The 5 Best Sights & Landmarks in Saas-Fee, Swiss Alps

October 4, 2021 Matilde Konrad

Snow sports rule in Saas-Fee. Thanks to its proximity to the glaciers of the Pennine Alps, it’s a winter wonderland year-round, perfect for skiing, snowboarding, sledding, skating and snuggling up for a romantic après ski. The village is car-free, so be sure to save some of that slope energy for your post-ski strolls.

Bergbhnen Hohsaas

Reviewed By myfernwehfamily - Indianapolis, United States

The views from Hohsaas and Kreuzboden were some of the best during our time in Saas-Fee! Highlights: While my wife and I enjoyed the beautiful mountain scenery, the children enjoyed the gondola most of all! Once at Hohsaas, the boys enjoyed a "high-altitude" snowball fight, as even in the summer, there was still snow! Our biggest surprise, was finding an alpine bee! It gently landed on my wife's hand and everyone had a good look. Our favorite spot was Kreuzboden (on the way up / down to Hohsaas). Here there was a big playground for the children, and even a peddle powered go-kart. The boys were in heaven! In my opinion, Kreuzboden had some of the best views in the entire valley! Tips: In Kreuzboden, venture out beyond the gondola station / restaurant for the truly awe inspiring views. The small alpine lake was just past the animal farm near the playground. Despite our initial fears, our three and one year old had no problem with the altitude at Hohsaas!

Saaser Museum

Very dense and diversified collection of old times daily life objects, artefacts and b&w pictures of the Saas valley area, not back in times that much actually. Impressive to realize how fast lifestyle changed. Our family of four found the old house and all what there is to discover interesting. Took us 1h to visit, all exhibits have short comments in 3 languages: English, Français, Deutsch. One can easily tease kids interest with “guess what that was made for” live quizzes. A good break to skiing for once.

Ice Pavilion

We decided to ride all the way up to the Eispavillion on a day when the visibility on the mountain was awful. While the sculptures were interesting, just the idea of being inside of this cave system inside of a glacier was what made it worthwhile. I liked the larger room with the "blue lighting" and the look of all the crystals on the ceiling. Also seemed to be the only one in our party who wanted to try the avalanche simulation... it is a little intimidating. Yes, the music is kind of annoying... kind of like a spa and my kids weren't too fond but they got over it as they went through the cave. Steps back up are a bit of a chore due to the altitude. Worth doing once.
