Great Location But Pedantic on Rules
Reviewed By PeteAKLWe choose Piya for its great location -central and views of the lake - and everything else came secondary to that. The place is dated but I don't mind if the basic creature comforts are covered. AC capacity was a bit small for the size of room so it took a while to cool down. Owner operated so they are always around and have an eye on you which can be a good thing but not if you prefer staff to be not seen nor heard until required. If you like resorts with pool bars to both dip and sip your piña colada then their pool won't fit your needs. Pool rules are posted everywhere and this pedantic aspect can be off-putting for those who are on holiday to relax and have common sense to know how to behave without having to be told.

Our management team is a family of Shan or Thaiyai who are the local people in this city. We have five rooms consisting of 3 bungalows and 2 standard twin/double rooms with a rotating fan. Our small guesthouse is perfectly located in the heart of the city and fully filled with all facilities. From our guest house to other tourist attractions in Mae Hong Son, it's easily accessible. The Burmese styles pagodas by the lake are just in a walking distance; not mention about the hill top temple where you can see it from our guesthouse. Also, our guesthouse's located close to all the best restaurants in town; say Salween River Restaurant, Fern Restaurant, and Coffee Morning. Once visit Mae Hong Son, please drop by and have a look at our rooms and location first.

Reviewed By robertolongWe spent two nights in a small brand new bungalow with all you need. The family owning the business is nice and friendly, as most of Thai people are. In the morning they serve you a simple breakfast on the small table of your balcony. You are close to the beautiful lake and temples where a night market takes place daily.

Rustic, could be romantic
Reviewed By Jenni LWe had a very difficult time finding this hotel because it does not have an English sign. Also, there are two other hotels in Mae Hong Son with the name Ban Kiangdoi in their hotel name. We asked several people and were sent a different direction each time. Finally, two people told us the address was 5 km south of the town center of Mae Hong Son. We clocked it on our odometer and arrived at a little crossroad of hotels and other buildings. We stopped to ask if we had the right place, and there, inside the reception area, was an English sign. We never would have found this place if we had arrived in the town after dark. At first we were told they were booked up and they couldn't find our reservation. We showed our booking ID, and they got on the phone. Initially, they wanted us to come to their business center, I think downtown somewhere, but eventually, they said they had a bungalow for us on the hill behind the hotel. On first view, it was very charming. Each bungalow has its own patio with a dining area. The rooms are rustic with rattan-weaved walls, teak beams, but there is a good-sized bathroom with warm water in the shower. However, the walls and corners are not sealed, and we quickly found we were battling mosquitoes at night and ants in the morning. There were 3 different types of ants marching through the room and environment, big black ants in the bed, little black ants marching back and forth across the bathtub, and fierce-looking red ants marching up the tree on the patio. I don't know if geckos eat ants. If they do, the geckos in our room were not doing their job. The bed was excruciatingly uncomfortable. It was hard and lumpy and really difficult for me to get to sleep and stay asleep. We were charged the equivalent of about $31 for the night and felt it was not good value for the money. The night before, we stayed in a hotel for about $12 for the night and battled spiders in that one. So for the extra money, we expected a little better. Still, all in all, we had a very pleasant time, enjoyed the mountain views, and got some great photos.

Better than average budget hotel

The air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and hot water all worked well. It was nice to have a reasonably priced mini-bar in the room. The hotel was fairly quiet, I was the only guest staying there on my second night ? Easy parking for folks who are touring the area by car. Although breakfast was included, it was just so-so, and I skipped it on day two. Overall a good choice for the price.

Reviewed By murrayvioletThe resort is located among massive forest. Very nice fresh air but many mozzies. The owner gave us mosquitos repellent. The breakfast was nice. The local restaurants made very yummy food. The room was perfect.
