We loved it; wonderful accommodation in peaceful surroundings

Reviewed By annj345

We were a party of 5 adults and two very young children (1 and 2 years); the accommodation was lovely; probably beaten only by the surroundings. The children were kept occupied by the small park area and green space. We also took up the suggestion of having our takeout meal from TOOL & GAUGE Cafe - which was great and a real highlight of the break - sitting in the sun to eat it. Great location if you are visiting Longleat, enjoy a bit of a swim in the morning and/or love to sit back and enjoy a wonderful view. I am a wheelchair user; my personal experience was mixed but I had understood that before I went which is credit to the owners 'The Lighthouse is registered for part time wheel chair users because of the lack of easy level access to all our facilities. Sure we can work out a way that suits you though' So letting me know but then offering me help - this sought of honesty is valued. If you are a wheelchair user I hope this helps; I use a manual slim wheelchair; bedroom was good and easy to navigate; bathroom of a good size for turning; good shower space with what felt like a safe/wide fixed shower chair; grab rails around the toilet. Parking can be arranged right behind the accessible room (with rear entrance then to the bedroom). Internally the venue is hard to navigate and I think this is why the access is not fully suited to all wheelchair users - there are a few steps) BUT you can alternatively go outside the building and access the dining area through the rear double doors, but again you have two external steps, I think the Lighthouse would be able to support wheelchair users if they created two sympathetically designed ramps in order to access the dining room from the rear (the cafe next door has achieved this, by doing so they would hugely benefit from not just wheelchair users but their friends and family in feeling they could book with ease. It would also help support the great work the Lighthouse has already done in making the bedroom/bathroom accessible. If they had the ramps in place I would definitely come back along with my extended family - beautiful place, very warm welcome and fab views.

Never disappoints

I wrote a review of this hotel a few years ago. We loved it then and have returned from time to time, the standard of welcome and service never slips. What spawned this new review, we were fortunate enough to be staying on Jubilee Saturday when the hotel offered a Jubilee afternoon tea. What a wonderful experience. Champagne, delicate sandwiches with thoughtful fillings, homemade scones and jam, Jubilee themed cocktail and all crowned with a selection of hand crafted cakes that would not been amiss in the Savoy. A warm ambience was supplied by a truly excellent baritone singer and pianist with nostalgic songs relevant to the occasion. Caroline, the general manager, and her team put on a thoughtful and memorable occasion with their usual high standards of service. All in all an excellent afternoon and stay.

Best service would recommend

Reviewed By alannet

Excellent hotel in ideal location a couple of minutes from the high street. Parking 2 mins away £15 per day. Staff are exemplary in both the hotel and restaurant. They greet everyone with a smile and are very attentive and always courteous which is of exceptional service levels. Hotel decor is fabulous and room was very quirky with a fabulous bathroom. Breakfast was exceptional. Best we have ever experienced with top quality ingredients. Drinks tables are available outside the hotel. Hotel is spotless and there are hand sanitiser stations. The only fault was the high temperature in our room which could have been because it was on the top floor. The window only opened a little way and the air con wasn’t great and wouldn’t drop below 18. Perhaps provide summer duvets and allow air con to be set lower and then this hotel would be faultless.

Minimoon 3 night stay copper bath

We stayed for three nights and had an excellent stay. Ash, Matthew, Archie and team were highly professional, caring and informative....nothing was too much trouble. The room was very impressive with cooper bath and shower plus mod cons. We had an almost Abbey view which was beautiful. The rear garden where we had cream teas was great too. The best thing about our stay (apart from being together! ?) was the food which was of an extremely high standard and quality. Put simply, the food is divine, indulgent and very moreish. Ash advised us that we could run the Bath Skyline, which we did to burn off calories! This is an excellent hotel, with highly professional staff and amazing food, not to mention the beautiful artwork. We would thoroughly recommend staying at The Bird.

A very bad experience

Reviewed By nias398

The hotel is badly insulated and noise travels from other rooms. I had particular loud neighbours who partied through the night and the night receptionist was unable to quieten them. The reception was also unmanned for part of the night so I was unable to speak to anyone when the noise continued. The service at breakfast was unacceptably slow. Since my stay I have found the GM of the hotel to be unresponsive, unsympathetic and unhelpful, which explains why the rest of the staff didn’t seem to care about our experience while we were there.

Fantastic hotel

Reviewed By davidsP1878YT

We really enjoyed our stay at Harrington's Hotel, and we can highly recommend it. Our only regret was be unable to stay for more than one day. We loved the location on a small old town street. It was great for walking around the city, and right across from a very nice pub. The rooms are charming and well adapted from the original old buildings. The cooked to order breakfast was delicious. Most of all, the staff was very friendly and amazingly helpful. Our transportation from Bath was in late afternoon and they were very gracious about our hanging around the common rooms after checking out. When we inadvertently left behind a small sentimental object, they located it and posted it to our next destination hotel! We really can't recommend Harrington's enough!

My new favourite hotel

Reviewed By L2216PBkatep

I was on my first solo holiday after losing my husband and was a bit nervous about staying in a hotel on my own but the Royal Hotel staff are so friendly they make you feel instantly at home. The hotel is really comfortable and I was impressed with the room. It was large, bright, clean and had an amazingly comfy bed. The filter coffee maker in the room was a nice extra touch too. I recommend the bar meals if you're eating alone, although there is a Brasserie onsite for more formal dining and the food was great. The location is perfect - and easy five minute walk from the Abbey and the river and just across from the station, so that if you're visit by train you can drop your bag off before check-in and also leave it there after check out while you go exploring. I would definitely go back.

Our family had a Jubilee Bank Holiday afternoon tea at The Francis Hotel, Bath. The food was amazing, beautifully laid out and the service was first class; the epitome of a 4 star plus hotel. Christie and Dominic were attentive, polite and friendly. The welcome from all staff was amazing and they were very kind, and considerate especially helpful to one member of the family being disabled - nothing was too much trouble. The sandwiches were fresh and delicious and the cakes were unique and absolutely scrumptious. There was so much food that we had to take some home. Compliments to the staff, Chefs and The Francis Hotel. The location is central to all that Bath offers.
