Bayreuth (German pronunciation: [baɪˈʁɔʏt] ( listen); Upper Franconian: [ba(ː)ˈɾaɪ̯t]) (Bavarian: Bayreith) is a medium-sized town in northern Bavaria, Germany, on the Red Main river in a valley between the Franconian Jura and the Fichtelgebirge Mountains. The town's roots date back to 1194. In the early 21st century, it is the capital of Upper Franconia and has a population of 72,148 (2015). It is world-famous for its annual Bayreuth Festival, at which performances of operas by the 19th-century German composer Richard Wagner are presented.

The material of the collection is presented in the ground floor rooms of the small building, where the composer has spent the last part of his life. Altough acquainted with his art and playing his pieces myself, the surprisingly detailed personal side of his life story astonished me. It is a must for piano enthusiasts when in Bayreuth. For young (and old) visitors, a so-called Piano Hero is available to test their skills just like in Guitar Hero. Simply cool.

Das Kunstmuseum Bayreuth wurde 1999 im Alten Barockrathaus der Stadt eröffnet. Es beherbergt verschiedene Sammlungen moderner Kunst und zeigt wechselnde Ausstellungen. Ein umfangreiches Vermittlungsprogramm mit Führungen und Kunstkursen rundet das Programm ab. Die Website informiert auch über das aktuelle Vermittlungsangebot des Kunstmuseums. Das Kunstmuseum Bayreuth hat es sich zum Ziel gesetzt, eine der ersten barrierefreien Kultureinrichtungen der Stadt Bayreuth zu sein.
