Very clean and comfortable

Reviewed By TerezaRae

I am very fussy with cleanliness and I usually bring my own bed sheets, bedspread, and towels wherever I go, but they were not needed at this lodge (except for beach towels and pillows in the cottage), as everything looked so clean. We stayed 3 nights in cottage #3, then we decided to stay one extra night, so we moved to hotel room #12, as the cottage was already booked. The mattresses in both locations were comfortable and bother showers were great. The cottage had everything needed for cooking. The only minor problem we had was that the freezer was too small (just a bar fridge) and didn't keep the ice frozen. The same type of fridge in the hotel room. The owner (Ferdous) is very friendly and always just a phone call or text message away. We will be back there for sure!

Don’t judge it by the outside

This motel is located on an abandoned golf resort and looks a bit quaint from the outside but the rooms are super clean and comfortable. The property has a lake and you can canoe on it. There is a pedal boat and life jackets for use I believe also. A good choice for us.

De prijs - kwaliteit verhouding us zeer slecht. Er is geen tv, en wifi werkt niet.

Beautiful Location on the Snowmobile Trail!

The Sands was a beautiful and convenient stop over on our recent snowmobile trip. We stayed for two nights and enjoyed everything about the property, including the spa! Great meals, attentive, friendly staff, and owners, It was obvious that everyone working at the property wanted to ensure a great guest experience. Our room was clean, neat and tidy, and had a comfortable bed. We highly recommend this property! The spa services was a highlight for me, and part of the reason we chose this property. I was not disappointed! The spa is located in a small building with a beautiful view of the lake. Spa staff are wonderful, and the services I experienced were absolutely excellent.

THIS PLACE SHOULD NOT BE CHARGING THESE PRICES !!!!!!!!

Reviewed By Doug W

This is a place I have driven by for years and always wondered what it would be like to stay there. SADLY....I got the chance this past week. The FIRST RED FLAG I should have realized is the NO REFUNDS FOR CANCELLATIONS "policy".....Who does THAT???? BUT LET"S START WITH THE POSITIVE(S):..... LOCATION.........and the bedding (in ROOM 10) was clean and provided a comfortable sleep.......and that's about it. So let me begin on the real stuff: All the rest of the negative reviews are pretty much on point. (1) CURBSIDE APPEAL....there is none. A terribly run-down appearance with construction materials all over the place and gravel pushed up to the front of the building for recent flooding. Potholes that jar you and your car as you enter the lot. There is a little digital sign ...hardly legible....and completely invisible from the road above the door advertising $79 per night rates for "walk-ins". The RECEPTION area looked like it was in the process of construction. Even WITH a printed out reservation form...and I was THE ONLY PERSON STAYING THERE....the lady had trouble finding my reservation on the computer. The outside of the actual motel rooms is disturbingly plain and unappealing (2) ROOM CONDITIONS.....from what I observed I probably received the most recently renovated room (ROOM 10) and upon entering it looked nice and clean. On closer inspection that changed. Furniture looked old and was chipped. The telephone was an old business phone and the handset and receiver cradle was ABSOLUTELY FILTHY from years of use somewhere else.. It had obviously NOT been sanitized before my arrival...let alone EVER!!!!!! There was a satellite TV ...with basic programs originating from the WEST COAST, a tea kettle, a microwave and a noisy mini refrigerator. One of the wall switches did nothing and the top wall plug was dead. The patio doors were fairly soundproof but if you are a light sleeper you will still need earplugs for the highway traffic right near the motel as well as the noisy refrigerator. (3) BATHROOM.....it was fairly nice and clean with new towels and some bathroom products provided, This was the closest to a standard motel room as it got although the exhaust fan with the shot motor/bearings was noisy and a potential fire hazard. HOWEVER, when looking at the toilet bowl I thought someone had recently used it as the water was YELLOW!!!!! As it turns out the motel is on well water but its filtration system (if there is one) is NOT WORKING. The water was brackish (yellowish) and tasted "earthy". DEFINITELY I would NOT drink this!!!!! There was no plug rod on the sink for the drain so if you made the mistake of trying to fill the basin you would not have been able to drain it!!!! (4) EXTERIOR and AMENITIES (?)....It would have been nice to be able to sit outside the room at night and see the stars but the "lakeside" lights are constantly on with no wall switch control. This will DEFINITLY be attracting the mosquitoes and black flies soon!!!! As this is a "shoulder" season I was not expecting their canoes or kayaks but I was expecting at least one chair outside my "LAKEVIEW" room. There were a few Muskoka chairs scattered around and a two-seat wooden swing which had tape holding one of the broken supports. NOT particularly safe. Throughout the complex there are a few signs of some improvements such as a new elevated boardwalk to the cabins (why??? flooding??) and a few new picnic tables in a nice shelter which is in need of some scraping and re-painting. All the other bigger housekeeping cabins looked like they were ALL in states of repair. (5) RESTAURANT. I did not even bother to venture in there after looking at the menu provided in the room. The prices are disgustingly exorbitant. Examples: Breakfasts for $16......Burgers for $20.....: 6 chicken wings (a POUND is at least 10 to 12) for $24.95...SERIOUSLY????. How could anybody let alone a family eat here? BOTTOM LINE: I was charged $200 (tax included) per night for this place. WHY? I would NOT stay at this place again even if I DID get the $79 "walk-in" rate they advertised. You can go across the water to an absolutely beautifully maintained year-round proper traditional Muskoka resort with a huge number of established and maintained amenities for the same (and sometimes cheaper) prices.. Do your research and whatever you do...... AVOID THIS PLACE !!!!!
