Isle of Purbeck Golf Club

A visit here is a must for all golfers; the beginner is catered for on the 9 hole Dene course and the Purbeck Championship course proves an exciting test for even the most accomplished golfer. The Club dates back to 1892 and among the past owners who were responsible for the extension to 27 holes were Enid Blyton, the legendary writer of children's books and her husband Dr Darrell-Waters. The courses are built on heathland and are set within a nature reserve where many rare plants can be seen as well as rare birds. The restaurant has a well deserved reputation for excellent fare and very good value. Do not forget to visit our outstanding Restaurant, bar food available in the lounge area, fine dining in our restaurant with views of Poole harbour and the Jurassic coast.

Isle of Purbeck is a magnificent golf course. The views are spectacular and the holes dramatic, bold, and subtle. The wide fairways and many of the greens are steeply sloped and the winds are strong, so this is a real test of ball striking and imagination. There is room to play and to swing freely, but no room for complacency: the wind and ground make every hole strategic. If you’re new to the course, a course planner will save frustration and probably several golf balls, as there are many deceptive and blind shots. Once you know they are there, or know the lines, these add fun and drama and imagination to the game. If you want your course to be a manicured suburban garden, you’ll grumble about the greens and fairways. But this is golf as the great golden age architects imagined it, offering challenges and pleasures for players of all abilities.

swanage golf games

Set in 16 acres Kirkwood Park is an 18 hole fun golf games activity centre suitable for all ages and abilities, which includes pitch and putt, footgolf and frisbee golf. Everything is provided in the affordable green fee and there are no fussy rules. From the end of July and through most of August the site also becomes a 'rural feeling' little gem of a Swanage town centre campsite that can be booked through

Andy opens the site up as campsite from about the 24th July til the end of August every year. Hopefully he will continue to do so as I really enjoy staying there and it is the best campsite I have stayed at so far. There are so many positives to the site such as: Only about ten minutes walk from the beach and town centre. Next door to a large park, playground, and skate park for kids to use. Can book in advance and set up tent where you like. Cars are not parked next to tents but are very close by. Wheelbarrows free to use to transport tents etc. Free use of fridge, freezer, pump for inflatable beds etc. Allowed to have barbeques or small fires to toast marshmallows etc. Encouraged to not make noise between 11pm & 8am. Toilets, showers, and the site in general are always clean & tidy. Recycling policy with bins for metals, glass, paper etc. Given a toilet roll and recycling bucket when you arrive. The hot water in the taps and showers is always very hot so I would suggest the number 6 setting on the showers is plenty hot enough. I especially like all the signs around the site and the firefly lights at night on one of the bridges. Andy has started doing some 'glamping' on the site but there is still plenty of space for the rest of us. :) Don't tell too many people how nice the site is though in case I can't get a booking. ;)
