Magical place

We booked at the campsite but got a free upgrade to the lodge, which was just fabulous! Huge clean room with balcony with a view on the desert, equipped with fridge and nicely decorated. Extra comfy beds. I particularly enjoyed the setting of the lodge , in the heart of the Namib desert , convenient for visiting Sossusvlei. I loved having breakfast or dinner in the porch, watching oryx and springboks coming for a visit... this is also a magical place to admire the starry sky , engulfed by the silence of the desert, relaxing in the swimming pool...the only sound we would hear was the singing of birds , there are plenty of them , don’t forget to have a look at their magnificent, huge nests on the nearby trees . Food was simply delicious and the staff kind and helpful.. one evening cooks and waiters even performed a nice show for the guests, singing traditional namibian songs. If you leave early for visiting Soussusvlei , they can prepare a packed breakfast to bring with you. We will keep great memories of our stay there!

Very roomy and private

Essentially a very large hut. My wife and I loved the place. As others probably mentioned no internet in the rooms however you are in a very isolated place and are there to see the Namib Desert so the location was amazing. We saw a lone wildebeest practically in the camp which was so cool as it was our first of the trip. The rooms were very clean and kept well. Provided everything we needed with lots of privacy. Would definitely recommend it and would stay again.

This is a mesmerizing camp. Individual private chalet, extremely comfortable with aircon and a well spaced bedroom and bathroom with a shower. Kitchen is on the outside on the verandah, inside a canvas that zips open with a 2 plate stove. There is also a open braai. Utensils can be rented at reception. Sitting outside watching the sunset in these vast open spaces is incomparable to any other accommodation. Staff is very friendly. Thanks to Vally from the bar, Sillas the manager and the pool guy for the great service. One word of advice, as asked on a previous stay. PLEASE provide chalets with it's own broom and mop as it gets extremely sandy on verandah and inside the chalet. Also please follow-up with each and every tourist if they want cleaning services. As we stayed 3 nights we wanted this option and mentioned it to reception, but they forgot. Walking into a dirty chalet at 15h30 wasn't great. There is a bar and swimming pool on premises. Wifi works perfectly at pool/bar area.

Sleep Under the Stars

Reviewed By Poodletoes

This was our first of 3 camps in our first visit to Namibia. The camp included about 10 little cabins with roof top for sleeping and viewing the stars which were plentiful when we were there. I learned how to identify the Southern Cross. All of the Winderness Safari camps I have been in are all very nice and this one was no different. The food is excellent and the guides are all extremely well trained. We saw lots of Oryx and springbok on our game drives. This area is more known for its landscapes than lots of animal sightings. We had excursions to Sossusvlei and the dunes Which we climbed up and down to where we could see the Deadvlei, 900 year old protected dead trees. The dunes are gorgeous when seen in the different light situations - early morning and later in the day. One picture you always see is an Oryx on top of a dune but our guide said that that meant it was going to be really hot. So not something you want to see! We also stopped off for a short walk at Seisrem Canyon where baboons live. One thing I particularly liked was talking with the various camps guides. They were all from different tribes. Our guide at this camp, Matthew, told us all about the customs of his tribe, the Himba. It was all very interesting. Our two days here came to an end all too soon. it was a wonderful experience.
