The Humpback Turtle is a beach hostel in El Valle, Colombia, on Almejal Beach where the powerful Pacific Ocean meets the vibrant jungle of Choco. We offer rustic beach side accommodation in thatch roof cabins with private rooms, dorm beds, and hammocks. Our restaurant serves fresh fish and locally grown fruit and herbs, with a guest kitchen as well. Our bar keeps the cold beer and reggae tunes flowing, with stunning views over the Pacific. In addition, we offer an array of tours and cultural activities in the area. As we have a beach break right in front of the hostel, we do Surf Classes and Board Rentals! Come & live the Pacific at the Humpback Turtle!

Reviewed By Rbailey11This is the wild. A hostel on the beach, a stone throws away from the Pacific Ocean in its most raw sense. This is one of the most remarkable places I've been to. Great people in the hostel, even though I was there during low season - I think I preferred the peace. Seeing these locals hustle, on the edge of Colombia was quite a spectacle. What an amazing experience. Thanks team

We are an ecological hostel We are very interested in recycling and the friendly use of nature. We are in front of the sea where you can enjoy a view of sunsets and the fresh breeze of the sea, in front we have a beach volleyball court where you can share with native people or other foreigners in the afternoons. Behind the hostel we have a Natural reserve of humid forest where you can make ecological walks to enjoy different environments in one and only place. We have fruit trees where you can see animals like birds, reptiles and insects, the whole hostel is a quiet space to read, meditate or rest because we have enough space to have different environments, if you are looking for friends to have a relationship we have the bar where we have music from the region and the general dining room where you can share with family, we are the closest Hostel to the Town of the whole area because we are in front of the sea but 10min from the town walking, We are Hakuna Matata

Reviewed By Bobbydu77Une bonne adresse dans le village de thermales que l'on rejoint uniquement par bateau depuis Nuqui (1h15, 35000 pesos. l'embarcadère est à 200 mètres de l'aéroport, réserver en amont via la posada). L'endroit est chaleureux, Nena et Lincer sont adorables et très serviables. La cuisine y est excellente et le confort du lit est bon. C'est l'ambiance locale dans la simplicité. Deux douches sont à l'extérieur des chambres. Le wifi comme l'électricité fonctionnent de 14h30 à 22h30. La plage est à seulement quelques mètres. Prévoir des liquidités car absolument rien sur place en CB. La plage, la piscine thermale, les fameuses baleines et des randonnées seront vos occupations. Mer superbe, coin isolé du monde en tout cas en juillet 2020. Le mois d'août serait le plus fréquenté mais ce ne sera jamais le rush ici. En bref, un bon souvenir et une vraie déconnexion bien nécessaire.

As close to nature as it gets
Reviewed By GFEricAlthough I came here during the pandemic while it was extremely quiet in Capurganá (there were almost no foreign tourists at the time), I thoroughly enjoyed my two nights here. It's right along a nature trail you can hike to the Panamanian border (once it reopens), and you're surrounded by jungle even though you have only a quick walk to town. The hosts were kind and helpful, and the facilities are rustic but comfortable. The made-to-order breakfast was terrific, and it was fun using the open-to-the-sky shower. I don't know if I'll ever make it back to Capurganá (it takes some effort and time to get there), but this is where I'll stay if I do.

Not so great on second look
Reviewed By Karen BThis place looks great on the surface - modern, cool design, pool out the back. But - it doesn't live up to first impressions. We took a private room (100k)- the air conditioning was pumping out barely cold sewage smelling air, it was absolutely teeming with mosquitos and the shower was a tiny trickle. The staff were friendly - although I found it weird that they would socialise with their friends right outside our room on the decking area for guests. The pool was out of action because they were sanding and varnishing the decking around it (no sign- sticky feet). Could be great with improvements and a little more love.

Reviewed By Caminando13Hicimos una reserva al ver las fotos tan lindas que mostró, pero la realidad al llegar fue otra, suciedad y desorden por todos lados, las habitaciones y las camas sucias y llenas de moho, nos tocó buscar habitación en otro lugar.
