Potential…

Reviewed By daz909

I would say this place has potential… Firstly the good: 1. Inside, the decor was understated but clean, there was a nice ambience and overall a nice play to be. 2. Plenty of parking. 3. Friendly staff. 4. Location. 5. The ethos of the menu; especially given the name of the restaurant. Secondly, the not so good: 1. Service was slow; time taken to clean away plates was just too long. The customers next to us hadn’t had their mains and it turned out that they had actually been forgotten about. 2. Water was brought to the table and left sealed and un-poured. I have no issues pouring my own drinks but to be a great restaurant, it should really be getting these basics right. 3. Some staff seemed a little nervous and unsure. Although pleasant they didn’t seem comfortable around customers and weren’t sure about the “new menu”. 4. There were no appetisers or bread offered whilst you waited. Of course you could order some appetisers from the menu when it arrived but small appetisers/bread etc, compliments of the chef, always add to the premium feel of a restaurant. 5. The main was just okay. I’m not sure the beetroot and parsnips worked with the bream. 7. Booked a table online seeing that there was a garden. On arrival it transpired they don’t serve food outside. Very disappointed considering the weather. Overall, it was an okay evening. With some staff training and some fine tuning of the menu it could be great.

You could not find a better B and B. or more wonderful hosts!

My friend and I have just returned from a most wonderful stay at Riseden Bed and Breakfast in Maidstone. From the very start, after a warm welcome, we went to our room which was gorgeous. It was beautifully decorated; the bathroom was spacious, and all was spotlessly clean. Our hosts, Andy and Christine, couldn't have done more for us, and when it was my 60th birthday during our visit, a taxi could not be found to take us to our evening meal, Andy drove us to the restaurant and Christine arranged a return taxi. The breakfasts were superb, especially the homemade yoghurt, coulis and granola pots and Andy’s table service was a delight, along with his witty comments. Christine’s hostessing reflects her many years in the hospitality trade. Nothing was too much trouble for her. If there is a better B and B in Britain, I would like to know where it is! The whole stay was fantastic and I'm already missing it. If I'm ever in this area again Riseden will be my number one choice, anything else would be a disappointment. Thank you again Andy and Christine, you made our holiday! Kath

Very dissatisfied

Our family gave us vouchers for Leeds Castle as a Golden Wedding Anniversary gift and we stayed at The Maidens Tower for dinner bed and breakfast.Arrival started badly because a rude security person couldn't find our booking , however when we were finally allowed through the gate the reception staff were warm and welcoming. Our room was clean and comfortable with lovely views .The castle and grounds were spectacular and we enjoyed exploring .Dinner was booked for 7:15pm and on arrival we were warned that they had a tasting event and service would be slow , but we didn't mind as the food was gorgeous and it was nice not to feel rushed. However lots of other diners were complaining. We had pleasant evening and slept well .Next morning we enjoyed a stroll through the gardens then went for breakfast in the restaurant.Staff were very good we were given our hot drinks and orders taken for our choice of hot breakfast , we had a few bits from the buffet while we waited ...and waited ...and waited 45 minutes later we were still waiting .Staff were wandering about and people were waiting for ages , it all seemed a bit chaotic, then couple who came in after us were given their breakfast at which point I complained to the young woman who seemed to be in charge .She was very apologetic and said she would chase up our food and it was served shortly afterwards. My Eggs Royal was perfect with nicely poached eggs but my husband's Full English was terrible they had run out of hash browns the bacon was like cardboard and the poached egg yolk was rock hard .We were so disappointed and it very much spoiled our stay , bearing in mind the occasion. It is expensive to stay at the castle and the service we received was just not good enough for the price we paid .When we checked out we raised our concerns with a member of reception staff who apologised profusely and offered to call a manager but to be honest we so upset we just wanted to go .
