We had a wonderful time at Tapir Lodge. The owner/guide Kurt knows and shares so much information on the Amazon - rainforest, animals, insects etc the boat is comfortable and is one of the few with a clean quiet engine and the boat driver spots everything worth spotting. Great hikes, beautiful boat trip, visit to Shaman, good food etc

Kichwa Lodge

Community led eco- tourism in Cuyabeno The Kichwa Amazon Lodge Our project is led by the young members of the community who have learnt that you can take advantage of the beauty of the jungle without damaging its delicate eco-system. Our mission is to provide a community project which offers sustainable ecotourism for the area of the Amazon from which the community comes. We are working with our community leaders, who have allowed us to lead this project, in the effort to offer our community members the opportunities they need. All the money earnt from your visit to our territory will be managed by the local people, not taken by tour agencies which have monopolized much of the Cuyabeno reserve. The earnings from our project are not only reinvested in the lodge but also used to support the education of our children, develop community conservation projects and maintain the knowledge and customs of our ancestors. Our community is committed to protecting the jungle and keeping it intact while creating employment and education. We have available rooms for you!!!

WOW WOW WOW super experience!! We are really happy that we chose Kichwa Lodge organisation. The team was great and really helpful and sweet. Our guide Edgar told us a lot about the culture, old stories of the community and facts about the wildlife. But above all he knew the specific type of animal (especially bird species) by sound. He and our boat driver Franklin made sure we could take enough time to enjoy seeing the animals and make pictures. They always found a way to get you to see all the places. Everyone in the team knew how to imitate the sounds. For example Franklin was amazing in imitating a caiman, to which real caiman reacted on the sound! Our chef Bayron always prepared a great meal including fresh fruits and juices. The team catched an arapaimar fish and was perfectly served by Bayron later that day. We saw: 8 species of Monkeys, Anaconda, a water snake, frog, spiders, butterflies, pink River Dolphins, hornet Eagle and hundreds of other birds! We chose this organisation partly because it really cares about the local communities. Part of its profits goes to their own community and for example one day we went to a Peruvian community and made bread together. Here they also sold some nice jewelry. All in all it was an adventure build on honest foundations. Definitely recommend!!

A Good Time For A Good Price

I strongly recommend booking a flight on TAME to Lago Agrio months in advance. You can take advantage of the 'promotional' price (around $45 round trip) and save yourself hours and hours of riding on a bus. Jamu Lodge provided us with a taxi that was definitely in keeping with the jungle experience as it was a pickup truck taxi with bananas in the back. We threw our packs in the back with the bananas and settled in for the 2-hour ride to the staging point for the river ride. The staging point for the river ride was a large pavilion next to the busy, but not very wide Cuyabeno River. The lodge provided us with lunch here. There were bathrooms and a small shop to buy various products (mostly sweets). We boarded our dugout canoe (with motor) and travelled 2 hours down river to the lodge. We stopped to see some fury monkeys high in the overhanging trees. After a couple hours' rest, we went out on the
