Nkasa Rupara National Park

We stayed at Jackalberry Camp, four “ tents” at the remote southern end of the park. The safaris, morning, afternoon, and river, were conducted by Robson, who did a magnificent job. Cheetah, hippo, elephant, many varieties of antelope etc. The biggest surprise was seeing dozens of pelicans! The camp was excellent, well run, good food, and an elephant munching on the branches above the tent at 2am one morning! He was standing up against the main picture window of the tent, and even sniffed us through the screen! You do need a 4x4 to drive yourself to the camp, but you can leave your vehicle in town and they will pick you up. Very few people in the park.

Buffalo Core Area

Buffalo Core Are is one of the areas of the Bwabwata N.P. we enjoyed the most. We drove in for a day trip and what makes it such a good experience is that one can drive next to the river from beginning to end. Especially for bird lovers this is a great area as there are many water birds next to the river. Most animals congregate close to the river during winter time and we had excellent sightings of buffalo and elephant, a lot of different antelope and hippo and crocodiles. The park is very scenic with a large variety of large trees. Certainly worth another visit soon.

Ran into Mashi Crafts while camping at Mukolo Bush Camp. What a delightful experiance. Crafts are of excellent quality and reasobably priced. You can support the Caprivi community by purchasing an authentic souvenir or 2. The souvenirs are not necessarily dust collectors but can be put to good practical use! It is well worth your time not to miss out popping in for a fine woven basket, place mats, wood carvings, etc. As a bonus, refreshments and neat toilets are also available. Make sure you stop there when passing by.
