth of information on. He was able to spot animals / birds and drive safely at the same time, and the afternoon went by all too quickly. Towards the end we picked up a guard and went to the Rhino visiting area, where we tracked bush style to view a mother and young Rhino. Then on the return we stopped for a relaxing sunset drink and snack overlooking the Zambezi before the return to the hotel. An amazing afternoon, thanks so much Malambo - we encourage anyone looking for an adventure in Livingstone to book with Bongwe Safaris - you won't be disappointed.
