The best available Hostels hotel to stay near Lazio

April 26, 2023 Jasper Kershner

Lying at Italy’s geographic and historic heart, Lazio (or Latium) was the seat of the Roman Empire, and as such is teeming with ancient attractions, especially in the Eternal City of Rome itself. To the east, Tivoli has Emperor Hadrian’s exquisite and massive Villa Adriana. Civitavecchia, today a major cruise and ferry port, has been Rome’s main harbor since the second century. Many pre-Roman sites dot Lazio too, like the Etruscan necropolis at Cerveteri, dating from the 9th century BC.

The RomeHello

The idea to open The RomeHello popped up in my mind a few years ago. Many of the international friends I had met during my own European travels would ask me for suggestions on where to find a cheap and nice place to stay in my home city of Rome. But, even after some research, I didn’t find anything fitting for them. And I thought it was senseless that a city like Rome, with all it has to offer, was kind of prohibitive for young tourists. So as my family has worked in tourism for many years, I decided to involve them in the project of opening a hostel in our city - to make it not only ours but everyone’s. Also, I decided to combine the project with my intention to do something good for the others. So I turned the hostel into a non-profit social enterprise, with the aim of changing the economic thinking of standard companies.

A splendid terrace overlooking Rome

Last evening we decided to go out for a drink, choosing the opening event for 2022 of the Generator's terrace. A wonderful evening, spent among delicious drinks and snacks, welcomed by Generator's staff, friendly and always attentive to the customer. We also met the General Manager Benedetta, a perfect hostess, able to create a cozy and informal atmosphere with her team. We will come back to Generator, for sure.

The Beehive

Rome's homiest and most chill hostel since 1999, we're a sanctuary in the midst of a bustling city. From the moment you walk in, The Beehive is the kind of place where you'll feel at home. It's walking barefoot down to the cafe for your morning coffee; getting helpful advice & recommendations; eating great food; drinking local organic wine and having a good night's sleep. Located conveniently just two blocks from Rome's central train station, Termini, you won't have to lug a heavy backpack or luggage all around town. Our relaxed vibe and casually stylish atmosphere are perfect for unwinding after a day of exploration. Whether you're traveling solo, with friends or family, or as a couple, we have a variety of room types to suit all needs and budgets: dorm beds (including several female only dorms), private rooms with shared bathroom and private rooms with private bathrooms.

Excellent Hostel

Reviewed By SilkRoadTraveler

Beehive is a very well run hostel with excellent facilities and an outstanding staff. There are lots of activities and the location is fantastic - easy access to trains, buses and the subway. I stayed in a private room which was more spacious than I expected. There are two locations and although they are close to each other, I recommend staying in the main building. My only issue was that coffee was not readily available in the morning.

Had a fantastic stay at Alessandro Palace. The rooms and bathrooms are clean and well maintained, the staff are fantastic and they can help with anything. Patrick and Jackpo are worth a particular mention, they’re brilliant, there’s nothing they can’t do! If I come back to Rome, I’ll definitely stay here.

Good Stay for the price

Everything is in walking distance to this hotel the colosseum and trevi fountain around 15/20 min walk but easy to walk. The hotel is clean and bedding and towels was changed on the daily. Easy check in but remember to bring euros with you as you have to pay the city tax with cash. There is a lift to use to get to each floor air con and heating in the bedroom. We got there using the shuttle bus from CIA airport pretty straight forward you can get the tickets which are around 6euro from the airport and pick the bus up at number 2 just outside the airport this takes you straight in to rome centre called termini Roma once you arrive here the hotel is approx 11 mins walking distance. To get back from rome to the airport same again you can go back to the same place the shuttle bus dropped you off and catch the shuttle again back to the airport once your at the stop you can buy your ticket there by a lady who comes over when the bus is about to arrive.

Freedom Traveller Hostel

Amazing hostel

Reviewed By Sean_12349

This has been my favourite hostel experience. The staff are welcoming, the guests staying there are always nice too. I'm sad I had to leave, but I had an amazing time here. The only fault I had was the shower wasn't great. You had to move the dial really gently otherwise you'd either get freezing water, or hot water. The hostel has a happy hour in the evening where they offer free wine to their guests to encourage them to talk to other travellers. For the 4 nights I stayed here, I would make sure I was back from my day out to enjoy the free wine and good company and many others during my stay did the same also. One of the employees, Mario, was amazing. He would encourage guests to talk to each other, he would join everyone in the garden for a beer or two after his shift and he would get to know the guests really well. He showed a large group of us to a bar that was open late at night and on the last night, he cooked a large pasta dish with muscles for the group which tasted AMAZING! It's in a prime location too. The metro/train station/ bus station was a 5-10 min walk away. The Colosseum was a 25 min walk away, there were plenty of nearby restaurants and a coffee shop on the same street. There are local mini markets close by too. Very little to fault on this place. I will always remember this experience and I'd 100% live it all over again. Thank you for an amazing time!

very bad experience

Reviewed By Catapd

I have stayed in more than 50 hostels and the first time I am in one with such bad attention from the staff and in general a hostel with much to improve: 1. We booked a room with 2 beds and got 2 beds in 2 different rooms, and this happens to a lot of people. Everyone we talked to was upset about it. 2. The staff was intransigent and even giving him a solution, they did not try to help at all. When people lack the tools and attitude to handle different situations, it is better to talk to the machine than to the people. Honestly, I recommend training staff to be more helpful and approach customers with empathy and a willingness to find solutions. The worst answer is to say "it's not possible". 3. the keys must be handed over to the reception and they made a mistake by handing over a key that did not correspond. In addition, the locker keys are used for more than one locker, so it seems to me a serious point. 3. They don't give soap in the bathrooms and they give coffee in a plastic cup. Considering today's environmental problems this should be prohibited. For all those reasons, I do not recommend this place, in any way. There are millions of other hostels with better service and attention.

Great front desk people. Good location away yet close to the hustle and bustle

Reviewed By M7685MRjohnh

Front desk ladies were extremely helpful with our email and Covid documentation requirements (to fly back home to Canada). Dining room staff were also very pleasant and food was good. We loved the roof top restaurant. While we are a little older, we were able to to visit major attractions, many within walking distance. We also used the "Hop on Hop off" bus (and as an extra: were blessed by the Pope !). Rooms were comfortable enough and service excellent. Fully recommend this hotel.

The Bricks Rome

Best friends trip

Reviewed By sharoncTravelZ12

My stay at The Bricks Rome was excellent. They even set up our transportation from the airport via email ahead of time. From the moment we arrived, Giada at the reception made us feel very welcomed and was extremely helpful. She gave recommendations on where to go and routes to take and set up one of our tours. She also recommended this delicious little restaurant open late called Mattarello. Her suggestions made exploring Rome so much easier. The market, mall, and metro were a short walk away, about 10 min. And the bus stop was located about a block away. If you don't mind staying in a more quiet area away from the city center, this place is great. It was very clean, comfortable, and all the staff was friendly. Honestly, once you get the metro routes down, getting around is a breeze. There's lots of walking, but that's to be expected. We were very pleased with our stay and would definitely go back.
