The 6 best hotels in Road Town, Caribbean

August 5, 2022 Milan Banda

The former haunt of pirates, the Dutch and the English and Tortola's main town, Road Town is within reach of secluded beaches and hidden coves. The island displays the same leisurely pace as other British Virgin Islands, with festivals and regattas across the calendar. Helicopter and sea charters and diving are popular activities. On land, the ruins of Fort Burt and the still functioning Callwood Rum Distillery provide fun daytrips. Catch a cab between sights or rent a car to get out of town.

Not as good as presented.

Positive: They let’s us check in a little early. Negative: Staff not very friendly. No working internet or TV. When mentioned to them they say to unplug internet box in room and if that does not work, you’re out of luck. Warning: The jerk chicken wrap in horribly hot and we like hot foods. Wife was unable to take a second bite. Yikes!!! Mentioned this to waitress and she said nothing back. You just don’t get the feeling guests are welcome. We will not be coming back.

Bad service, room had no window, I ate there only twice the last time I ordered a cheese and onion pizza, it took one and a half hours to appear, it was cold boring and I was told by the server the kitchen catered for big tables first, there were two other tables one with 6 and one of 4 then me! Very upset I took it to the room didn't finish it and the advertised daily room cleaning did not exist, the pizza box and remains stayed in my room for 2 days so with no windows the room stunk. Never again!!!!

Room was simple, comfortable and clean but there was a lot of traffic noise at bedtime, through the night and in the morning. Was also waken up by roosters. The AC unit and ceiling fan worked well. If earplugs work for you, bring them. We only stayed one night.

Fort Burt Hotel. AVOID at all costs

This is definitely the WORST hotel we have ever stayed in. Dark entrance bar area, chaotic front desk, damp broken down exterior and depressing dark dining area. Ridiculous price for a ‘superior sea view room’. Broken bulbs, terrifying electrics, filthy tiles, broken bedside lights, floor tiles broken. Incredibly noisy main road in front of room. This old property has nothing whatsoever to recommend it, the building should be condemned and flattened. We would definitely have left after seeing the room but it was a ‘no refund’ booking. The pool half full and covered in leaves too !

Avoid this!

Reviewed By henrika42

Absolutely nothing worked here. Not a thing. And the staff was not even interested about it. We had res. for two people, got all the utilities in room only for one, asked the reception to print papers, they were short of ink. Toom is wearned, no blankets, cold, warm water must wait ages, the restaurant tried to make us pay the bill twice (fortunately we had a receipt). Take any other hotel!
