Amazing get away
Reviewed By GabyzamWe stayed for several days at the hotel. The rooms were very comfortable, staff refreshed every day our room and added fresh towels. Breakfast was ok, but is include in the reservation. Staff was helpful and informative. We love the vegetation around the hotel, very colorful and vibrant, we called our little paradise. I will 100% recommend this place for national and international visitors.

Hostal Amalur is a new hostel where you will feel like at home, is well located, out of the noisy area but close enough to listen the ocean at night. Here you can find nice atmosphere, good tips, good food, and help to organize your days in our town.We, Diego and Lorena will help you in all that you need trying to make easy your stay and making you able to relax and enjoy the beach of Canoa.If you want to stay longer periods we make special prices for weeks or months. Is an ideal place to learn spanish with a native speaker from Spain while you are surfing or just spending your holidays.The hostel has 2 dorms ( 3 beds each) and another 6 double rooms with twin or double beds. Every room has a fan, mosquito net, locally crafted wooden beds and beautiful Ecuadorian art. All of them with private bathroom, hot water, and free wifi. Bed sheets, linen and towels are provided, and the bathrooms has hot water 24hsWe have three common areas, one in the roof where you will relax seeing the sunsets in the hammocks, another one is a patio with garden and the restaurant.We are located two blocks from the beach and one block from the main street.

It had AC in the bedroom (although it didn't work particularly well), hot water, a fridge and a propane burner for cooking, a kitchen table/chairs and a small living area with chairs in it. The owners and the staff were super helpful. We never wound up eating there, but the local expats have told us their seafood is fantastic, although a bit on the pricey side for Canoa. We were looking for a place for a six week stay, although we wound up choosing something else, I have no doubt this place would have been just fine, and the owners offered us what I consider a fair price

Hotel Canoa´s Wonderland is the perfect place for a family vacation or for a relaxed getaway as a couple. The direct access to the beach and the swimming pool are perfect for all ages, while the jacuzzi and sauna will be mostly enjoyed by adults. The rooms have either air conditioning or fan, all have private bathroom with hot water and television with directv. Prices include breakfast and dinner. Come and check us out! You will not be dissapointed!

Reviewed By HoustonMedicNothing special here. Very basic, but very affordable. Their rate when I stopped by was much, much less than what was posted on the internet (a third of the price). The hotel does have nice, hot water and air conditioning which was a plus. It was nice to return from the beach into a cool room. The included breakfast is minimalistic without much variety. If you’re on a budget, it’s a good option. Otherwise I would try elsewhere.

Beach Basics with Excellent Customer Service
Reviewed By Stephen VCanoa is where you go to escape the throngs of people at the beach. It is 'not' a Myrtle Beach, South Carolina nor an Ocean City, Maryland. There are only 3,500 people in Canoa so it is not a huge gathering place for beachgoers. The Sundown Beach Hotel is even more remote as it is a thirty minute walk south of Canoa. When my wife and I walked from Canoa to the hotel, we were the only ones on that stretch of beach. This hotel is nothing fancy. It reminds me of a 1960s or 1970s motel at the North Carolina coast. It is really a basic place to stay. There is no air conditioning in the rooms. Hot water is non-existent at the sink so if you have to shave, it is cold water. There is a small bedside table, and an area off to the side to put your belongings. We had a second floor room with a balcony. Because we were a floor up, the ocean breeze helped keep the room cooler. A hammock was on the balcony to enjoy the ocean view and the salt air. Like many hotels in Ecuador, our bed was a double size. For taller people, it is a tight fit. Landscaping is absolutely lovely at the Sundown Hotel. There are numerous colorful tropical plants as well as a fountain in the sandy courtyard. Three tables with chairs are in the courtyard to eat and have adult beverages. Several hammocks are available to use on the very short walk to the ocean. At the dune line, there are three benches that have a thatched roof over them. It is a very nice place to sit and enjoy El Pacifico. Breakfast can be eaten in the courtyard or inside the dining hall. It is our understanding that the dining hall will be converted into a full service restaurant by the end of the year. One of the family members that owns the hotel is a chef in Canada, and his soon-to-be wife is a chef, too. They will be running the new restaurant. Until then, you can get dinners prepared for you for an extra charge. We both had a delicious seafood dinner one night. The entire staff is excellent and very friendly. They are super friendly and helpful. We had to leave early, but the gentleman who cooks the breakfasts offered to come in early to cook our morning meal. The manager helped my wife with her jellyfish sting. His local first aid treatment was very simple and effective. This place is really a three-star hotel, but the customer service bumped our rating up a notch. If you want something very affordable with just basics, the Sundown Beach Hotel is an excellent choice for you.

Reviewed By Inga_K_KI really enjoyed my stay, got lucky to have a room on the upper floor with a great ocean view and the sound track to accompany. Having a hammock in front of room was great. The shower was excellent. There is a pool, but I did not partake, having an ocean right over the street. On the main street, but no issues with noise, perhaps due to COVID limitations. The beach-side restaurants all lined up just out the gate. The price very reasonable. In short, full package of all you need for great holidays. Would not mind if a light comforter was provided, but just sheet seems to be the theme all along the coast (it is however not necessarily that tropical at night when its local winter). Slept fine anyway with a long sleeve shirt on.

There was a pool table and ping pong table, some board games, lots of hammocks... all for guest use, which was nice. Staff was friendly and helpful. The food was a bit on the pricey side

A newly built and beautifully crafted hotel whose friendly owners provide a welcoming and homely atmosphere. Situated in a quiet location yet within a few minutes walk to the beach and restaurants of Canoa the hotel offers charming, clean and spacious rooms all of which have fans and en-suite bathrooms with hot water. Balconies overlook the lovely gardens where you can sit and relax or lay in one of the hammocks while sipping a cocktail from the bar. Stunning views of the ocean and the sunset can be seen from the roof terrace. Facilities include a kitchen and bar area for communal use, complimentary coffee every morning and a delicious choice of breakfast for a small charge. Surfing lessons, board rental and mountain bike rental are available. Cooking courses, yoga and trips to Isla Corozon can be arranged through the hotel. For beer lovers there is also a fabulous trip to the BeerKingo factory where you can taste 9 types of beer.

Reviewed By Meander61923608286The hostel is only a couple of minutes walk from where the bus stops and is a short distance from the beach. So you don’t have to be disturbed by the loud speakers from the beach bars. The room was very nice, big bed, fresh bathroom and toilet. A fan was in the room as well, which was needed, at least for me. Javier is a great host and is incredibly helpful with everything you need. He also speaks danish which was very fun since I’m Swedish so we had a good chat mixing Swedish,danish,English and Spanish. Mariella made really nice breakfast for 5$ which was real hearty and sufficient for the whole day, including surfing. I have only good things to say about this hostel and Javier. If you don’t want to be right on the beach this is the place to stay while in Canoa.

Nice Hotel right across the street from beach
Reviewed By suschStayed only one night at La Vista Hotel while on a whirlwind tour of the country. Really pretty ocean views from our second floor room. The hotel has a lovely rooftop deck on the 4th floor with ping pong tables and hammocks. Our room had a queen size bed and a bunk bed so could have slept 4. Unfortunately, no hot water though. The restaurant/bar served a delicious dinner and breakfast and some darn good Caipirinhas!
