Sommerville B&B

Awful experience

Reviewed By jessabells

We had booked here for 2 nights.. the moment we were shown our room we could see the dirt on the floor.. there was no where else available in the area so we had to stay the 1st night but left the next morning.. we could not use the shower in our room as it was broken.. we were shown another shower in a different room but it was not clean so we didn't use it either.. and this is all during covid 19 restrictions! I spoke to the owner about the situation when we were leaving - she did not accept our concerns. I raised my concerns with Faillte Ireland. I do not want anyone else to have the awful experience that we did. I would not recommend staying at this premises at all.

Expensive with an emphasis on fish

Reviewed By Bean_Limerick

Three of us ate here on a Saturday night. After phoning them several times on Saturday morning, and finding that the phone was going to voicemail, I eventually drove down to the hotel to book our table. I asked for a window table and they said they would do their best. When we arrived, in spite of the restaurant being completely empty, we were directed to a table that wasn't at a window. Following a chat with a member of staff, we were given a window table. There are two sittings and while we were in the restaurant it most definitely wasn't busy so I can't see why we had to request a window table for a second time. The menu is very limited with an emphasis on fish. The menu (which appears to change daily) stated that there was duck however this was changed to Lamb. We were told the soup was vegetable and then when we were about to order, we were told it was now parsnip and honey. My Mum had the John Dory which she found lovely. My husband had Sea Food Pie. The serving wasn't huge and he felt, that while it was nice, it certainly didn't merit the €22 price. I asked for a burger from the bar menu and the wait staff were gracious enough to agree to serving it, however it arrived without any chips. And I had to order them separately. However the chips were really nice, they had a proper potato taste and were the nicest chips I've eaten in a long time. There was a door behind us leading out to a conservatory type area. After the people using it had left, I closed the door, as there was a huge draft blowing on me. Three times I got up and closed it in front of staff and three times staff went and opened it again. Eventually when a member of staff came over to ask if our meal was OK I mentioned the door and it was then closed. The dessert menu comprised Apple Pie, Profiteroles or Mixed Berry pavlova and the cost was €7 per serving. The food was lovely and the staff were very pleasant and helpful at all times. However on cost and range basis, I would not be back in a rush.

The Beach Guesthouse

Fantastic stay in Dunmore East

Reviewed By OcalaTraveler2011

I think this place is terrific! On the day we arrived, John checked us in and showed us to our room. We were on the second floor with a great view of the water. The room was large, clean and had everything we needed. We asked John for a recommendation for dinner and without hesitation he recommended The Spinnaker, a hundred years away. It was an excellent suggestion. We both got a good night's sleep and had an excellent full Irish breakfast in the bright, cheery dining room. John who is definitely a character, served us and kidded with us. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and we enjoyed John's sense of humor.

Disappointing

Reviewed By californiahistorian

I had hoped to stay at the Inn but it was booked so stayed at the Townhouse. We had two triple rooms, one facing the street and the other facing the back. The room in the back overlooked a large full of garbage cans and there was an engine running all night and some sort of construction. The rooms and bathrooms were small. The mattresses were horrible and the room needed to be updated. We were entertained with three baby seagulls living on the roof outside our window.
