Great location

Reviewed By CarolHerts

We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights. Great location, easy walk into Swanage. The staff are all fantastic and are very polite and helpful. The food was very good. Breakfast especially nice. Looking over the views. The hotel itself needs a bit of tlc and some more staff. There just were not enough staff to be able to cover the number of guests. Rooms not serviced which I personally think it no longer acceptable and long wait before someone appeared at the bar. On Saturday there was a wedding. Lovely occasion for the wedding guests but not hotel guests. We were told prior to arriving we could not eat in the restaurant which was ok, but we could not use the garden nor the bar in the evening. Having paid £200 for the night I don’t think this was ok.

A few days away to unwind

Reviewed By 137nigel1965

Just returned from a 3 night stay here having gone back to visit Swanage where we spent many great holidays as a child. The hotel is at the other end of town towards Studland, away from the town centre and only about a 15 minute stroll into the hustle & Bustle which was perfect for us, we had my 92 year old dad with us and he managed the walk every day with no issues at all. The hotel is clean and comfortable with wonderful staff, sadly they do not wear name badges so I don’t know their names, but the man and Lady who ran the bar shifts ( the lady also waters the many plants in the garden!) were memorable to us as being particularly pleasant and chatty, but all staff we encountered are a credit to the hotel. We did eat in the restaurant both at Breakfast and for dinner, the food is excellent although dinner choices were limited in my opinion, so we only had one evening meal in the hotel ( food seems to be a bit of an issue in many places right now, so hopefully as things improve more options will become available) the main areas of the hotel are spacious and relaxing, the bar area also looks out to the sea at the rear with a nice garden and seating, the only thing I noted there was that occupants with dogs took them out to the garden to go to the toilet, so look out if you are wandering around bare footed or if young children are rolling around on the grass, even if all owners that I saw did use poo bags thankfully! The rooms that we occupied were clean and comfortable but you do get some noise from other rooms sadly as this is an older building with creaky floorboards and thin walls! We also had a hot tap that only worked when it wanted to in the sink and both our bathroom windows were hard to open and close. I really wanted to give a five star rating as we had a fantastic stay, but there are a few maintenance issues as noted, which are more annoying than anything else and the noise from other rooms, particularly above us, was also annoying. We would definitely stay here again if we return to Swanage, which I hope we will as it’s location is second to none.

Overpriced but great location

Reviewed By 908garyp

We came to the hotel originally for a family event, the main building and grounds are beautiful. I can see why so many people get married here however to pay over £100 just for a room I do expect some level of comfort. We stayed in the lousier lodge to the rear of the hotel, this looks to have been an add on to the hotel over the years. Prior to going into our room we was outside of the lodge and family and friends and they were commenting on how the lodge would be the updated version of the grounds. They were correct, an updated version of a 1970’s hotel. The lodge is old and dated, hideous curtains, carpets and the shower pressure nearly put me in hospital when I was washing the meat and veg… They do have a flat screen 32” Tv however this looks out of place as it’s too much in the future, perhaps a VHS player and black and white tv with 4 channels would suit better. That put aside the rooms are clean, basic and workable. The hotel is in a great location to the beach, town, restaurants and bars. My only reason for the low score is due to paying £150 for a room. Our friends payed and addition £5 for there room and they got a balcony, sea view and room within the main building so everything within the room was within the period of the original build so nothing looked out of place… These rooms were not available at the time of our booking if they are when you book, just do it! The money we paid for the lodge was £5 less than the main hotel, we have no grand staircases, artwork or channellers, we have tacky old add on’s that just don’t work with the buildings or grounds. So much potential for hotel, I’m sure 30 years ago this place was a real gem within Swanage however this place has not moved with the time no updates have been made but they are still costing rooms as if they were.

Olivers

A beautiful traditional stone built building in the heart of Corfe Castle, giving the convenience of a hotel and the friendliness of a B&B. We are a stone's throw from the castle, set in a quiet street, a short walk from Corfe common.

Just returned from a two-night stay at Oliver’s, and we couldn’t have asked for a better stay, or a better location in County Dorset. The room was clean, spacious, and the bathroom had a great shower. We enjoyed the complementary breakfast at the Pink Goat (downstairs) and really appreciated how friendly and accommodating the owners were during our stay. In addition to Corfe Castle, the town had lots of walking paths, small shops and great restaurants. If you’re looking for good dinner options, be sure to try the Fox Inn (2-minute walk) as well as the New Inn (5-minute drive) from the hotel. Finally, it’s also important to note Oliver’s is within reasonable driving distance to lots of Jurassic Coast attractions, including Durdle Door, Old Harry Rocks, etc. If you’re headed to Dorset, definitely look no further than Oliver’s!
