Pitcombe Rock Falconry

Pitcombe Rock Falconry is an amazing falconry centre in the heart of Somerset. We have a wide range of hawks, owls, eagles and falcons (many of which we have rescued) and you'll find that visiting us is truly unlike anything you have ever experienced before. We offer hands on experiences to help fund our rescue work and we are happy to welcome visitors to our centre in return for a small donation. We offer a number of different experiences which are fantastic if you want to treat yourself or a loved one, which include: - Walk with a Hawk (£90, 3-4hrs) - Owl Encounters (£40, 2hrs) - Falconry Experiences (£50-70) - Weddings & Events (£POA) - Young Falconers Club (£70 a term)

Alan brought us a selection of his birds of prey to our Stratton Home & Garden Club meeting and entertained members with his fantastic birds. We were able to hold and stroke each of the birds and witness them in flight. While we watched two of his owls flying he explained how their plumage worked for silent flight and how sounds were directed towards their ears by the feathers around their gorgeous eyes. He told us how the kestrel hovered following a urine trail, and we now know which birds are hunters, and which ones eat carrion, and the reasons why. The largest birds we saw were the buzzard and an European Eagle Owl. To be able to see these birds up close and to touch them was an exceptional experience that we shall not forget.

We had such a lovely day out here at Noah's Ark Zoo Farm. Lots of space, with play area's for little ones to run around and play and not get bored with the same play equipment, my Son loves the Elephant Butt Slide the best! Lovely range of animals, including Rhinos and Bears! The keeper talks are all good, we loved the Meerkat's (as our Son got to throw some food in) and the Big Cats talk the best The keepers are very knowledgeable, and their dedication and love for the animals is clearly shown. The Bird of Prey display was brilliant - I managed to get some good photos! We are definitely going to come in the summer holidays with a picnic and our friends. Thank you Noah's Ark for a lovely day out!

Tropiquaria Zoo

Reviewed By Styalca

The first time I visited Tropiquaria I was five years old and I was delighted to find it still open now at the ripe old age of 23! This is a small zoo run with a deep love and standard of care for its animals. Some say the place looks tired or old but it's based in an interesting listed building and who on earth goes to a zoo to look at the buildings? This zoo features lemurs, emus, wallabys, gibbons, tapirs, Scottish wildcats(!) snakes, tortoises, meerkat, parrots and a host of invertebrates and fish in their aquarium - including two species now extinct in the wild! - plus they have a relatively new nocturnal room with some adorable inhabitants such as sugar gliders and a nocturnal dormouse... there are even some animals I hadn't heard of such as a Serval and a long nosed pooteroo! Plus some of the animals are rescues. Fun for the family includes outdoor and indoor play areas for kids and animal encounters where we held a millipede, an African giant land snail, a royal python and a bearded dragon. I also appreciated how much the keepers knew about the animals in their talks, and how the animals used in the encounters were kept in the back the rest of the day to allow them to remain stress free, but don't worry there are more than enough to see! To conclude this zoo is relatively small and likely won't fill a whole day unless like me you want a good 10-20 minutes with every enclosure, but I think it's worth the entry fee to support this wonderful place with such a commitment to the animals in their care, perhaps inspiring a future generation of animal obsessives like me <3
