Coleraine (/koʊlˈreɪn/; from Irish Cúil Rathain, meaning 'nook of the ferns' [kuːlʲ ˈɾˠahɪnʲ]) is a large town and civil parish near the mouth of the River Bann in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. It is 55 miles (88.5 km) northwest of Belfast and 30 miles (48.3 km) east of Derry, both of which are linked by major roads and railway connections. It is part of Causeway Coast and Glens district.

Open, during term-time, from 2pm Monday to Thursday and from 12pm on Fridays.Open, during holiday periods & weekends, from 10am. Last admissions at 18:30 unless we have a Private Hire. Please check before leaving home. There's a specific area for up to 12mths, a 1 - 4 area and a 5 - 12 years area. We have free parking, baby changing facilities, a coffee shop and baby food/bottle warming facilities. Toddler morning is on term time Mondays at 9.15am and includes elevenses of toast and juice.

Brilliant fun for children. What to do when the weather's not good enough to play outside or your child needs focused play with lots of interaction? Alleycats is the place to go. One and a half hour session was just about the right length of time: lots of different activities, well run and super-clean!

Bring my granddaughters on a wet day .. not too big .. you can usually see them when checking them so less stress .. great little cafe .. usual kids meals and I usually have the hot chicken and bacon salad .. delicious ..... Highly recommended......

Coleraine, Portstewart and Portrush Libraries serve the area known as the Triangle - as in dots linking the three towns on the beautiful Northern coast of Northern Ireland. I have had two special reasons to thank the staff for their unstinting friendly and efficient support. After a gap of many years (I'm 72), I decided to return to university to study music full-time. The inter-library loan system via the internet was invaluable, supplemented by email messages when the books/journals arrived. Secondly. I'm a longstanding member of Causeway U3A book club, and the Portstewart branch lets us know when the group copies of the book of the month have arrived. I also enjoy the chats with the library staff about the particular books I'm Reading - they are avid readers too and very insightful! My one concern is that the three Libraries may be under pressure because of cutbacks in public expenditure. Even though they are very positive in offering a diversity of services from childrens' corner sessions to the U3A for senior citizens, I fear they may suffer diminishing of their services. So please support your local library - if you lose it, you may never be able to recover it!
Finally, whether you are local or a visitor, please make contact with any of the three Triangle Libraries, Coleraine, Portstewart or Portrush. You will be guaranteed a warm welcome, wise advice and that nice feeling that you have learnt a bit! You may even leave with a brilliant page-turner of a book!

We are so lucky here with the availability of places to enjoy walking. Try the one through Mountsandel Forest and enjoy the view from the Norman Motte across the valley and along the River Bann. Lovely in all seasons. Castleroe Forest several walks here and all very enjoyable. Walking along the river between the old Bridge and the Cutts. Opportunity to see lots of wildlife including cormorants, swans, ducks, squirrels, and occasionally harbour seals. Any of the local Beaches but I love Benone. Lovely beach to collect shells. or try any of our B class roads and enjoy looking at what is growing in the hedgerows, bird life, farming activities and animals or just enjoy the views and being out in the fresh air. I live locally and enjoy walks all year round. Other walks include walking from Portstewart Promenade along the cliff walk to Portstewart Strand and Back The more energetic may wish to walk along the beach to the Barmouth (mouth of the river Bann ) Or perhaps you would prefer to go to Ballintoy harbour and walk along the coast to Whitepark Bay.

This Information Centre is now located in the old Town Hall - a big improvement on its previous location.
I was enquiring about fishing on the North Coast and the 2 ladies on duty went to some lengths to get me comprehensive information.
On the minus side - whilst there are toilets in the building, these are not available to the visiting public. Also, I think the signage outside the door and elsewhere in the town could be more prominent.

A bustling, local food and craft market held in Coleraine Town Centre on the 2nd Saturday of each month, 9am to 4pm. It is Northern Ireland’s largest regular outdoor market with over 50 stalls. Take time to visit the array of food stalls with: meats including goat, quail, venison, pork & bacon, buffalo, Dexter beef and local chorizo; fish both fresh and smoked; curry sauces; oils; relishes; olives; fresh pasta; sheep’s cheese; jams; chutneys; teas, coffees, artisan breads and local vegetables. For those with a sweet tooth, we've a wide variety available; cakes, cookies, meringues, cup-cakes, traybakes, marshmallows, waffles and sticky toffee puddings. The market runs every second Saturday of each month throughout the year, and holds extra sessions at peak holiday times (see local information).
There are usually lots of artisan food producers from the north west area, but also a few based as far away as Belfast. Local and regional crafts are also represented.
We usually make a point of visiting it if our visit coincides with a market day.

Just came across a fantastic quality new indoor 5 a side football centre. It is open to both children and adults 7 days per week. 6 high quality artificial grass pitches, most are 4G and one is Astroturf. I found they had a really comfortable playing surface. Lighting is also superb and whatever the weather outside its available. One pitch is 7 a side or hire for tennis or hockey. Lovely little café serving light snacks and drinks all day and evening. Free wi-fi. Opens 9am to 11pm except Sunday opens 1pm - 6pm. Saturday 9am-6pm. In July and August they also run summer Camps for kids. They are starting leagues for all ages. A kids birthday party room is another feature.

We share the rich history and culture of the Coleraine area, including music and language, through displays of historical items relating to the Loyal Orders, Ulster Scots, and World War 1. A historical walking tour of the town can be arranged on request. Tea/coffee available.

I took my grandson to see the exhibition in the cultural centre and was really impressed. The volunteers who run the centre are very passionate about getting the public interested in the exhibits and historical references. I was told that they would be more than willing to help me research for family members who had served in the war.
I learned enough from the exhibition to want me to find out more. I will definitely be back and am trying to encourage others to visit.
