Wonderful return trip to excellent resort. The grounds and views are breathtaking. Although the hotel is old, the rooms and grounds are well taken care of. It is actually environmentally conscious to only fix what is needed. I hope the renovations which are planned will maintain the understated luxury character of the hotel. The staff will go out of their way to make you comfortable and recognize and value you as a return guest.. From the bell staff on arrival, to the front desk, to the waiters at breakfast to the beach attendants. Special mention to Kostas from the concierge desk who really wants all his guests to have the best experience and Dora who works tirelessly to make sure all her guests have the room of their choice. Good very comfortable luxury collection bed and bedding, nice and plentiful bathroom amenities including hygiene wipes! Very generous with towels (even at the beach they never run out!) but will respect of you want to reuse. Two options for breakfast. We always used the buffet restaurant with endless options from meats to fish to cheeses and spreads, fresh fruits and vegetables and eggs made to order. Great selection of restaurants.. The only draw back is the good size gym, which has while functional but very old and somewhat limited equipment. Can't wait for our return trip.

Lovely relaxing holiday in a beautiful setting

Reviewed By Michelle B

We have just got back from 2 weeks at this hotel and came back truly relaxed and rested. This is a lovely hotel and the staff really do all they can to make your holiday special particularly under the circumstances. I say this as they are obviously understaffed which is not their fault but you can see how hard working they all are, particularly in the main restaurant where a special mention goes to Christina and all her team that are just so lovely and friendly. My husband and I like to keep a bit active on holiday too and there are regular 30 minute classes you can attend through the day to keep you fit if you like, or relax with a bit of yoga maybe. I cannot praise Lisa enough! She is brilliant, her classes are fun and we were all great friends by the end of the 2 weeks. The TUI team, particularly Lisa and Sophie, are always happy and upbeat which can't be easy at times in their jobs but they are always ready with a smile and the banter at Aquafit was hilarious, that class is a must if you want a laugh in the morning. As far as the rooms were concerned, our first room was not great, very dated and overlooking the bar outdoor area but we spoke to a very helpful gentleman on reception (sorry, I can't remember your name!) and he was also excellent and acted quickly to move us to another room that had recently been renovated and was just lovely so a big thank you for that. We the also went into Agios Nikolaos, Elounda, Plaka and Spinalonga - all a must for your trip, and all people we encountered were just so friendly and helpful. Everyone seems to be locally born and bred and we learnt they haven't had a police station in Elounda for 27 years as there is never any crime! All the towns are so beautiful so it is good to venture out if you can. Like the other reviews say, it is 15 euros to Agios Nikolaos or 9 euros to Elounda so very reasonable. You can walk to Elounda from the hotel but the road is a bit hairy in some places. The rep's do a walk too so you can do that to get your bearings. Our first week was quite quiet at the hotel but then a lot busier in the second week but we were always able to get a sunbed so this wasn't a problem. You can change your beach towels as much as you like too at the beach bar. The Greek night was such fun and we attended this on both the Thursdays we were there, a lovely outdoor buffet and the gyros was lovely! The dancing is fun too if you don't mind getting up! The food generally is very good in the buffet and the 2 other restaurants, all very fresh and so much choice in the buffet, it really is good for all inclusive. I really can't recommend this hotel enough, the staff do make it though, we thoroughly enjoyed our 2 weeks and didn't want to leave!

We visited this hotel at end of May until the beginning of June. The hotel has a very scenic view and is situated in a bay with the finest sand. The food is very delicious and we had something different every day. The hotel offers different variety of activities and we especially really had such a great time with the animators who do such an amazing job to keep the visitors entertained. A special big thanks to Fabrizio, Stephanie, Giovanni , Anna and Nikola. Our son Noah, loved loved the mini disco and will talk about it for a very long time. I would definitely recommend this hotel especially for families with small children ?.

We enjoyed this hotel, it looks great, the rooms are spacious and well cared for, they come every day to clean and change the towels. The various swimming pools are excellent, there is also a lot to do for children. The hotel is within walking distance of Sitea where you can shop or eat at one of the restaurants. The hotel is situated east of Crete with very beautiful nature where you can make day trips. The hotel is very nice for couples or families with children, no noise in the evening just enjoy the bar with various (local) cocktails. The food is varied every day, with many choices, and nice and warm. In short, a fantastic hotel, nice and well located, good food and drinks where you are embraced by the Greek hospitality.

Tips for Ostria resort

Reviewed By Jos V

In this resort (no hotel, and for some reason French-oriented) the 'animation' team is overly active. To such an extent, that guests who prefer rest and repose are overruled: even the most remote sections of the beach are not safe from loud music. At one event, pounding disco lasted until deep into the night, disturbing our sleep. Animation also affects dinner, for you are denied your (excellent) buffet during the weekly 'gala' (other restaurants are no decent alternative). The resort has many facilities and is not stingy, but wifi and the tv connection are wanting - for several days there was no wifi at all. On arrival, our special wishes (quite room, first floor) were not granted, for we were housed on the ground floor between three pools, with a view facing a wall. Complaining did help, but it took almost a whole vacation day away - very awkward. Don't let yourself be deceived by photographs of advertisments, for these are views of specific (more expensive) rooms.

