Reviewed By therovingrouteThis hotel was located in the heart of Phong Nha. Rooms were newly renovated and come with a mini-fridge. If you ask the staff you can get a kettle for your room as well. They have a water jug that you can fill your bottles with in the main sitting room. Wifi was good, we only had 1 issue but after they unplugged and replugged it in, it worked fine. The front desk staff was great, speaks great English and told us tips on where to go. She also told us where we could buy a sim card in town. The hotel offered us free bicycles for our stay, which was an awesome bonus. They also have motorcycle rentals for a day around Phong Nha. Just make sure to test out anything you rent from them. Our motorcycle breaks were limited. Our bicycle breaks were also not the best. Breakfast was good, standard banana pancakes, fried eggs, and omelets. Make sure to ask for the Vietnamese drip coffee! We loved that they also gave us bananas with our breakfast. It was great to start our morning sitting by the pool overlooking the mountain cliff.

Every night we have different events from a big traditional Vietnamese style communal dinner, karaoke nights, movie nights or just hang out chatting with new friends around a fire out front. There will always be something fun to do at Van Anh Backpacker Hostel. We offer private or group tours to the famous Phong Nha caves. Or you can explore the most beautiful region in Vietnam on your own by renting a motorbike. Our extremely knowledgeable staff will explain to you everything you need to know (and provide a map). If you are already travelling by motorbike and are in need of repairs we can help make sure you end up at the best mechanic in town. Whatever your needs we've got you covered in fabulous Phong Nha!!

Reviewed By wcghmfTo say the owner was vile would be an understatement. I have honestly never had such an awful conversation with someone before. We called having made a simple mistake regarding our transport to and from the Dark Cave, which we didn't even realise we'd made until this phone call, which left me in tears. Offensive, abusive, threatening - the only way I can think of describing this conversation. He is honestly such a nasty man I would not recommend staying here as if you have any problem he will be of no service and probably make the situation worse. When he attempted to speak to us about in the evening before we left he refused to apologise for his behaviour as he violently threw a cigarette across the room. It's a shame because the other members of the staff were lovely and apologised for his behaviour. The only other bad side was the fact that when we arrived the water and AC didn't work and we did find some ants on the bed.

We have just opened for 4 month and we have just added 3 double rooms, very nice, with wooden ceilings,toiletries in the room include shower, air conditioner, hot water dispenser... All brand new facilities and friendly staff will satisfy you and your plus for our place is that we are on the riverside.With direct views of the river and mountains, you can watch the sunset in every direction.

The upstairs room was comfortable, the Wifi was good and there were some great views out to the river. The home-cooked evening meals and breakfast were good value. I would have no hesitation returning in the future.

The family who run the hotel is amazing, super friendly and the young girl speak a really good English. Our room was super clean, big and the view was the best!! We watched the sunset every day from our balcony with beers :-) The hotel is located in the main street, close to a lot of places for eat and for take the boat to Phong nha cave. Y really recommend this place!

Reviewed By Got2go2winMy plane was delayed. I called to tell them. They offered me a ride from the airport to the Hotel as it was 20 miles or more one way. Grateful surprise in deed ! I walked into the exit area and saw my name on the card being held by the driver. We drove to the Homestay.. Checked in really late but all went o.k. My room was just right with a private balcony overlooking the river.If you want tranquility and walking distance to town at a great rate with clean room and hospitality ,you won't be disappointed. My breakfast was extra charge and it was supposed to be included but it was so minimal I did not bother bringing it up. The hosts will arrange all your activities free and are very helpful to be aware of any issues concerning your choices.

Ho Khanh is a historic man who discovered Son Doong early in 1990s. And that's why we came for. Ho Khanh is always ready to spend hours with you, telling over and over his story how he found the cave Son Doong.

Reviewed By Daniel GLinh was extremely helpful, organizing taxis and helping us choose a tour. Her English is excellent and she got in touch before the trip to check everything was in order. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. The room was clean and they let us have a shower after a long day tour even though we had in theory already checked out.
