Faulty Towers!
Reviewed By Mandimus197316We booked a week here just before the Jubilee and wished we'd read all the terrible reviews first. The receptionist was surprised we had booked a week obviously because she knew how bad the hotel was. She had to show us to our room because it sounded like a trek to get there and it was! It's a good job none of us had any disabilities with the number of stairs we had to climb then she led us out the back of the hotel up some rickety wooden stairs around a corner into a separate building. On our first impression it looked clean and was spacious. I then went into the bathroom to find urine sprinkled on the toilet seat and a dirty bath mat hung up so had to clean up. We weren't able to lock our door from the inside so it would be constantly banging if you left the window open. There was no kettle in our room so we had to buy one from a nearby Asda. There was no full length mirror in the room but a tiny one in the bathroom. We got regular towels everyday but I noticed one looked like it hadn't been washed. The mattress was very uncomfortable to sleep on and gave us sore kidneys after a night's usage. The parking outside the front was on a steep hill and you were very lucky to get a parking space. We had to park on the pavement in front of the hotel to find a parking ticket on our wiper the next morning. The hotel didn't warn us about this because we told them we were struggling to get a space. The rooms were very noisy when people were staying in the room above us as you could here every movement. On the last few days before going home I was in the bathroom and could smell very strong cannabis. Later that evening the people above us decided to have a party, invited their friends, had loud music, were drinking and smoking weed. It was midnight and my husband complained and the guy on reception came over and knocked on their door and told them to keep the noise down then went back to have a smoke outside the hotel. We decided to leave at 1am in the morning because they were continuing to make lots of noise and we knew we wouldn't get any sleep for a long journey home. We would never stay in this hotel again - it makes Faulty Towers look good!

Lovely B&B full of character
Reviewed By GemmaA672Lovely B & B with character. We were traveling for an event and wanted something different from a hotel. The Old Barn is full of character and was just what we needed. It's situated in a quiet country village, there is a pub a few doors down although sadly we never had a chance to visit it (it's meant to be very good). Continental breakfast was laid out for us the next day. Our room was nice, clean and homely. We had to use a local taxi service which was recommended and they were there in 10 minutes!! Thanks for letting us stay we would recommend.

Reviewed By janicebT1600LMStayed for one night in room 1 it was a twin room on the small side but was very clean and had a small fridge in the cupboard which I thought was a great idea it also had a hairdryer and iron Breakfast was brought to the room it was a lovely breakfast all fresh and hot it was lovely not to get dressed and go down for breakfast The only thing our bathroom was not in our room but next to our room which we didn’t mind it was a lovely bathroom shower was nice and hot and easy to use because it was our private bathroom we had to open it with a key but we had 3 keys on the keying and they all look the same I think it would be a good idea to put different colour s on the keys so you know which one is which thank you for a lovely stay we will definitely be coming back

Our property is 14 minutes walk from the beach. Aberthaw House Hotel is set in the charming West End of Barry, just a 15-minute drive from the M4 motorway. The property was built in 1892 and boasts some original features. It offers full cooked breakfasts, ensuite bathrooms, digital TV, ironing boards and fantastic views of Barry town and there is free WiFi available throughout the building. The hotel has a bar and Restaurant available from 18:00, last table seating at 20:00 Monday to Saturday, Our beer Garden is open when ever the sun is shining, for you to catch some rays while eating and drinking your way through our treasured menu. Aberthaw House Hotel is central to all activities and local entertainment, Whether your trip is for business or pleasure there are areas for you to unwind and enjoy. You can take leisurely walks or cycle to see our local beauty, or take a look at High St where you can indulge in the boutiques and cafes. We are close to local bars and Restaurants. Barry Island is the towns greatest attraction for the beaches, fun fair, crazy golf, bars, restaurants and during the summer months there are many weekend entertainment for families, couples and lone adventurers.

Reviewed By H3451PSelliewBeautiful rooms photos when before we booked don’t do the room justice. A super friendly welcome when arrived. Very clean hotel and immaculate room. A coffee machine which I thought was a lovely touch. Really tasty welsh breakfast with a smile. Super Comfortable bed, so much attention to detail in the room. So worth every penny. I would definitely stay here again.

Disappointing
Reviewed By ClaireH0wI had made a booking in the middle of last year through booking.com for christmas 2021. I then recieved an email a couple of days later saying my booking had been cancelled. But I hadn't cancelled it. I contacted Simon to reinstate the booking he said he couldn't and to contact booking.com. He then had a booking that had dropped into the vacancy left by the cancellation. Booking.com said it was a glitch on the computer . No one could give me any explanation. This had never happened to me before. We were left with no accommodation and a new search for somewhere to stay. Two months later I checked on Simons own hosting website and the accommodation had become available again. This time we booked directly and with my husbands details. At no point did we think the same thing could happen twice. It had! We had confirmation emails credit card details taken. The booking had been cancelled. It was only a chance phone call by my husband asking about pets. Did we find out. Again the property was booked by someone else and he refused to cancel their stay. Confused and disappointed the explanation from Simon was again completely disingenuous. We were offered a property 2 hours drive away. We explained after 2 years of not seeing family due to the pandemic, we needed to be situated in this area. Again we were left without accommodation during the Christmas period. Our treatment was incredibly poor and disatisfying. Thankfully it ended well and we found an amazing property. I won't be trying for a third time to book this property we all know how its going to end!

Asked about breakfast ( I have stayed before lockdown ) was told " we don't do breakfast anymore" in a sarcastic manner then no WiFi in the room Asked a member of staff who had to ask someone else " does the WiFi stretch that far " no sorry I don't think it does? Rooms wernt serviced had to ask for clean towels. When we checked in there was hairs in the shower and one on the pillow . ( it wasn't a hair from someone's head ! And mould in the shower. Don't get me wrong I didn't expect the ritz. As for the " FIRE DRILL " When at 2.30 in the morning the fire alarms were going off..... well I will leave it there
