Reopen from Friday 30th March 2018. Located in the vibrant village of Alford, just 45 minutes from Aberdeen, the museum boasts an impressive range of transport exhibits, from travelling chariots, of the 1800's, to some of the fastest cars ever made. Every season the museum refreshes around one third of its exhibits –this year’s exhibition includes ‘The Guy Martin Collection’ and ‘It’s Electric’ which gives an in depth look at the past, present and future of electric vehicles. A few old favourites remain, including our MACK Snowplough, Billy Connolly’s Boom Lowrider motortrike and one of our Curator’s favourites, the ex-Grampian Police Rover SD1 Vitesse. Our Tea Room is also open daily and serves and array of hot drinks, light lunches and snacks. We have our very own Junior Driving School - a fun and educational introduction to road safety and driving for children aged 4 to 10 year old. I do like a good museum and this was definitely a good museum! We had been given a voucher to visit several museums in the area when we visited the lighthouse museum so went out of our way to find this one. So glad we did. Easy to park, arrived right on 10am when it opened and were warmly welcomed. iPad tour was given to husband which he really enjoyed dipping in to. I prefer just to read things as I wander round so we were both well catered for. Surprises round every corner. Billy Connelly's caravan being my favourite. A very interesting display about Shaw and cats eyes. Cafe very reasonable. Good coffee. Clean toilets. Best of all friendly and knowledgable volunteers who willingly chatted to visitors. Stayed longer than expected. Interesting shop too. Oh but I nearly forgot the pipe organ. Amazing. Ask a member of staff to hear it.

17th-century castle owned by the same family for over 350 years. Open April to September; access is by guided tours only. There are steep spiral stairs to the upper floors. A stunning castle in a wonderful setting, said to be the inspiration for Disney's Castles.

Although the castle was closed when we visited, it is worth noting that the road to the castle is kept open in the close season, as is the car park, so I assume that they get visitors to do the woodland walks etc.
We came simply to see the castle, and it really is a truly lovely building. It almost looks too twee to be true, and it is important to realise that Craigievar, one of Scotland's best preserved Castles, is the real deal and was originally built as a genuine fortification.

Kildrummy Castle Gardens are listed in the book, 1001 Gardens to See Before You Die. I highly recommend you do. The garden is breathtaking in its simplicity and construction reflecting natural and Man enhanced beauty. Added attractions are the birdlife and the red squirrels. It is built in an old quarry and the ruins of the castle hover above the green and colourful Gardens, water and shrub bank below. Well worth the visit. The coffee is outstanding too!

Confusing signage for the castle and the castle Gardens which are two separate sites.
Large car park with toilets,small visitors centre with knowledgeable custodian and then a long uphill walk to the castle.
The castle is just ruins so no ramparts to climb on for high views and it doesn't take long to walk around the site.
It did play its part in the Wars of Independence and troops gathered here prior to the 1715 rebellion.

Alford has been a cattle farming community for ages. The Heritage Museum, a little way off the main street gives an insight to the background and the past of this unspoiled North East Scottish community.

An exciting Soft Play area and Cafe for children. We have a seperate area for babies, toddlers and juniors. The Time Cafe will serve fresh Coffee, homebakes and for light lunches we will offer fresh daily soups, sandwiches and Pizza's - with our Specials board changing regularly so your experience will be different each time you come. Its very relaxed and you will feel that you have gone to your friends for a cuppa.

A small soft play area and cafe, very well run with plenty staff, my only concern was the floor tiles throughout was a bit worried about children running round with only socks on might slip and hurt themselves, also great play area but wouldn't want to visit if it was really busy, cafe was very good with plenty choice for children, only reason I didn't rate this place higher was the vending machines a children's play area should not have these, I saw several kids being dragged away from them including my own.

The kids love this train. If your staying at Haughton House Holiday Park, this is a great way to go back and forth into Alford. I would recommend getting an annual or weekly pass as it works out a lot cheaper.

Great day out with the grandkids, aged 4 to 12. They all enjoyed themselves. Facility is excellent, with a lift to the slope. Must go again sometime.

Everlongart Studio and Gift Shop is a small shop bursting full of the best talent in the area, if you are looking for a unique handmade gift this is your one stop shop. This shop is run by an Artist selling makes on behalf of other artists/crafters/makers from Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.

This treasure trove of a shop is owned and run by Jodie. She is very welcoming and nothing seems to be too much trouble.
There's always something different each time we go in. Nice to see Jodie supporting local crafts in the shop with something for every budget.
Can always find a present in here...a very welcome addition to Alford indeed!!
