Native Glasgow

What: 64 apartments sit within a beautiful Edwardian building that was formerly the headquarters of the Anchor Line Shipping Company (a transatlantic passenger service founded in 1855). Our design takes inspiration from this and the opulence of a 1920s ocean liner. Best bits: 24-hour reception, two on-site restaurants, and George Square on your doorstep. In the rooms we’ve kept original features intact – with terrazzo flooring, timber wall panelling, stunning fireplaces, and original safes sitting pretty. Why stay: This is the perfect base to explore Glasgow from. Packed with history. Updated with stylish design. Getting here: Glasgow Central station, Queen Street station, and Buchanan Street subway and bus station are all a 5-minute walk away. Glasgow airport is a short 20-minute taxi ride. If you’re driving then there’s plenty of space at the nearby NCP car park.

Could do better

The design of the room was a bit poor. There was no easy chair to sit and watch the TV; you had to lounge on the bed. Likewise if you wanted to do your hair, the mirrors in the bathroom and hallway were too far away from the sockets to use the hairdryer. For the price of the room I expected some reasonable soap, shampoo etc. There was only a hand/body wash and a shampoo in refillable dispensers. And those in the shower were screwed into the wall like a cheap Travelodge. No soap bars. No hair conditioner. No shower caps. The dishwasher showed the warning lights that it needed salt and rinse aid so I did not use it. In three days I was there, there was no sign of any housekeeping or cleaning. If you aren’t going to clean the bathroom you could at least leave a bog brush so I can do it myself. On the positive side, the bed was extremely comfortable and the bed linen and fluffy towels were of good quality. There was no instant coffee provided; the bottle of water in the fridge was impossible to open, and and the odd biscuit would not have gone amiss… And since I am on a roll of moaning there was no local information in the room: no cross selling of the bar (bars? Restaurants) co located in the building.

Brilliant hotel. Friendly staff

Despite being on what most would call a dodgy street the hotel was amazing. Me, my partner and my dad were informed earlier in the week that the lift was broken but was offered late check out which was perfect as it gave us plenty of time for us to get from the apartment back down to the reception. We cannot fault Gabriella, she was more than accommodating for us and had a very pleasant and patient personality. The apartment was like a wee home from home for all of us. The living room/dining area was spacious and welcoming with comfy sofas and chairs. The bedrooms were outstandingly clean and despite having 2 street fixing rooms we heard no hustle and bustle with the exception of when we had the window open. Would reccomed to family and friends and would stay again

Central location, but noisy. Looks a little tired

Location is fantastic, literally 5 minutes walk from Queen St. Station. Easy check-in and no hassle. Apartment is clean comfortable and well equipped. Negatives - nothing major but signs of wear and tear showing, such as bashed doors by ground floor lifts, wardrobe door roller missing, and gaffer tape on back of TV remote. Main problem was noise. Stayed Saturday, Sunday night and kept awake until 4am, then 3am respectively. Doesn't seem to be much else nearby so believe it was from balconies of other apartments in the same building. Nice enough, spacious, and good value, but I wouldn't use again, which is a shame as its so centra.l

Shocking

Reviewed By susanb43_37

Never again! The smoke alarm was broken . No heat detector in the kitchen. The floor of the kitchen was ripped up . The window in the bathroom was completely rusted. The bathroom looked fairly new but incomplete as the sink unit was loose. There must have been some drainage problem as there was a definite smell probably why the window was left open. The skirting was incomplete. The bannister at the stair started at the 2nd step up and ended before the top. Ive no idea how this place was passed to use as rented accommodation . The tv had no signal so no channels. The bed was clean and fairly comfortable the only saving grace. We had been at a function during the day and as such I didnt see the state of the place until after the function by which time it was too late to go elsewhere . I can't give a minus rating or I would.

Helpful staff and units are like apartments

Second time staying here. First time was five years ago. Since then, they have double-glazing in windows overlooking George Square - it's a listed building and they needed permission. Our living area overlooked the Square, with two windows and, unless a window was open, could hardly hear traffic or people noise - but you can still hear sirens; it is the city centre! We had a back bedroom overlooking an interior open well; again, no noise. This was Suite 407. This is a great place with a lot more space than a normal hotel room and the equipped kitchen area offers facilities for cooking - hob top, oven and microwave - if you're so inclined and a fridge, handy for your own vino, wine, beer etc:):) There's also a bedroom (comfy bed) with plenty of closet space, a bathroom and laundry facilities in the unit. All very comfortable accommodations. Very helpful, friendly and efficient staff. A couple of minor issues but nothing that they didn't try and correct and I/we would stay here again. Great location in the centre of the city with public transport nearby - bus, train, subway. It is a wee bit difficult to unload luggage in front and car parking isn't easy in the city centre - seemingly they have a deal with a parking facility, but it's really a good 10-15 mins walk away, not ideal in inclement weather. We returned our rental car and walked/used public transport. Two thumbs up for Premier Suites George Square!

These apartments were a huge let down. I booked an overnight stay for me and my husband to get ready before a date night. However the apartment is small, basic and dated. It resembles student accommodation. But is priced as a luxury apartment. The sofa was smelly, and badly stained, the towels were hard, and the room looked a bit grubby. On booking, I paid £300 deposit. 9 days after check out I had not been reimbursed. After 3 phone calls and various emails, I finally review an email informing me a lamp was damaged, and the room smelled of smoke. I was go smacked. We didn’t use the lamp, nor does me or my partner smoke. I tried to fight my case and got nowhere. A further 4 day wait for a response only to get a rather abrupt and rude email saying they ‘trusted the housekeeper’. Stay well away.... the whole experience cost me close to £500 for a room that looks like my teenage son’s university dorm.

Booked for 4 nights for a family funeral , spent night 1 still awake at 4 am due to noise from the upstairs flat and the paper walls and floors ..the flat we were in was grubby but cheap !!! I accepted this ..after a complaint about upstairs noise ..we were moved to the upstairs flat next door , twice the standard , at no extra cost ...I suppose you get what you pay for ...note ...always book upstairs ... Staff were efficient and helpful . The bottom right flat as you look from the street ..is very tired and the live in neighbours upstairs are still bouncing around at 4 am on a school night ... A few ( shut the fk ups were offered ) Might have just caught upstairs on s bad night ? An honest review though