Not a 5* hotel or Service

Reviewed By E1010WRryanh

You really only need to look at the responses to reviews from the management team to understand how this hotel is run and managed. Positives are an amazing location, and beautiful views. Beach and close enough to other towns that you can get a cab. Staff that are there are hard working and helpful. I'm not sure where to start on the hotel though. This is no longer a 5* hotel, the reviews, pictures are very misleading. The grounds and rooms are run down and don't appear to have been restored and cleaned since the re-opening (we stayed in a Superior Room, Sea View Balcony which by the looks of the Hotels responses we do not have enough money to stay at this hotel because we should of payed for a better one). So if you're not buying a Suite or something better you're not getting a good standard of room. View was amazing though. The food. The buffet was very disappointing and underwhelming, almost a first come first served style as if you turned up later than 8 for dinner it was slim pickings and the same at Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Choices were ok but only half the food was labelled. Because they're heavily understaffed getting a drink within the "all inclusive" model was painful and most nights we would only have 1 drink with food as there was no waiters tending tables. We gave up after 4 visits to the buffet and found alternatives outside the hotel. The al a carte options available were varied BUT they use a voucher/coupon system, we were given 3 vouchers but the restaurants were apparently already at capacity until our last night so we weren't even able to use them. You had to get in a queue at 10:30am to book the restaurants which took an hour so I can't tell you how good or bad they are. What I can say is that when we turned up for the buffet at 8:30 there was plenty of space in these restaurants. In a 5* hotel I would not be expecting limitations like this and such a poorly executed system of vouchers where you can't even go to the restaurants anyway! This was one of the reasons we booked. I would understand only being able to go to each one once even but we could not even do this. We did do the "village experience" which was one of the options and although food was good this was off-site in the local village of Milatos, we had to share tables and food and didn't even have a menu, we were only allocated 1 drink each after that you had to pay (all inclusive). Would not recommend, I'd just go and visit Milatos and enjoy your meal in the ordinary fashion, great idea but again poorly executed. The Bars. Again understaffed, you are queuing for everything, you only get free drinks until 23:00 and then you have to pay for it in this all inclusive 5* experience, not much entertainment laid on either. We stopped going to the bars on day 3 of 7 and just went out in the evening to Milatos, Sissi and Malia. But this obviously means taxi fares etc. The pools, general maintenance and cleanliness of the hotel were again poor, talking to other guests we were hearing some very interesting stories, again you can see a lot of this in other reviews. Some of the recent 5* reviews I'm reading are either fake or have been paid to do so or they've never been on a 5* all inclusive holiday before. We have seen they partnered with an agency who flew in some Instagram influencers. So if you have loads of social media followers then you will probably have a fantastic stay. We spoke to a lot of guests that had the same feeling as us, it gave the guests a lot to talk about for the wrong reasons. The management seemed to shrug off complaints talking about how good value the rooms and what people had paid to be there but that's not how these things work. The lack of care and accountability was shocking. You can see this in the responses. We were very disappointed overall, I will not be returning to this hotel and would not recommend it unless you are looking for an expensive bed and breakfast and are planning to skip breakfast or if you have a passion for queuing. If you have already booked then I hope it's gets better as there were people there looking in to the issues and trying to change this, the last day there seemed to be more staff but I can only comment on the 7 days I spent in the hotel - again just read the responses to reviews. If it still hasn't improved, I would recommend; No Name Bar in Milatos which is only a 10 minute walk from the beach where George and his team were fantastic at Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Drinks and any of the fish Restaurants. Sissi has plenty of great restaurants and bars which the hotel offers a transfer too and from and Malia old town - any restaurant is fantastic.

Amazing place

This was our first time to Crete and a few reviews in here made me a little apprehensive but absolutely no reason to doubt this fantastic hotel. We arrived late due to issues at Gatwick, we had water in our room and wraps in the fridge to eat. The rooms were clean and tidy. Beds were very comfortable. Bathroom had towels to use in the room and by the pool/beach. These were changed frequently. Essentials in the bathroom and a hairdryer. Water added to the fridge daily. Air conditioning was lovely in the room too. Beautiful sea views. The pool sunbeds were new and comfortable and nicely placed around the pool with umbrellas. The pool bar had two brilliant ladies serving and always happy to help and smiling. The toilets by the pool aren't the best but thats to be partly expected with wet swimmers using them frequently. They were cleaned and checked regularly. The crepe shop has the most fantastic person in the hotel working in there. She's lovely. And the pancakes and waffles are a must! The access to the beach is brilliant, allowing you to avoid the road. My family did two activities on the beach, jet ski and boat ride. Both were thoroughly enjoyed. I could not find anything wrong with our holiday here. We went before the half term for 10days and wished we could have stayed longer. It was very quiet on arrival but our last 3 days we noticed the increase in people. The food in all 3 restaurants were lovely. The main restaurant does get busy in peak times but there's always food available. The bar staff on the 3rd floor are brilliant characters. My only criticism is that the sports court should be available for teenagers to have a kick about with a football or basketballas there's a hoop. You can pay to hire the bats and balls to use it but its very costly which put us off. Also the only pool table is in the children's games room that cost 2 euros a game. We all had the most amazing holiday. Thank you to all the hard working staff at the blue marine hotel and spa
