Tews Falls

Reviewed By Orestes P - Toronto, Canada

We visited this waterfall after Webster's Falls. Shuttle buses will pick you up at Webster's and drop you at Tew's fall. Fortunately the place was not crowded when we went and you were able to see the fall very well. I recommend you then continue the trail to Dundas peak. The best time to visit these places is during the fall so you can see a wonderful view of the trees with yellow, red and orange leaves. Go to Christie Lake after now that far when you finish. Entrance is free there if you keep your wristband.

Spencer Gorge Conservation Area

Reviewed By Jason P - Lansing, Michigan

Spencer Gorge Conservation Area contains Tews Falls, Webster Falls, and a hike to Dundas Peak. Even in late August, Webster Falls had very good flow and is definitely worth seeing. Tews Falls had a very pretty setting but the flow was pretty low in late summer.
In order to manage the large amounts of people that come here in the summer, on the weekends, they have a remote parking area and a bus shuttle system that connects you from the parking area to the Webster Falls area, then, to the Tews Falls/Dundas Peak area, and finally back to the parking area.
The parking fee is $10/car and includes the use of the shuttle system. We found this parking fee to be reasonable and the shuttle system to be very efficient. Maybe we got lucky but we never had to wait more than a couple of minutes for a bus.
What we found unreasonable was the additional $5/person charge on top of the parking/shuttle fee. I just went with my wife but I felt bad for families trying to visit. If you have a family of five, for example, you will be paying $35 ($10 + $25) to see the conservation area. This is a rip off and the people who manage this area should be ashamed of themselves. Why isn't there a family rate or a reduced admission charge for children? I am not a Canadian but it is my understanding that part of the Mission of the Ontario Conservation Areas is to expose children to the outdoors. I guess for this area they are only attempting to reach children who live with wealthy parents.
Also disappointing was the lack of trails around the Waterfalls. As others have mentioned, you can't even walk the trail between Webster and Tews Falls as that has been closed. Most of the overlooks on Webster Falls are overgrown with foilage that need to be cut back. Don't understand either why a trail cannot be built from the overlooks to the bottom of Webster and Tews Falls. You can tell people are ignoring the fences and bushwacking their own trails, so why not just make one official trail to the bottom, so people don't feel like criminals, if they want to hike around?
Overall, this is a beautiful area but the people who run this area are really doing a poor job.

Christie Lake Conservation Area

Reviewed By Louise D - Stoney Creek, Canada

Today we visited Christie Conservation Area as my grandson was participating in a cross country run with the Hamilton school board. The park is lovely...especially at this time of year with the leaves beginning to change. There is a snack bar and washroom facilities located in the centre of the park. The lake is a great place to paddle a canoe around ( did this on a previous visit ) The grounds are well kept. There is a picnic pavilion and tables scattered throughout as well. There seemed to be a number of trails going off in different directions. There is plenty of parking available. It is a great place to spend the day.

Carnegie Gallery

Reviewed By TravelAgentCynthia - Dundas, Canada

The Carnegie Gallery offers a welcoming display of art created mostly by local artists. A host of art genres are represented and the collections are rotated on a routine basis. The staff/volunteers are very knowledgeable and helpful with answering any of your questions. The Gallery often features a specific artist and will present a collection of their work. The cost of purchasing any of the pieces in the gallery is clearly labelled for your reference.
I wander through the Gallery often and always find new and interesting creations to admire.

Dyment's Farm

Dyment`s Farm is located on one of the highest, most scenic locations along the very edge of the Niagara Escarpment overlooking Dundas, Hamilton and beyond - it is a magical place to visit. The farm is an unforgettable setting for life`s big events, holding weddings and other celebrations from May - October. Our farm market is open year round selling fresh foods such as our pies and butter tarts, our tender steaks, or our colourful fruits and vegetables. The farm is open to the public on weekends during the month of October for fall activities and pick-your-own-pumpkin. Glen Drummond Farm was purchased in 1887. Since then five generations of Dyments have called this spectacular property home.

The food was excellent and the people were friendly. There were some issues, thankfully unknown to the guests which was good. but.......
The ceremony was to be held at the cliff but tractor lane was too wet for the rehearsal which made it extremely difficult to know what to do for the actual ceremony. Solution to this is put some gravel on the lane, very easy fix, then the tractor can drive up anytime.
If you want to have your wedding here ask a lot of questions. Can you take pictures where you want and not be dictated to certain areas (they do not allow any personal creativity or originality for picture taking), is it REALLY wheelchair accessible, will they be ready for you, will they have everything clean for the rehearsal (toilets, eating areas), how long will the poutine truck be open for, can people go up for seconds at the meal, can you pick up your decor and things the next day, will they let you park at the site or tell you not to do this and not to do that?

Dundas Museum & Archives

Dundas is a community tucked beneath the Niagara Escarpment in southern Ontario, Canada. It became incorporated as a town on July 28, 1847. Dundas today, with its picturesque downtown, heritage homes and tree lined streets, still echoes that time. Informative, and fun! At the Dundas Museum & Archives, discover Dundas from the time of the glaciers' slow carving of the valley through to today's vibrant community. The experiences and impact of individuals along the way come alive through objects used in their every day lives. We invite you to visit and explore the stories of people and events that have shaped the Valley Town.

Reviewed By TKoTP - Hamilton

The Dundas Museum and Archive has two small galleries that show paintings by local artists or of local interest. There is often a small (24 or so) special exhibit. Since there is not admission charge you can drop in for 25-30, see a few very nice paintings and carry on with your day exploring Dundas.
Yes it is a small building on a side street so you do have to go looking for it on purpose, but it is surely worth the trouble.

My husband and I always search out flea markets where ever we travel.
We are from Sask and were very happy with Mizener's.
The weather was sunny and warm for November 29. How we love walking into buildings jammed full of items to snoop thru.
We both found small items to put in our checked luggage but the fun was looking!
Prices were not bad on most items.
Will return on our next visit.

Borer's Falls Conservation Area

Reviewed By KathleenR_28 - Port Dover, Canada

I have led countless hikes in southwestern Ontario and the Hamilton area is one of my favorite areas, not only because of the changing terrain but also the many Waterfalls. I start the hikes from the parking area at Rock Chapel Road. May is a good month to explore this area, as one will see all types of spring flowers popping up from the ground.
The few times I've seen Borer's Falls (mostly in the summer), the water flow has not been that great but it is still worth seeing. The trail itself is good ... you start on flat and as you go farther out into Cootes Paradise or Royal Botanical Gardens, the terrain gets slightly hilly.
A word about parking: make sure you have enough change to pay for parking. On our way back, there was a parking attendant who had issued tickets to my friends.
