Great place

Reviewed By thereseaj2015

The best thing about the Chateau Tongariro is defintely the staff: front reception, housekeeping and lounge, dining and piano player. All set in the old world of 1920s decor. The food was fantastic. The decor needs refurbishing in keeping with the current charm. All set in the peaceful environment of Tongariro park.

Unexpected gem of a place. Right on the track to Tama lakes so doesn't get much handier if you are doing this walk. Staff were really helpful and friendly. Room was small but immaculately clean and very cozy. Great value weekend away. Bar was great too with undoubtedly one of the best views in New Zealand.

Amazing, clean and friendly stay - great food.

Piper's Lodge is fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay there. The whole lodge was spotless and I found it very comforting to be staying in such a clean place. The food was absolutely delectable, the servings were generous and there was a great variety in what was served. The staff were some of the most friendly people ever, they were very happy to help with anything and in general put their all into making sure that visitors were happy and comfortable. I would 100% recommend Piper's Lodge to anyone wanting to stay in the TVC area.

Disappointing customer service

Reviewed By BrunoMuzo

After booking to stay at Alpine Chalets a few weeks ago,we got shockingly disappointed when they cancelled our booking 48hours before our trip. Cancellation can be understandable but the manner in which they failed to communicate is appalling.Initially we booked for 2 adults and a baby via their website and it went through successfully. We called to discuss arrangements for our baby at which time they said they dont accept under 2 year old children. But because we had made the booking already, they promised to honour the booking via email. Yesterday suddenly they decided to cancel our booking over fears our baby would disturb other guests. This threw our plans into disarray as accommodation is very hard to find during school holidays coupled with the Covid situation. Why did they not reject the booking in the first place and mislead us over email when they were clearly given the babys age? Why did they wait for 48hours before we travel to Tongariro to cancel the booking They are clearly not professional and need better customer service and communication skills. Not impressed

Nice place to stay a year round

Reviewed By vjhandley

We stayed here for 2 nights with 2 adults and 3 kids. It was a 2 bedroom unit. Parking provided. The unit gets quite warm with the large glass windows and the air con is downstairs which I guess works well in winter time. Most things provided, few things in kitchen could be better provided for. Shower too small! One rubbish bin had not been emptied.
