The 7 Best Nature & Parks in Crans-Montana, Swiss Alps

June 7, 2021 Stefan Strunk

Crans-Montana actually comprises two ski resorts, Crans-sur-Sierre and Montana-Vermala, although for all intents and purposes, they function as one. Popular with affluent Italians, the skiing is good (best for beginners and intermediates), but the shopping, eating and drinking are even better. The resort claims to be on the sunniest plateau in the Alps, and indeed the snow is often lacking, but the views over the Rh™ne are superb. Every September, the resort hosts the European Masters golf tournament.

Bisse du Ro

Reviewed By Nelly59CR

I walked the Bisse du Ro a few times when I was in Crans Montana for a week in September. There has clearly been a lot of effort invested into the trail and it is very well maintained, as it needs to be given where it goes. If heights make you uncomfortable, this is probably not the trail for you. However, when I was there only one part of the trail was along a section with a large drop and no safety rail (you hold on to a rope attached to a cliff face - I've attached a photo of this section), and even on that bit they're in the process of building a suspension bridge to circumvent that section. The part of the trail that runs alongside the water course (so basically the bit from Crans Montana) is, by necessity, quite flat so you don't need to be particularly fit to walk that section, although there are a couple of bits that go under low rocky outcrops, so you'd need to be fit enough to duck to a level of about three feet or so. Much of the trail is along walkways suspended on a vertical cliff face. The walkway is wide enough that two people can pass each other without too much difficulty, but it would still be a bit of a palaver if it was very busy (which it wasn't when I was there in September). After a mile or so, at the end of the water course, the flat bit ends and the trail becomes more of a standard mountain trail, which I followed all the way to the dam (and back). Basically it's a pretty easy walk with stunning views.

This little lake has crystal clear waters and a lot of fish, that’s why you might find fishermen on its banks. On the first of August it is traditionally used for the fireworks and water show!

Crans-Montana Ski Resort

Reviewed By AFV66

A very good place to ski for family whether you are a beginner or experienced skier. The ski domain is quite large and slopes are wide enough to avoid any harmful encounter with other skiers. When there in early February, we did not have to wait for the lifts, except once when most lifts were closed because of the weather. The exposure to the south gives you the opportunity to ski in plain view of most of the 4000 peaks of the Swiss alps. Crans-Montana offers a variety of options for cross-country skiing, ski de randonnee, walkers with or without raquettes. Ski slopes are not too difficult and give you the opportunity to perfect your style, although there a couple of snow parks where snow boarders could enjoy the most extreme thrill.
