I really liked a way their reception took care of my issues. It was pretty late when I arrived in the hotel but I still got my tasty dinner in my room. Impressive! I really mean it! Things will get better and you will thrive!

Nice enough

The great thing about this hostel, from arriving in Ulan Ude, was the location. It was located immediately opposite the train station; given that we arrived at around 5am on the overnight train from Irkutsk, we were glad to have the place to dump our bags off at while we awaited the check in time. Fortunately for us, the room was already free when we arrived and just needed cleaning up - so the friendly lady on the front desk let us check in immediately and go to sleep, which is the sole reason this hostel gets 4 stars from me instead of 3. She spoke no English and neither did the rest of the staff from what we saw - this wasn't a problem for us, but may be for others. The older lady who checked us in was really friendly but the rest of the staff were kind of cold towards us and snappy towards other guests, so the welcome was a little bit marred by this. The room was comfortable though. We booked a twin room but it was no problem to push the two beds together in order to make a double. There was a plug socket above one of the beds but not the other; since we moved the two together this was also no problem, but if you keep the room as a twin room again this may prove to be. The only problem we had with the room was the wifi, which was absolutely terrible; Russian wifi seemed mostly sketchy at best anyway, but the wifi in the hostel here was some of the worst we encountered on our whole trip across the country. If you're trying to work online while travelling, or even just want to stream a film or some tv in the evenings, this is definitely not the hostel for you. The kitchen was quiet, but usable. There are no signs up saying that alcohol is prohibited, but we heard one guest being shouted at by staff and threatened with eviction for bringing booze back to the hostel. We managed to get away with it by drinking in our room quietly though, and no one said anything about us storing a bottle of vodka in the freezer overnight. We didn't see many other guests while we were there, and the few we did see seemed mostly to be locals instead of fellow travellers. There are only two showers and two toilets though, so this meant that we never had to wait a turn for either. Still, a little bit more life to the place would have been nice. Otherwise, it was a small, quiet, and friendly hostel; not somewhere I'd consider a place I must stay in again, but equally not somewhere I'd mind going back to. The train station was right next door, and it's about a 10 minute walk to the central square of the city which has a few good bars and places to eat nearby too, and there is a cheap supermarket on that walk for basic supplies as well.

Nice and clean hostel within a walking distance to the centre

Reviewed By Sari K

We stayed here for a night on our way to Vladivostok. Room we stayed in was clean and spacious with comfortable beds. Bathrooms were ok too, although the smaller one didn't have a sink in it to wash your hands. Shower was really good with great water pressure! People working in Dali were very helpful and pleasant even though not much English was spoken. Would definitely recommend this!

Modern looking, but awful service.

Reviewed By Technic_Lee

Looks modern with the usual facilities, but terrible staff. The place was dirty and noisy too. We must have had the worse receptionist. She was of no help, took a good half an hour to write down passport details for two of us. She wouldn't accept debit card and couldn't point us to an ATM either. We weren't even allowed to use the toilet until we had paid! Go elsewhere.

Out of town, but a pleasant hotel / hostel

A well designed modern hotel with option of cheap multiple bed rooms, like a hostel set-up. Well worth the journey out of town for a comfortable bed, relaxed atmosphere, and cheap price tag. Plenty of parking and a club across the car park with live performances.

A HOTEL WITH GOOD FACILITIES AND HELPFUL STAFF

Reviewed By frankiektchang

I arrived this hotel well after mid-night; having doubts about feasibility to travel to Mongolia in the morning. Despite not even getting my commitment to book a room for the night; the hotel staff was keen to answer my enquires including actually making instant search for information and trying to make bookings; all of which were time consuming and tedious. I would attribute this to be significant gauge to identify not only of a reliable accommodation operator, but also one with comparable advantage to stayers. Although I stayed briefly in the hotel from mid night till dawn, the standard of room facilities meet expectations; in fact in many areas exceedingly better than usual in cleanliness, freshness and peaceful. That it is at ground level and near to the railway station is surely a plus-points to serve backpacker's benefits.

Magical day in the Barguzin valley

Reviewed By rtmeagher

We were travelling by train from the UK to Vietnam and Sasha and Galinia's homestay was our first taste of home life since we set off. They were very welcoming, great food and a comfy bed. The following day we had a fantastic trip to the beautiful Barguzin valley with Sasha - cloudless skies, rivers just beginning to freeze, wild horses, shamanic ceremonies by the road, a walk in the hills followed by lunch in a small village with mountainous plates of delicious local food. We got back to a traditional banya and still more food. We couldn't imagine a better day. Would highly recommend a stay with Sasha and Galina. We hope to go back when Baikal is frozen.

Modern cosy hotel close to railway station

Reviewed By soosoo888

I stayed here for one night. It was a very warm and comfortable hotel. We stayed on the 5th floor which had a security door entered by an electronic key button to the rooms. The furnishings looked new. Breakfast was ordered from a menu with three choices - British which included bacon; Italian - omelette and the third was fried eggs. In the evening it was noisy. Be careful in the shower as there was no handle inside and I couldn’t open the door and had to get my companion’s assistance to open it.
