This vast and splendidly designed museum is alone worth the trip to Şanlıurfa. The collection ranges from the Palaeolithic period until now, and it contains so many exquisite pieces. The fish Lakes named aynzeliha and ibrahim prophet in Urfa ( Al –ruha-Edessa)are located south of the castle in the city center. One of the lakes connected by canals is Aynzeliha, which is closer to the castle, and the other is known as Halilurrahman Lake. these lakes are actually streams, and a closed channel to the East circulates through the city, flooding the gardens to the West and mixing with the Syrian territory. The date when these streams were surrounded and turned into a lake is unknown.during the Byzantine period, in the Great Flood of 525, buildings around balıklı Lake were destroyed and many people died.Byzantine Emperor I, who was very upset by the disaster that befell Urfa, whose name was Edessa at the time When Justinian ascended the throne, he sent many engineers, experts and a large amount of money from Istanbul to Urfa. Engineers and experts, with the help of workers, first built a flood prevention wall that survived to the present day. They then dug a large stream that collected from the streams and directed the flow direction of the incoming water around the city. Swimming competitions and water sports were held on this lake between 1940 and 1970. The place where the lakes are located is the most popular place of the city, where local and foreign tourists who come to the city are necessarily visited. Rizvaniye Mosque and Madrasa are located to the north of halilurrahman Lake, and Halilurrahman Mosque and Madrasa are located in the southwest corner. The fact that the lakes are so popular is the subject of the struggle of the Prophet Abraham with nemrut. Fish in lakes are considered sacred, not caught, not eaten, and not harmed. Legendary stories are told about those who hold and harm fish. It is told how those who catch fish are hit, they are crazy, and how they are blind by jumping into the eyes of the fish while frying in oil. According to historical sources, beliefs about the sanctity of fish lakes begin from ancient times. It was during this period that the lakes and fish were destroyed. He has no relationship with Abraham. Because the reason for the sanctity and respect shown during this period was the Goddess of fertility Atargatis. she's the first mermaid in history. Atargatis was a goddess of fertility and productivity; she was also interested in water faith. According to mythology, Atargatis, a very beautiful girl, loves each other with a shepherd and gives birth to a child. He throws himself overboard because of family and environmental pressure. But the sea does not want to kill the beautiful girl, and the goddess, a mixture of Fish and Human, Is Born. It was forbidden to eat and touch fish because of their faith. But when special occasions came, the priests would eat it as part of their rites. In addition, men were castrated as a thank you for their productivity, which was a blessing given by the goddess. Music was sung, dances were performed. Like other pagans who worshipped the goddess Atargatis, the Urfa built a temple in memory of the goddess near the fish lakes and fed fish that they believed were formed when the goddess washed in the water
