Holwell Bungalow

Holwell Bungalow, despite it's name is not a bungalow but a eco design house made from local granite set at the foot of Haytor in the beautiful Becka Brook Valley. Unforgettable panoramic views across one of the most stunning parts of the Dartmoor National Park. Less than 2 miles from Widecombe in the Moor village. You can be sure of a warm welcome, comfortable well decorated rooms with larger than average en-suites. A delicious breakfast prepared from local produce will set you up for the day. An ideal place for a relaxing long weekend whether you are walking, cycling or exploring the area.

Great B&B for quiet wide open space get away.

Chosen initially for location, we loved our stay here. The room was spacious, looked lovely and was really comfortable. Plus the views were great. The breakfast was generous and tasty, with quite a few options to chose from and cooked to order! Our hosts were very welcoming and helpful, with great local knowledge both in terms of places to eat and nearby walks. Would definitely recommend and make a return visit if ever back in the area.

Lower Blackaton

Lower Blackaton is a south facing 17th century granite longhouse set in informal grounds with magnificent views of some of Britain's wildest moorland. It has been refurbished to combine tradition with modern comfort. It has oil fired central heating, two living rooms with wood burning stoves, kitchen with Aga, microwave, fridge, freezer, WM and TD, 5 bedrooms, bathroom, two shower rooms, four toilets, TV, DVD, VHS, CD, radio, broadband, telephone for guests and an extensive library. Outside, there is a walled garden in a listed ruin, an acre of natural and grassed grounds (with swing, trampoline, open fronted BBQ barn), and ample off-road parking. Lower Blackaton is an ideal centre for gatherings of family or friends. It is a perfect base for people who enjoy walking, rambling and bird watching or simply appreciate the peace and quiet of Dartmoor, one of the most beautiful national parks in Britain. A beautiful restored barn can be rented with the house as a perfect venue for workshops, retreats, sit down or informal parties or just as an indoor play area with table tennis. There is instant access onto the moor, with stone age, bronze age and medieval ruins, spectacular tors, rivers and woodland all in easy walking distance. The village of Widecombe in the Moor is 3 miles away with cafés, pubs, church, village green and gift shops. Ashburton and Bovey Tracey are 7 miles, Tavistock and Newton Abbot (nearest train station) 14 miles, Plymouth and exeter 25 mies.

Trip Down Memory Lane

For many many years a group of us have been recreating the "Arduous Training" we undertook as army cadets whilst at school. Always Dartmoor, always around May but not the yomping we used to do, more an amble between the fantastic pubs. We have camped, stayed in B&Bs, hotels and rented cottages. Lower Blackaton is right up there with the best. Great location near Widecombe and the walking around Hambledon Beacon. Authentic Dartmoor granite farmhouse with ample bedrooms and lovely sitting room and kitchen. Really well equipped and serviced with nice touches such as washing up liquid, salt, pepper, shampoo, internet etc., everything you need for a great stay without needing to run to the shops - not easy on Dartmoor - for something you've forgotten and is not provided. All topped off by a friendly welcome from our host, Judy. I can't recommend it enough, especially if you want to escape modern life and remind yourself of how good life used to be in simpler times, and get some real fresh air thrown in for free.

Manor Cottage

Small, homey B&B

Reviewed By elmcityjohn

The cottage is near the center of the village so the location is convenient. I think she only rents out the one room. In effect you have your own wing of the house. It's one floor up via a circular staircase where there is a bedroom and then toilet and shower room on the other side of the stairs. As a result, although it is not en suite it still feels fairly private. It was a pleasant place to stay. There is a very large lawn and garden behind the house.

Sheena Tower

Superb location. Great hospitality.

Reviewed By Michael C

We hadn't used Sheena Tower for 25 years as the kids made self catering easier. On spec we went for 2 nights and ended up staying for 5. Not for you if you want huge rooms and power showers. Yes for you if you want to be 1000 feet up, in tranquil surroundings and to be looked after by Jean and Tony, who are friendly, helpful and hospitable. Oh, and the breakfast room is on stilts looking out over Wudecombe in the moor! Views to die for! Will we return? Oh yes!
