We needed a hotel to stay at overnight on our way to the Rotterdam ferry and, ostensibly, this looked like a reasonable hotel. On arrival, we were impressed by the fact that it had it's own multistory car park and were also impressed by the speed at which we got booked in. We were given a room on the top floor but they have a lift. The brochure that I picked up said that the hotel was refurbished and extended last year, it did not mention that work is still going on. The lift has had it's lining removed with the result that mounting blocks are jutting out of the lift walls ready to snag your clothes if you are not observant. When we reached our floor, we then found that the light fittings in the corridor had not been finished. Electrical wires were poking out of the ceilings - some with plastic terminals which could easily be pulled off, some with temporary incandescent light-bulbs hanging form them. Obviously a work in progress! The room was clean with a view out over the car-park. The bathroom was a surprise - it took me a while to work out that to flush the toilet it was necessary to kick a button located on the wall close to the bottom of the toilet bowl! I then realised, on looking at the floor plan on the fire instructions, that we had been put in a disabled persons room. What is the sense in putting a disabled persons room on the top floor of a hotel (especially when one is told not to use the lift in a case of fire)? I presume hotels in Germany have to be inspected for safety and the fact that this hotel passed inspection amazes me. We thought that we would take advantage of the restaurant for an evening meal but it turned out that as it was a Saturday night, a wedding reception was being held in the hotel and we were told we would have to eat in the bar which was also being taken over by the wedding guests (the groom thought it was a good idea to park his car in a space clearly marked as access for the fire brigade and no-one asked him to move the car). Added to that, a number of guests brought children in prams which were promptly parked in front of the the lift until pre-reception drinks had been consumed and the party were moved in to the function room. Needless to say, we gave the bar a miss and found a convenient Italian restaurant a short 10 minutes walk away. I can definitely say that we will not visit this hotel again!

Very good hotel with great breakfast

Reviewed By BoBre

This modern and large hotel is situated not far from Herrenberg town centre: there is parking available at no additional cost just outside the entrance. The rooms are spacious and modern, with good-sized bathrooms: the cleanliness level was appropriate everywhere and everyone was wearing masks, with also frequent disinfectant stations available throughout the hotel. Breakfast is served on the ground floor in the restaurant area: there was a big variety of foods, from sweet to salty choices, hot and cold beverages, fruit, vegetables and waffles. Staff is polite and professional. Prices are very affordable. Overall a very good choice for an 'on the road' holiday.

Beautiful views, lovely location

I stayed here recently for one night by myself. First, as a female traveling alone, I had no concerns for my safety here. The owner was very pleasant and spoke English well, which is nice since my German is horrible to non-existent. I booked the Comfort plus room in order to have a view, and it was definitely worth the little bit of extra money. The hotel looks out over the valley, and there is a nature trail right behind it that leads up to even more beautiful views. It is only an 8 minute drive from Ammerbuch and a grocery store. The room was small but more than adequate for my needs. Everything was very clean, and there is an ipad type machine in the room that details everything available at the hotel. The only thing I could not figure out was how to work the tv/cable, but I'm sure if I had asked, someone would have helped. The food in the restaurant was absolutely wonderful. I had the swabian dumplings, which came with a salad. Everything was fresh and delicious, and service was great. Breakfast the next day was also impressive, with a huge variety available (hot eggs/bacon/sausage to order, cold cuts, cheeses, break, yogurt, fruit salad, etc) They did ask at check-in what time I wanted to do breakfast, so it's good to be ready to answer that. I will definitely stay here again if I am coming through town.

The Worst Dining Experience

Reviewed By Christopher M

Terrible waiter, bad/so-so service, decent food. I always say, that if the food is okay, and the service is great, I'll go back and if the service is bad, but the food is great, I'll probably not go back. This was my second experience at this restaurant where I felt that I was not wanted there. This time, we walked in the door, and as last time, we had a reservation. The waiter instructed us to sit where we wanted. We sat, got comfortable, and as the waiter approached, I started to tell him how we were there to use a gift certificate that friends from the USA had given us as a parting gift. This "server" cut me off in mid sentence and complained that he didn't like the table we chose. His demeanor immediately set the stage for an unenjoyable evening. Then, when he brought the meals, and they were good, he made no notice of our empty wine glasses. When he did come back, he did ask us if we wanted more to drink, and we had by then decided we were going to cut our losses and leave as soon as possible. Bottom line - the waiter spoiled the whole evening, and we WON'T be going back.

Room clean and comfortable but a little basic - No issue for me. Breakfast buffet very good. Dinner also good. Superb value. And Yes, i would recommend and return. PS - Herrenberg is beautiful - Think Stratford Upon Avon. Easy access to Stuttgart by local transport / taxis.
